Atlas of Breeding Birds - Methodology Recording Form Examples Breeding Codes There are 3 aims to this survey, each requiring slightly different methodologies.: Aim Details To record the species in the Tetrad
(Example - Form 1) When 1st April to 30th June How record the species seen using the habitat *. No count is required unless it is believed that the species represents a significant total # in the Tetrad Time no time limit To prove breeding
(Example - Form 1) When At any time How Observe Bird behaviour and record evidence of breeding , based on table provided Time no time limit To estimate the population of each species
(Example - Form 2) When 1st April to 30th June How Counts of species seen : total of 2 hours visit only, either in one go or split into two 1hr visits * Time start not later than 4 hours after dawn All the collected information is entered onto a standard Form. Examples of data entry, depending on approach used, are shown in the following pages. Using the habitat: If the bird is not flying it is using the habitat.

Monitoring of Austrian Breeding Birds ". In Robb: Biology . Oct. 21, 2001. In central Europe and therefore also in Austria the population of many bird species has greatly decreased in the past decades; some species which were once widely distributed have either disappeared as breeding birds in the last 20 years in Austria (e.g. Woodchat Shrike Lanius senator ), or they have been reduced to hardly survivable relict populations (e.g. Common Barn Owl Tyto alba , Blue Roller Coracias garrulus , Lesser Gray Shrike Lanius minor und Ortolan Bunting Emberiza hortulana These negative developments of especially sensitive species clearly reflects the continuously deteriorating environmental situation of our cultivated landscape. Less known, however, is that partly even bird species that are yet omnipresent and considered by many to be common have drastically decreased in population, as several investigations in the past years have shown. In England for example the Eurasian Tree Sparrow Passer montanus has fallen off up to 90 % in some areas in the last 20 years. Much the same can be said for the Eurasian Skylark

BREEDING BIRDS Click on any of the photographs below to see a larger version. Many of the aquatic birds, especially in the heron/egret order (Ciconiiformes) undergo startling color changes as breeding season approaches. There are rookeries of many species around the edges of the flow-way, and some great blue herons were on nests as early as January. Others begin later. But in most species, breeding is not only accompanied by changes in plumage, but by the development of often brilliant colors on exposed areas of skin, especially on the legs and around the eyes and bill. This is a cattle egret in breeding plumage. The buffy feathers on the head, chest and back are only present in the spring, and the bright violet skin around the eyes and base of the bill is a striking change. Below are two shots of another common bird, the anhinga. On the left is a typical looking bird in a typical looking posture. On the right is a female in breeding plumage - the bright blue-green around her eyes is only present for a fairly brief period, but is amazing when seen well. White ibis are spectacular in all seasons, but as breeding season nears the reds of their beak, the hues of their head and feet become incredibly vivid and saturated. The birds below were shot as they jousted for position on what was obviously a preferred perch.

2002. " Robb: Live Images of Breeding Birds in Linz, Austria ". In Robb: Biology . Jul. 20, 2002. In 1998 and 1999 the Biological Station of the City of Linz had a WebCam depicting different species of breeding birds in the capital city of the Austrian province of Upper Austria. The Jackdaw project, which ran in 1999, can be viewed here . There were two live video cameras in addition to the WebCam. The Kestrel project, which ran in 1998, can still be viewed here . You can see pictures, information and animations of the breeding. As far as we know, these are the only projects of their kind to be carried out using Eurasian Jackdaws ( Corvus monedula ) and Eurasian Kestrels ( Falco tinnunculus ). There are however several similar projects around the world using Peregrine Falcons (

http://www.birdcareco.com/English/Arts/Breed_arts/Breeder/breednut.html
Breeding birds is a combination of skill, hard work, art and science. Our breeder nutrition products are designed to put both you and your birds in control of their diet. Getting it right means you will have good breeding results when others have bad years and excellent results when the others have a good year. This e-mail from leading British Yorkshire canary breeder Brian Keenan says it all: Dear Malcolm, I have now used Birdcare products for 4 years, and in that time have reared over 300 young Yorkshire canaries to maturity. Based on my previous feeding methods, I would have achieved around the 120-150 mark over the same period, at most. This year has been another 'poor year' for many canary breeders, but I have reared 80 young birds, ending the season one month earlier than normal.
Obviously, my improved results are not solely down to Birdcare products, but I am convinced they have been, and continue to be the catalyst for my on-going successes. People regularly ask me if and how I use your products, and whether I find them expensive. The additional stock I am producing more than pays for itself, compared to the price of the Birdcare products I am using – so to me, they remain on my 'essential shopping' list - as for advice, if people cannot find help from your revised web pages, then that help probably does'nt exist! The Breeding Birds Of Otselic The New York State Breeding Bird Survey
During the years 1981 through 1986, the State of New York was surveyed for breeding bird species. The entire state of New York was divided into about 1300 squares, 10 x 10 km. in area, each further subdivided into four 5km blocks. Each block was surveyed for breeding species. This was the first breeding bird survey in New York history. The results were published in a book, The Atlas of Breeding Birds in New York State
Here in Otselic, our natural habitats are intact and available for birdlife. It is the diversity of habitats that attracts the great numbers of nesting birds here every Spring. The following list of birds were proven to breed at least once in Otselic since 1980. Breeding behavior was observed during breeding season for each species in proper breeding habitat.
Three categories of breeding were used :
Confirmed - eggs, young. 2. Probable - Pair in proper habitat exhibiting courtship or nesting behavior. 3. Possible - Birds in proper habitat during proper season but no other evidence. 4. This list will add
