Ashburn, Va. (AP) - Burdened with a final insult that hurt as much as any racial setback he received over the decades, Bobby Mitchell retired Friday after 41 years with the Washington Redskins.
The first black player on a team that was slow to integrate, the Hall of Fame receiver of the 1960s found his glass ceiling to be the job of assistant general manager. In a wide ranging interview with The Associated Press, he discussed matters of race, the state of the Redskins under owner Dan Snyder, his reason for leaving - and why the team that has been such a part of his life might never hear from him again.
Mitchell wore No. 49 when he played for the Redskins from 1962-68, and no player had worn that number since - until it was given to tight end Leonard Stephens this year. Sonny Jurgensen's No. 9 and Joe Theismann's No. 7 were also given to players for a couple of days this spring, but they were quickly retracted. But not No. 49.

http://usmalibrary2.usma.edu/1898/class1898 bios.html
THE SPANISH WAR CLASS
by Susan Linnerud
One hundred years ago, West Point watched as its graduates saw combat in the first major international conflict in American history. The Monroe Doctrine had kept American soldiers on American soil for the greater part of the Academy’s history. Graduates had been involved in the Civil War and fought skirmishes during the Indian Wars, but for the first time, in 1898, they were fighting on foreign soil as the US made its debut as a world power. The American battleship the Maine was sent to Cuba as a show of force as rebels were fighting with the Spanish forces there. The battleship blew up in Havana Harbor, triggering the Spanish-American War. The four month conflict freed Cuba from Spanish rule and made Puerto Rico a possession of the US. Americans also fought the Spanish in the Philippines, which likewise was seeking its independence from Spain.
For the conflict with Spain, 50,000 men were transported to battlefields in the tropics12,000 miles apartwhere they won their victories without a single defeat, all within a period of 113 days from the declaration of war to the signing of the surrender protocol. New developments in the art of war had battlefield commanders communicating by telephone and regular army soldiers using smokeless powder in their weapons for the first time. The strategic movement of these soldiers was the Army’s responsibility. The Quartermaster Corps owned 11 ships when war was declared, bought 69 more in the ensuing months and chartered about 60 for specific missions. The West Point Class of 1898 watched as the nation prepared and left the Academy eager to use their recent training and join in the war effort.

Who I Am
I am a design engineer for hardware and software automated systems. Many systems found at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) are constantly being reviewed by engineers like myself in order to speed up the time and maintain the maximum safety levels necessary to process the experiments only found at KSC. What I Do
I review, design, build, test and implement engineering designs used in the Shuttle and Payload Operations Development Laboratories. The main project I am working on is the Advanced Payload Transfer Measurement System (APTMS) which consists of a simplified, robust, centrally operated and portable system that automatically measures the spherical coordinates offset between the trunions and their supports during transfer operations. This system has a lot of potential to become a NASA project with commercial applications.
My Career Journey
Ever since my elementary days in school, I have been thrilled with the technological advancements in the world of electronics. I was amazed by seeing blinking lights and often wondered about the intelligence behind them. Back then, I was already noticing my interest in the world of electronics. The desire and curiosity that I felt inside myself made me believe that I was just not going to accept things as they were shown to me; I needed to somehow understand and make things better. Therefore, I felt the need to have a career in engineering design.

Quinn Logan: I was born and raised in Nova Scotia, Canada and I've been writing stories all my life. Just got into comic books about two years ago after seeing the X-Men movie. My muses are the Unified Guilds of New Orleans. Most of the ideas they give me come in the middle of the night, which often means I don't get much sleep. I'm a fan of late-night TV, especially Leno and Conan. I also love stand-up comedy and can usually be found watching hour after hour of Just For Laughs on the Comedy Network. I dream of living in Louisiana someday, but in the meantime, I'm still in NS, temporarily living with my parents and two cats. I work at a Subway sandwich shop (famous for Jared, that guy who lost all the weight) and spend my vacations in Ontario with my sister and niece. I've been known to say some strange things but it's in the name of insanity, so it's all good. Future plans include possibly moving to New Brunswick for a fresh start. Razeth Kota: Raz is currently 18 years of age, is about Six-Foot-Two and weighs more than he’d like to. His favorite color is blue, his favorite sport is tackle-chess and he enjoys winding down in the evening while listening to “The Bannana Boat Song” by Harry Belafonte. He’s also a Pisces, enjoys long walks on the beach and poking dead things with a stick. But only when the mood hits.
