Professional Announcements for October 16, 2000 Volume XVIII, No. 7 Lisa Nakamura , English, presented a paper at the Society for Literature and Science conference sponsored by Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, GA, entitled "Race in the Construct, or the Re-Construction of Race: New Media and Old Identities in The Matrix A longer version of this paper will be published as a book chapter next year in Domain Errors! A Cyberfeminist Handbook of Tactics , edited by Michelle Wright, Maria Fernandez, and Faith Wilding, New York: Autonomedia Press. Richard Paul , Center for Critical Thinking, recently conducted a series of seminars for the staff of State Farm Insurance Company. Approximately 500 staff members participated in the Critical Thinking Training seminars. Additionally, Paul and Linda Elder recently co-authored an article for the Journal of Developmental Education, entitled Critical Thinking: Nine Strategies for Everyday Life, Part I. Christine Renaudin , modern languages and literatures, presented a paper on Malika Mokeddem at the International Council for Francophone Studies conference held in Sousse, Tunisia, June 4-11. Her paper explored the representations of violence done to Algerian women in Malika Mokeddem's fictional works. Also, on October 6, she participated in the Southern Connecticut State University tenth annual women studies conference, entitled: "Women of African Descent: Reaching Across the Diaspora." She presided over a session on African women writers in which she read yet another paper on Malika Mokeddem, "Leaving Algeria: Women in Search of Identity Beyond Nationalism." | |
