The Acton based health food distributor, Purity Products, released this on the Canada Newswire service on April 13, 2000. They mentioned a study in Pavia, Italy. And, by the way, what in the world is cellulite?

Odds and Ends Nitroglycerin and ANGINA Nitroglycerin breaks down into nitric oxide which helps relax blood vessels to improve blood flow. However, to accomplish this it robs the enzyme aldehyde dehydrogenase from the mitochondria. This can cause premature aging, impaired healing, and all kinds of additional health problems. According to Dr. David Williams of Alternataives , studies indicate that long term use of nitroglycerin is bad for the heart and cardiovascular system. He reports that the amino acid arginine safely does the same thing but most doctors would never recommend an amino acid over a prescription. [Alternatives Vol 5, #17]

but stove oil won. Editor At 30 cents a litre (canadian) its alsocheap! Dianne Best (dbest@hydro.mb.ca). Removing Frozen Bolts
http://www.oldengine.org/unfaq/oddbits.htm
Here are few items of general interest that have cropped up over time.
Using Modern Gas Tank Senders with Early Guages " Chevrolet (and GMC) used 0-30 ohm gastank sending units until 1965 (1966 for trucks). After that time, they went to the current 0-90 ohm style sending unit. To use the newer style sending unit (say, after a gastank swap or upgrade) you need a 1 watt (minimum) 47 ohm resistor connected in parallel on the sending unit. This is done by soldering the resistor between the terminal post where the sending unit wire connects and the metal base of the sending unit. This effectively lowers the resistance to the needed 0-30 ohm for the early gauges". Mike Peterman (mike@brotherstruck.com)
Unusuall circumstance, same tip from two different continents within weeks of each other.
Blind Hole Bearing Race Removal
"To remove a bearing race or seal from a blind hole, fill the hole with grease and use an object the same diameter as the ID of the race in the hole. Pressing this into the grease will force the race out. Often a hand arbor press will work, or you can hammer it (not recommended if planning to reuse the race or seal)". Mike Peterman (mike@brotherstruck.com)
"To remove a bearing race from a 'blind hole' ie one that has no provision to punch the race out from the back side, just pack the cavity with stiff grease, select a plain drift that is a slip fit within the ID of the inner ring, and whack gently with a hammer. The grease will 'hydraulic' out the bearing from the housing. The stiffer the grease, the less accurate the fit of the drift need be. (Care needed on very thin alloy sections - possibility of punching out the back of the blind hole...) Peter Scales (peter@sleepy.demon.co.uk)

http://www.harrythetrout.co.uk/colin.htm
The more or less compulsory bit all about ME!
Well, who are you? I hear you all ask.
Well, My name is Colin Birch. I was born on March 2nd 1962 (which means I'm ancient!) in the town of PONTYPRIDD in Mid Glamorgan (now Rhondda Cynon Taff!) in South Wales , UK. For all of you people (mainly Americans!) who think that Wales is just a town in Alaska I've got some bad news for you - Wales is actually a country! If you want to know where it is look at a map or Great Britain (or to Americans, look at a map of what you call England). The bit jutting out on the left hand side about half way up is Wales . The bit at the top is Scotland and the rest is England.
If you are an American and know where Wales is please don't feel insulted by the above but I have found that most Americans I talk to have never heard of Great Britain, UK or Wales but they seem to know where England is. Okay, I know all you women out there have one question to ask. Am I married?
I'm sorry to have to disapoint you all as I'm afraid I am married. I've been married since 1996 (at least I think it was 1996!) to Jayne. We got married while on holiday in Scotland in a town called Ullapool (North West Scotland). Kids?

