I have read documentation that states either Bowling Baker or James Baker is believed to be his father. I believe his brothers were James, William, Bowling, and Thomas. James, George, Bowling and William were in the Baker’s Forge venture in Campbell County, Tennessee. Thomas was left guardian of George’s son Ewing after his death in 1826. UNC HOMEPAGE Howard Henry dies at 81 H oward Henry, the first permanent director of Graham Memorial Student Union at Carolina, died Aug. 28. He was 81. It was under Henry's guidance that the current Frank Porter Graham Student Union Building was built and the Carolina Union was established as the major student programming organization on campus. Henry served as the union's director until his retirement in 1986. He also was a member of the Division of Student Affairs. Recognized as a strong student advocate, Henry was tapped as an honorary member of the Order of the Golden Fleece. Henry, who earned his degree at the University of Wisconsin, piloted a B-25 bomber in World War II. He was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross for his efforts. Inaugural Address Quick Facts The Presidents EA Contents WILLIAM HOWARD TAFT Biography William Howard Taft (1857-1930), 27th PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES and 10th chief justice of the United States. He was the only man in American history to hold both offices. He esteemed his service on the Supreme Court (1921-1930) more highly than the presidency, having aspired to a judicial career from his youth. He recoiled from active participation in politics and had small talent for its vicissitudes, being too easygoing and not enough of a fighter for the political arenas. Taft was not an innovator, either in the WHITE HOUSE or on the bench. His record as chief executive was not without distinction, though it was beclouded by the bitter political factional quarrel that ended his presidency after one term (1909-1913). He is chiefly remembered as the friend and then the political antagonist of the Progressive Republican President Theodore ROOSEVELT , with the effect that Taft is often supposed to have been more conservative than in fact he was. King Henry VIII first became attracted to the young girl Catherine in 1540, when he was seeking to end his politically motivated marriage to Anne of Cleves, to whom Catherine was a maid of honour. He had his marriage to Anne annulled on July 9, and on July 28 Henry and Catherine were privately married. He publicly acknowledged her as queen on August 8. Smith of Greensboro, Alabama, on April 30, 1891. Ms. Smith was the daughter of Dr. Luther M. Smith, a well-known educator. Scope and Content Note This collection consists of one handwritten sermon. It is four pages in length and takes as its topic Revelations 3:20 and Luke 24:13-31.
