The Gross Domestic Product is the final value of all goods and services produced in an economy in a given year. GDP takes all factors of the economy into account and is thus a key indicator of the Canadian economy. GDP may be calculated in terms of earnings (all revenues earned within the borders) or based on expenditures (all expenditures made within the borders) for the four following economic agents: households, businesses, governments and the external sector. Although the dollar's purchasing power or value may rise or fall over time, the appearance of such fluctuations may be eliminated by determining constant (real) dollar value.
