In Cold Blood is a narrative game set in an action environment which takes place in the mind of our hero, John Cord. In this era of 3D characters, the 2D animated characters in ICB have a welcome retro feel, reminding me, of course, of your Broken Sword games. 0. Intended Use Cecil is an object-oriented language intended for both exploratory and production programming.
1. Basic Concepts Cecil is based on a pure object model. All data are objects, and objects are manipulated soley by passing messages. Cecil uses a classless (prototype-based) object model, in which (conceptually) self-sufficient objects implement data abstractions, and objects inherit directly from other objects (delegation) to share code. Cecil also supports a general form of dynamic binding based on multiple dispatching. Cecil attempts to combine multi-methods with traditional object-oriented language concepts, such as encapsulation and static type checking.
2. Objects
2.1 operations
Cecil supports a generalized object model, in which objects can be made to behave like those in a classical object model if desired. See entry under 2.5 methods
2.2 requests
2.3 messages
All computation in Cecil is accomplished by sending messages to objects. Method lookup in response to a message is constrained by argument specializers defined for the methods (see 2.5 methods

Fred Brown chuckled into his beer. He was enjoying his usual Friday-night pint of Fruggles at the Feathers with his pal Bill Bloggs, and Bill was something of a raconteur. Bill's eldest daughter, Anne, now a very attractive young lady of 15, had acquired her first boy friend. Puzzlet 49 Solution 49 for details] Fred agreed that this was correct, and Bill went on to mention a new puzzle he had for them. He'd noticed that the two consecutive numbers 375 and 376 had interesting behaviour when cubed:
As you can see, the cube of each number contains the number itself as its last three digits. Bill wanted to know if there were other pairs of consecutive 3digit integers like this. That is, the cube of each contains the integer itself as its last three digits. I can give you one small clue: there's at least one other 3-digit doublet that meets the requirement. Can you find it before reading the answer in Solution 50 Dave Ellis

March 1990 (Vol. 16, No. 3) p p. 268-280 Cecil: A Sequencing Constraint Language for Automatic Static Analysis Generation K.M.  Olender, L.J.  Osterweil A flexible and general mechanism for specifying problems relating to the sequencing of events and mechanically translating them into dataflow analysis algorithms capable of solving those problems is presented. Dataflow analysis has been used for quite some time in compiler code optimization. Most static analyzers have been custom-built to search for fixed and often quite limited classes of dataflow conditions. It is shown that the range of sequences for which it is interesting and worthwhile to search in actually quite broad and diverse. A formalism for specifying this diversity of conditions is created. It is shown that these conditions can be modeled essentially as dataflow analysis problems for which effective solutions are known. It is also shown how these solutions can be exploited to serve as the basis for mechanical creation of analyzers for these conditions. Programming Language
A topic for programming languages, a term for computational language s that are at least as expressive as the lambda calculus Actually, a proper definition would require Turing-machine equivalence, but lambda calculus suffices for non-interacting machines and computations that should halt (but what good are those?) . However, not all languages listed here, like C, are sufficiently expressive, but a good enough approximation in practice, once supplemented with proper libraries. Abstract
This paper explores the difference between flexibility of design and flexibility of construction, and how this affects programming and programming languages. Including the right amount of flexibility in the design of a program is a delicate task best suited to humans. The flexibility of construction, on the other hand, is defined by the programming language that is used. We define what a programming language should offer in support of flexibility of construction and explore the advantages of having this flexibility of code. We conclude with a short taste of TOM, an object-oriented programming language that has been developed to provide flexibility of code.
    Introduction
According to Merriam Webster 's on-line dictionary, flexibility is the noun corresponding to the adjective flexible
  • capable of being flexed: PLIANT
  • yielding to influence: TRACTABLE
  • In the context of programming, program design, or design in general, a design exhibits some flexibility if it can adapt to new, different, or changing requirements. Eliminating the term

The University of Washington Cecil group focuses primarily on constructing practical programming systems (languages, implementations, and environments) that will make large applications and systems programs easier to write and extend. The effectiveness of a programming system is determined in large part by the extent to which:
    • The programming language's features are available in an orthogonal, unrestricted form, The language is implemented efficiently enough to encourage programmers to use the important features, and The language and its intended programming style are supported by a programming environment.
Our work integrates language design, language implementation, and programming environment research. We believe that the synergy of the combined research program leads to more rapid progress and better final results in each individual area. Moreover, we aim to develop usable artifacts incorporating the research results, both to better evaluate the effectiveness of the research results and to use as a foundation for future research. (Redirected from Self computer language Self is an object oriented programming language based on the concept of prototypes . It was used primarily as an experimental test system for language design in the 1990s, and is no longer being actively worked on.
    History
Self was designed primarily by David Ungar and Randal Smith in while working at Xerox PARC . They moved to Stanford University and continued work on the language, building the first working compiler in . At that point focus changed to attempting to bring up an entire system for Self, as opposed to just the language. The first public release was in , and the next year the team moved to Sun Microsystems where they continued work on the language. Several new releases followed until falling largely dormant in 1995 with the 4.0 version. The latest 4.1 version was released in
