HEADLINE: WEBMASTER BREAKS KNEE! March 2003 Yes, it's true. Upper tibial plateau. No weight for three months (lots of pins and screws and stuff like that). About all I can do right now (first week back from hospital) is sit at the computer for short periods so I plan to create a long-overdue About Us section as well as an Online Bookstore.. GTB has been my hobby and a learning enviroment for me until now that my circumstances have changed fairly drastically. I can no longer wash dishes and do courier work for banks for a while at least. These were my main income so it is time to find out if GTB can generate enough revenue to keep it going..

F or countless generations, beadwork has rested on the heart of humankind's most significant cultural displays, occupying an intimate place in religion, ceremony, social status and commerce. Today's bead artists draw from ancient techniques, as well as new technologies, to create surprisingly awe-inspiring objects whose impact magnifies as each bead is selected, one at a time, to dance in light and shadow. There is no other craft like beadwork "to bede " once meant "to pray". Enjoy the bead art contained herein. Mary Portfolio About the Artist Contact Links ©2002 Mary J. Tafoya. If you call it something else, fine, I won't be offended. It is not lazy stitch, it is not sewn on leather or cloth, it might be brick stitch, etc. I am not really sure.)

We sell both wholesale and retail. Well, enough of that "self-promotion". If you would like to view our work, say hello, sign our guestbook, and maybe place an order :), please visit our website at Note: We now accept credit card payments to make ordering even simpler. Mastercard/Visa/American Express. My husband and I are currently working on a page that will feature other craftspeople from the Flathead Reservation and offer their work for sale. There are so many good sites out there and I feel that if we all link to each other we will only be helping one another. I specifically would like to concentrate on sites that deal with beadwork and quillwork, but I have already found other good ones that don't center around that. Sometimes links change or it's no good anymore-who know's with computers!! If you find a bad link on my website, please let me know.

    52. Native American Heritage Museum, History
The museum located in Highland, Kansas, illustrates contributions such as beadwork, basketmaking, and ribbon work.
    http://www.kshs.org/places/nativeamerican/history.htm
    History
A Presbyterian Mission to Iowa Indians was established nine miles south of Joseph Robidoux's Blacksnake Hills Trading Post (present-day St. Joseph, Missouri) on the Missouri River in 1835. Aurey Ballard and his wife operated this mission in the Platte Purchase region until Iowas and Missouri Sacs and Foxes signed a treaty giving up their lands in present-day northwest Missouri. In 1836 Superintendent of Indian Affairs William Clark (of Lewis and Clark fame) negotiated a treaty at Fort Leavenworth with the two tribes. The agreement stipulated that both tribes would give up all claim to lands lying between the state of Missouri and the Missouri River for $7,500. In addition to the monetary consideration, the government was to "build five comfortable houses for each tribe, break up 200 acres of land, fence 200 acres of land, furnish a farmer, blacksmith, teacher, interpreter, provide agricultural implements, furnish livestock" and a host of other small items. The treaty ceded all of present-day Atchison, Nodaway, Holt, Buchanan, Andrew and Platte Counties in Missouri in exchange for reservations in what became northern Kansas and southern Nebraska. Each reservation consisted of two hundred square miles, which was promised them "so long as the grass on the prairie shall grow." Two hundred Iowas held the north diagonal half, Sacs and Foxes the south. At this time there were approximately one thousand Iowas, five hundred Sacs, and twelve hundred Foxes. On March 28, 1837, Congress ratified the treaty signed by the two tribes that made the Platte Purchase a legal reality.

PEACE TO ALL WHO VISIT HERE and WELCOME to our website.
We are glad you stopped to visit. We hope you will enjoy this site and will return often to see what we have added. This is a family affair which includes our entire Native American family, but specifically our tribe, the Blackfeet.
Neoki-stom-i is Blackfeet for Three Bulls which is fitting as I named this site after my three sons, and in honor of my youngest son whom I have lost.
Our family has visited numerous pow-wows and while there is beautiful Native work out there, we were very disappointed to see products offered for sale that were labeled as Native American, but were shoddy and made with substandard products or were imported pieces passed off as Native American. All of the items we create are hand made and the beading is done by hand. We have used traditional patterns and materials as much as possible. You will find no plastic items here. Everything is as nature intended - bone, glass, metal, feather, leather.

Welcome to Beadwork by BeadMama - I'm BeadMama, also known as Tracy McKenna. I am a Native Canadian, a Lenni Lenape, born in Toronto. I've been doing beadwork professionally since 1997. I started full time beadwork when my daughter was an infant and we were having a naming ceremony for her. I was planning to have a give-away for everyone who came to the ceremony but didn't have a lot of money to spend on gifts. I decided I would make all the gifts for my give-away, and in time I had over 60 gifts ready for our celebration. During this time, I heard about the beadwork class offered at Native Women's Resource Centre and took some professional training. After the feverish pace of gift making was over I slowed down and began to experiment with different techniques and came up with a few of my own. In addition to the classes offered at Native Women's Resource Centre I expanded my repertoire through beadwork sites on the Internet.
