Famous People: Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Lawrence Block by Dennis Sellers, dsellers@maccentral.com September 27, 1999, 7:00 am ET According to the Sept. 27 "New Yorker Magazine," Nobel Prize-winning, Columbian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez maintains residences in Cuernavca, Mexico; Barcelona, Spain; Paris, France; Havana, Cuba; Cartagena, Columbia; and Barraquilla, Columbia. And he has an identical Mac in each one. (The model of the Mac isn't mentioned, says MacCentral reader Bob Simpson who sent this news nugget our way.) Another famous author is also a big Mac fan. Brian J. Little recently went to a small book-signing session with author Lawrence "Larry" Block in Charlotte, North Carolina. During a few minutes of conversation, Little discovered that the writer is not only a Mac user, but has a laptop G3 and a desktop PowerMac of uncertain vintage. "He did say that it's about time to replace it, so I spent a few minutes extolling the virtues of G4," says Little. Block is the author of the Bernie Rhodenbarr mysteries, as well as the Evan Tanner mysteries and the Matthew Scudder mysteries. He's also written at least two books on how to write good fiction, and has edited a number of crime-story collections. (If you've sent us an item for our Famous People column, please be patient. It will appear, but we've been swamped with entries. If you know of a famous person using the Mac, send it to Yours Truly at | |
