B Systems Agriculture Recommended studies: One or more of Agriculture, Business Studies, Economics, Geography, Society and Culture, any two units of mathematics, two units of science and any two units of English. Major studies: Agribusiness and marketing, agricultural education, agriculture, agronomy, animal production, farm management and property planning, irrigation, regional/community development, rural environmental management, soil conservation and land management, total catchment management. Industrial experience: Eight weeks in first semester of second year. Honours: Available as an additional year to meritorious students. Career opportunities: Examples include agricultural consultant or adviser, agricultural education and secondary teaching (with a further teaching qualification), land care or total catchment management facilitator, park ranger, agronomist, livestock officer, agricultural marketing and sales, export trade, rural enterprise managers (farms or agribusiness), rural organisation executive, commodity trading, rural development officer, project management in overseas aid projects, rural financial counselling. Additional information: The professional development of individual students is an important feature of this program. Many learning activities are project-based and there is regular contact with industry throughout the course. One third of the course is composed of electives which may be chosen from across all colleges enabling you to direct your studies to a broad range of careers. This degree plus a further teaching qualification, available at UWS Penrith campus, is appropriate for a teaching career. With appropriate selection of subjects students may choose to major in Agribusiness or Rural Development. Credit towards the degree will be given for prior industrial experience in similar or related fields. | |
