USA $24.99 ABOUT THIS BOOK "Dada Means Nothing!" So proclaimed Tristan Tzara, the movement's tireless publicist. Yet this did not prevent the most fanatical and talented artists ans writers across Europe from rushing to join its ranks. Anti-war, anti-art, anti-dada, from its beginnings in Zurich during the first World War the dadas swept aside the cultural, philosophical and political norms of their time. Utter disgust with a society that had created the war (and then expected to survive the peace) spurred them to ever greater demonstrations of revulsion and derision. Yet it was not all nihilism: many factions worked within the Dada Movement and it was Huelsenbeck's intention to embody most of them in the Dada Almanac . The largest collection of Dadaist texts ever assembled by the movement, it was originally published in 1920 in a mixture of French and German.
The Dada Almanac was truly international in scope, with substantial sections from the Swiss and French sections of the movement, it embodies Dada's failings as well as its sucesses, its excesses, its seriousness, its idiocy, but above all the anarchic vitality which made it such a vital precondition for so much that followed in the fields of art, literature and general cultural terrorism.

biographies : richard huelsenbeck Born on 23 April 1892 in Frankenau, Hessen, Germany, died 1974. Late in his life he lived in New York under the name of Charles R. Hulbeck and practised Jungian psycho-analysis. Took a prominent part in the foundation of the Zürich and Berlin dada movements. He had been an expressionist poet and writer. Came to Zürich in February 1916 as a ware-resistor and immediately came into contact with the "Cabaret Voltaire." He returned to Berlin in January, 1917, helping to initiate the Dada group there. Hugo Ball wrote of him, in his "Escape from Time," on 11 February 1916: "Huelsenbeck has arrived. He pleads for an intensification of rhythm (Negro rhythm). He would best love to drum literature and to perdition." Edited the "Dada Almanach" in Berlin in 1920 and wrote "En Avant Dada," a history of dadaism. in the same year. The author of numerous other dada publications. He claimed throughout his life that "dada is still existing," thus placing himself in direct opposition to the other founders of dadaism.

Richard Huelsenbeck:
dadaistisches manifest
Nein! Nein! Nein!

dada poetry richard huelsenbeck to anna flower Oh you, sweetheart of my twenty-seven senses, I
love you! - You your you to you, I to you, you to me.
- We?
That (accidentally) does not belong here.
Who are you, unnumbered wench? You are
_ are you? - The people say, you were, - let
them talk, they do not know how the church tower stands.
You wear your hat on your feet and wander
on your hands, on your hands you wander.
Hullo, your clothes, sawed into white folds.
I love red Anna Flower, I love you red! - You your you to you, I to you, you to me. - We? That (incidentally) belongs in the cold embers. Red flower, red Anna Flower, what do the people say? The sixty-four dollar question: 1.) Anna Flower has a bird. 2.) Anna Flower is red. 3.) What color is the bird? Blue is the color of your yellow hair. Red is the cooing of your green bird. You plain girl is workaday dress, you lovely green animal, I love you! - You your you to you I to you, you to me, - We? That (incidentally) belongs where the embers are. Anna Flower! Anna, a-n-n-a, I let your name trickle from my lips. Your name drips like soft tallow.

Our Story So Far
The original Ridgefield Gazook was a four-page hand-drawn newsletter, written and edited by Man Ray, who was working out of Ridgefield, N.J., an artist's colony. It consisted of four pages of nonsense graphics, puns and illustrations. Only a single number (Number 0) appeared, dated March 31, 1915. This second number does not attempt to recreate the spirit of the first. I liked the title, its pre-Dada origins, and the fact it was created with home-grown, All-American, irreverent, nonsensical Dada spirit.
