Gort Notes Ardrahan Are Club Of The Year THE top award in County Galway for underage hurling, "Juvenile Hurling Club of the Year" for 1998, has been awarded to Ardrahan (jointly with Tommy Larkins). The club officers were presented with the award by Galway Coiste Iomána na nÓg Chairman, Toddie Byrne at a ceremony in the Oyster Manor Hotel, Clarenbridge on Saturday night last. The occasion marked the culmination of a year of achievement for Vincent Mullins (Chairman), Michael Brennan (Secretary) and Bernard Forde (Treasurer), as they heard Toddie Byrne congratulate Ardrahan on an "outstanding year, both on and off the field of play". It was a proud night for the trio of officers whose leadership, organisational skills and guidance had brought the top honour to the club and a well-deserved reward for the work they had put into it. HUNT CHASE FOR SHOW Beagh and District Riding Club will hold a hunt chase this Sunday as a fundraiser for Gort Show Society. The starting point will be the Square, Gort at 1.30 p.m. and the sixty horses and ponies and their riders will proceed through Glenbrack to Gort Mart (on the Tubber road) where they will have a punch stop. The chase will go cross-country through Kinnincha, Lavally, Circular Road and Beagh - a ten miles long trek through the local countryside. The finishing post is to be at St. Colman's Park.

Physics STANYS Curriculum Development: Enrichment Activities and Real-World Applications on the STANYS WEB-SITE The Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS) is preparing to meet the challenge of training new teachers and updating those already teaching by yet another modality, the Internet. At STANY's 7th Annual Strategic Planning meeting this past January, the new resource "Enrichment Activities and Real-World Applications" was developed. This resource has the potential to be a valuable aid to new teachers as they begin their careers guiding students to the understanding and appreciation of science, and educators throughout the country will be able to benefit from it. Six areas were explored: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Earth Science, Intermediate and Elementary Science. (See links below.) Strategic Planning Meeting Participants identified the fundamental ideas related to these subject areas and levels, then developed enrichment activities, classroom exercises, and demonstrations. Laboratory activities, real world applications and resources were cited. These activities not only make classrooms come alive, but they are what students will take away and remember for a lifetime. All six areas' resources should be on the Web by mid May. The resource was designed as a dynamic entity that will change and grow as teachers from near and far contribute their personal expertise. Back to main page A few people I need to thank... I just want to take a little space here to thank my Mom, Dorothy Grady. She's been the inspiration for it all, and so I just want to say "thanks" to her right now. Thanks, Mom. And, of course, Dad too, Gary Burrell . Wow, Dad. And my brothers, Mike and Steve , who didn't beat me up sufficiently in childhood to make me realize I should just stop asking questions. C'est dans la voiture avec son papa, Pierre, que Lara a chanté la 1ere fois, c'etait sur une chanson passant à la radio. Son pere est alors allé chercher sa maman pour lui faire écouté sa fille. C'est ce jour là qu'ils ont compris que leur fille n'etait pas comme les autres...Lara avait 4 ans à ce moment là. 2. Le prénom de Lara est une idée de sa maman qui a été inspirée par le livre "Le docteur Jivago" dans lequel la Lara en question était une infirmiere romantique. Il faut savoir que la maman de Lara est une ancienne prof de lettres. 3. Le papa de Lara, Pierre Crokaert, a été guitariste de Petula Clark 4. Lara à rencontré l'amour à 17ans avec un Irlandais de 29 ans. Leur histoire a duré un an mais pour des raisons de langue, de pays, d'âges et d'ambitions, leur histoire n'a pas duré. Cette rupture a été un gros coup dur pour Lara qui a, en revanche, été inspirée pour écrire plusieurs chansons dont la plus célèbre: "Si tu m'aimes" 5. Lara durant son adolescence à tenu un journal intime qu'elle continue d'écrire aujourd'hui. Mais inutile de le chercher, il est introuvable a t'elle déclarée.
