Birds of Prey by Peterson Field Guides for Young Naturalists
This new series is designed with the beginner in mind. Featuring the original art of celebrated naturalist Roger Tory Peterson; incorporating the Peterson Identification System, the most effective method for bird identification; and using a straightforward design. This series makes field guides accessible and appealing to children. Roger Tory Peterson was the inventor of the modern field guide. Known as the father of modern bird watching, he has been called "the greatest conservationist who ever walked this planet" (ornithologist Chandler S. Robbins). More than anyone else in the twentieth century, his work as an artist, photographer, writer, editor, educator, and conservationist has increased environmental awareness and helped millions to understand and enjoy the natural world. For his work, Dr. Peterson received every major award in the field of conservation; twenty-three honorary degrees from major universities; and the United States' highest civilian award, the Presidential Meda

December 1998 The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act
Falconry
The new Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act sets out new rules for falconry, or hawking, in Ontario. The new Act comes into force on January 1, 1999, and enables the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) to provide sound management of the province's fish and wildlife well into the next century. It replaces the Game and Fish Act , that last underwent major changes in 1980. Falconry involves the use of trained birds of prey for activities that range from hunting for sport to controlling nuisance birds at airports.
Birds that may be used for falconry There are two categories of bird that may be kept in captivity for falconry: "Falconry Birds" that are species of birds native to Ontario, and "Non-indigenous Falconry Birds" that are birds not native to Ontario. "Falconry Birds" means:
  • Bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)
  • Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos)
  • Peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus)
  • Northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis)
  • Gyrfalcon (Falco rusticolus)
  • Northern harrier (Circus cyaneus)
  • Broad-winged hawk (Buteo platypterus)
  • Cooper's hawk (Accipiter cooperii)
  • Red-shouldered hawk (Buteo lineatus)
  • Red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)
  • Sharp-shinned hawk (Accipiter striatus)
  • American kestrel (Falco sparverius)
  • Merlin (Falco columbarius)
  • Great horned owl (Bubo virginianus)
  • Northern hawk owl (Surnia ulula)
  • Snowy owl (Nyctea scandiaca)
You need a falconry licence (apprentice, general, or commercial) to keep falconry birds in captivity. You will also need a valid small game hunting licence to hunt with these birds. All birds must be banded, and you must maintain a log book and submit an annual report on each bird.

Birds of Prey at 3 episodes [Comics] Kelson
When I heard they were turning Birds of Prey into a TV series, I wasn't sure what to think, having never picked up the comic book (although I do follow various comics news sites). Having seen 3 episodes, I'm still not sure. The premiere episode was pretty good, for a pilot. In fact, most of the things I disliked about it were, as another review termed it, "pilot-itis" - excessive exposition, cast not quite settled in, etc.
I quite liked the second episode. Some good dialog, interesting plot and characterization, decent acting - showing definite promise. And I figured out why Barbara's wheelchair is motorized: it places her higher than a self-propelled chair would, making it easier to frame shots with everyone's faces visible. But tonight's episode seemed a bit too much like a "very special episode" of Birds of Prey , and the plot just didn't grab me. That and the fact that Helena was being just as bigoted as the villain, if the other way around: the metas-only bar, the repeated references to "our kind," etc. One of the things I like about the DC universe vs. the Marvel universe is that it doesn't have this anti-mutant hysteria underlying everything, and I'm concerned that it'll turn into

Please make a donation online to help us build momentum for this important campaign. The Hawk and Owl Trust is approaching major international conservation agencies to fund this programme in the long term but these funds take time to flow. We have a pressing need now to help volunteers in both Italy and Malta nurse, rehabilitate and release injured birds of prey back to the wild. They are doing a brave job in the face of the hunters and they would really benefit from your support. We guarantee that any funds donated to the Italy or Malta programmes will go directly to those projects, but we would also greatly appreciate any donations to the general fund to help cover our administration costs and nurture our long term programme for the Central Mediterranean. In Italy, these donations will cover fuel costs for the rehabbers, food and housing for injured birds and will help develop the exciting Fortino project.

Hawkwatch:
Each spring, upwards of 100,000 migrating hawks, eagles, falcons, and vultures migrate past Braddock Bay on their way to their breeding grounds to the north. Each of these birds is identified as to species, age, and sex, if possible, and counted. Various weather related data are also taken. This information is used to increase the overall data pool on the behavioral characteristics of birds of prey and to monitor population levels. The hawkwatch was started in 1977. BBRR started managing the project in 1986. A volunteer staff member conducts the project.
Hawkbanding:
Owl Migration Ecology Study:
Migrating owls are studied during their spring migration using roosting census, banding results, prey density, and habitat preferences. It is hoped that this project will yield information about the habitat and prey requirements of owls during their migration. The project was started by BBRR volunteers in 1987. A volunteer staff member conducts the project with limited help from other volunteers.
American Kestrel Population Ecology Project:
American Kestrels are captured, banded, and released throughout the year along the western lake shore of Lake Ontario. Additionally over 50 nest boxes are set up in order to determine the population dynamics of this species in decline. The project was started in 1986 by Kevin Griffith. Mr. Griffith continues to operate this project and is assisted form time to time by volunteers.

Welcome to the BIRDS OF PREY: The Series Unofficial Site. Here you will find general information about the WB’s series. Learn about New Gotham, what happened to Batgirl, and much more. WHAT WAS BIRDS OF PREY? In the days when Batman patrolled the dark streets and rooftops of New Gotham, the world's master criminals were drawn to the city to prove themselves against the greatest crime-fighter of them all. Now, Batman has vanished, but New Gotham still seethes with generations of criminals. For the good citizens of this dangerous place, hope comes in the unlikely form of a trio of beautiful and relentless heroines, the "Birds of Prey." In this exciting action-adventure series, the Batman legend takes an unexpected turn. The story begins on a terrible night seven years in the past when The Joker attacks the two women at the center of Batman's life: Catwoman and Barbara Gordon, who fought at Batman's side as Batgirl. With Catwoman dead, Batman mysteriously disappears from New Gotham. Batgirl, now confined to a wheelchair, redefines herself with a complicated double life - by day, she is Barbara Gordon, a teacher of computer sciences, but by night, she is "Oracle" (Dina Meyer, Beverly Hills, 90210), a master of cybernetics and weapons design, who monitors the activities of New Gotham's criminals from her secret lair in the city's Clocktower.

    2) The episode "Rascals" where the two Birds-of-Prey appear, leaves out no opportunity to annoy the viewers. It calls for allegedly smaller and weaker Birds-of-Prey (to explain how the Ferengi could purchase them), but actually shows stock footage of the large BoPs from TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise". Even worse, these outdated ships, manned with a bunch of intellectually challenged Ferengi, overpower the mighty Enterprise-D with ease. What an incredibly stupid script! Class specifications
