Hunt, Leigh Examiner, a liberal weekly to which he contributed political articles. Because of an outspoken article casting aspersions on the prince regent, the brothers were imprisoned from 1813 to 1815, but they continued to edit the journal from jail. In 1822, Hunt joined Shelley and Byron in Italy and launched the Liberal (1822-23), which proved a failure. During other periods Hunt contributed to the Indicator (1819-21), the Tatler (1830-32), and Leigh Hunt's London Journal (1834-35). His literary fame rests chiefly on his miscellaneous light essays, his lyrics Abou Ben Adhem and Jenny Kissed Me, and his witty and informative autobiography (1850). The Story of Rimini (1816), based on the love of Paolo and Francesca, is his only long poem of consequence. A noted dramatic and literary critic, he was one of the first to praise the genius of Shelley and Keats. See L. H. Houtchens and C. W. Biographical Sketch Mabel Leigh Hunt was born in Coatsville, Indiana on November 1, 1892. She was raised in a Quaker home in Greencastle, Indiana, in a sixteen bedroom house on fifteen acres of land. She says the she invented her first short story at the age of three about her mother making a cherry pie. Books and magazines were always available to her while growing up and she used paper dolls to act out characters in her favorite stories. Her mother often sang nursery rhymes and recited poetry to her. Her father was a country doctor who enjoyed playing word games and reading stories aloud to the family. They moved to Plainfield, Indiana when she was ten and stayed there until her father died. After his death, she and her mother moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. Ms. Hunt attended DePauw University, in Greencastle, Indiana, for two years (1910-1912) and received a year of library training at Western University Library School in Cleveland, Ohio (1923). She worked as a librarian at the Indianapolis Public Library from 1926-1938, when she resigned to write books full time. She wrote her first book

James Henry Leigh Hunt was born on October 19, 1784, at Southgate, near London, England, where his father, Isaac Hunt, was tutor to the Duke of Chandos's nephew, James Henry Leigh. The Hunts were a colonial family, the father being descended from generations of Barbados clergymen and the mother being the daughter of a wealthy Philadelphian merchant. Leigh Hunt's parents had actually met in Philadelphia where his father had studied and practiced law until his Loyalist sympathies and strong pamphlets in the War of Independence had necessitated his urgent migration to England. There his On leaving school, Leigh Hunt published a book of verse, Juvenilia , financed by subscriptions canvassed by his proud father and also pondered a future career. After proudly rejecting his brothers' professions of law, art, and printing, he eventually joined his brother John eight years older than himself a printer who had founded a newspaper called the News . John was stern, strong, politically minded, and above all, dedicated to independence in life and work. His staff, he insisted, must write the unbiased truth. l.eigh, who already loved the theater, became its drama critic, and at a time when most theatrical reviews were a dutiful response to free tickets and dinners, his lively, well-written and impartial assessments were revolutionary and highly successful. They also showed him a new and fulfilling path, for he discovered the headiness of journalistic power. His reviews were noted for their aggression as well as for their independence. It was such success that emboldened John Hunt in 1808 to turn to Leigh for his next main journalistic venture, a political weekly, the
