A handful of people spoke at the public hearing at the Topeka Public Schools Administrative Center. Submitted by a planning committee composed primarily of school district staff, the main change to the current alternative high school would be the governance structure. Feedback Charter School Facility Assembly Bill (AB) 14 creates a pilot program that allocates $100,000,000 in Proposition 47 funding for the new construction of facilities for charter schools. This program allows charter schools for the first time to access State facility funding directly or through the school district where the charter school is physically located and to acquire a preliminary apportionment. Application Filing Period The Office of Public School Construction (OPSC) will begin accepting applications in the middle of February through March 31, 2003. To apply for the funding an applicant will submit to the OPSC the Application for Charter School Preliminary Apportionment, Form SAB 50-09 and the Charter School Facilities Program Application, Form CSFA 03-01 with two copies of all financial documents. Are you eligible? In order to apply for funding the school district where the charter school is physically located must have new construction eligibility. The OPSC's Web site can provide information on school district's remaining new construction eligibility. In addition, the pupils served by the charter school are provided instruction at the school site for at least 80 percent of the time. Therefore; independent study, home study, distance, Internetbased charters schools are not eligible to apply for funding.
