We found this book to be lacking in the number of entries/words it carries. My daughter is in a 3rd grade GT class, and a number of the words on her spelling list are not even included in this book. I find the book to be average, at best. Great teacher help I use this book in my classroom. It helps my students come up with better ways of saying and writing things. It is quicker for them to look through than a thesaurus. It helps ESL students widen their vocabulary easily. It also helps me when I work on papers while getting my Master's degree. Look It Up! is a seven part series of task cards designed to help students develop the reference skills needed in an information intensive society. The Thesaurus, Of Course! will help students learn how to use a thesaurus to find synonyms and antonyms, and identify multiple meanings of words. The Trouble with Words It is estimated that the English language contains somewhere between 450,000 and 3,000,000 words - including many with variant shades of meaning. Some even argue that no two words can ever be truly synonymous because all words have connotations of their own. Have students consider the word big , for example.
