Biochemistry and Molecular Biology This undergraduate program provides a strong background in physical and biological sciences for students who wish to pursue advanced degrees in biochemistry, molecular biology, and related life sciences. Currently, there are approximately 200 biochemistry majors. The department is housed in a modern building with state-of-the-art laboratories and instrumentation. (970) 491-5566 Biology Colorado State is the only university in Colorado that offers curricula for majors in botany and zoology in addition to biological science. Research activity in the department is oriented toward ecology, behavior, evolution, and cell and molecular biology with emphasis in both plant and animal molecular biology. The biological science major enrolls the largest number of students of any major on campus. (970) 491-7011 Hughes Center for Life Sciences Chemistry The Department of Chemistry has received national recognition as a Department of Excellence. Chemistry majors may achieve their career goals by pursuing one of two courses of study. A program approved by the American Chemical Society is recommended for a career as a professional chemist. Students seeking a professional school or secondary teaching career follow a program with a strong chemistry background, but less advanced course-work. (970) 491-5391 Computer Science The Department of Computer Science, priding itself on up-to-date curriculum and state-of-the-art equipment, fully prepares students to become computing specialists in a quickly changing field. The department maintains close ties with industry and through donations, now maintains a software engineering laboratory, an architectural laboratory, artificial intelligence laboratory, and a distributed computing laboratory.