Semi-Rough: A North Country Journal

CHAPTER 7
ODD Tales from the North Country Files This is a potpourri of stories from camp, about events that I remember fondly. Most involve people [often us] behaving strangely. THE CREATURE IN THE WOODS
We can go for a month or more without a visitor to our camp, but we often hear "noises" in the distance. We don't always find out what they are. Sometimes when we do find out, the results are definitely unexpected.
Thursday 21 September 1995 THE SHOOTIST
There was a period of time when, every night at almost exactly the same time, we would hear one very distant gunshot. Was Becky correct?
30 July 1994 Our "2115 shooter" was right on schedule - actually 2117, and he fired two shots instead of one. We haven't heard him/her in quite awhile. Becky says that some people shoot regularly, so people [i.e., game wardens] get used to it and don't react when they are really shooting AT something. CULTURE SHOCK
This was a little bit of silliness, made sillier when one remembers that the principal ethnic groups in the North Country are French-Canadian and Norwegian. Friday 5 May 1995 We heard on the radio that the "Taste of China Restaurant" in Gorham is having a Cinco de Mayo night - Mexican drinks, Corona beer, and attendees invited to wear Mexican clothes to win prizes. Only in the North Country!

Odds and Ends
Painting
Odds and Ends , by Emily Carr
"I think that one's art is a growth inside one. I do not think one can explain growth. It is silent and subtle. One does not keep digging up a plant to see how it grows." (Carr, Hundreds and Thousands, p. 268) Emily Carr always celebrated her independence and difference from the world around her. This is apparent in all facets of her life, her art and her writing. Dressed in her usual attire, with a net cap covering her hair and wearing a loose-fitting smock, her lifestyle and appearance gained her the reputation of a lonely and struggling artist. Carr changed the way Canadians view the rugged grandness of the forest landscapes of the British Columbia coast. Although her art was not fully esteemed in Canada until her later years, it remains a classic example of the splendor and distinctiveness of Canadian art. Born in 1871, in Victoria, British Columbia, to British parents, Emily was the eighth of nine children. Her parents died when she was young, leaving her strict, oldest sister Edith to care for the family. Emily, who began drawing lessons at the age of eight, asked her financial guardian for permission and monetary support to attend art school in San Francisco, at the California School of Design. She stayed in San Francisco for three years. She also studied in London and the English countryside, for five years, under many different teachers. Then, after a brief period of teaching children and the Ladies Art Club classes in Vancouver, she travelled to France to study under Harry Gibb and Douglas Ferguson.

ODDS AND ENDS In the process of rolling up and shaping our Softlite ionomer foam products, we have a predictable supply of end cuts, cut-offs, or drops of various sizes and colors and shapes. We also occasionally have production over-runs As shown above our by-products typically take two forms: end cuts from cylinders-predominantly buoys and large fenders-shown above left and back cuts from fender railings such as we make for the USCG and Canadian CG 47 foot motor lifeboats or the Boston Whaler Impact series (see Fendering page for illustrations). The former can be an inexpensive source of buoyancy or they make good back stops for archery targets; the latter pieces make excellent dock fendering. The majority of the end-cuts vary from two to four feet (2' - 4') in diameter and two to four (2" - 4") inches thick with a one-and-a-half inch to four inch (1.5" - 4") hole in the center. One side will be flat from the cut and the other uneven from the roll-up. We sell these pieces in available sizes and colors for $0.50 a pound of buoyancy. The back-cut pieces we regularly have are Type M and Type W. Type M pieces (shown above center) are 3" thick and 7" tall in eight pound per cubic foot density black only, 53" long. Type W pieces are 2" thick hollow cylinder sections, 6" stand off by 15" tall in five pound per cubic foot density, gray and some other colors on occasion, 53" long.

CAN YOU HELP?
From Peter Palmer, 127 Haslemere Road, Portsmouth Hants, P04 9AN England. I was the M/U gunner on 35 RAF Squadron, shot down on 17/18 August 1943 and ended up in Stalag lVb at Muhlberg en Elbe, Germany. Following our release by the Russians, I found a camera in a deserted cottage in a nearby village. The camera had a partly used film inside and I used the remainder for various shots inside the Stalag. The photo (above) was of three Aussies who were in the same hut as I but whose names I have forgotten. I have kept the photo all these years in the hope that one day I might be able to pass it on to one of the trio. One of the Aussies offered me fifty cigarettes as a swap for the camera, which I was glad to accept!
I know it is a very remote chance, but it would be a very nice ending. From James Affleck, Minjah, Warrnambool 3281. Ph: (03) 5569 1553. I am trying to obtain photographs of the following
