"Fight!" said one, a still-working, vigorous seventy-year old, a rarity. "Don’t let anyone tell you what to do! If you don’t like something, say it. For the love of Christ, you’re letting them take your living away from you!" The vote was 7,346 for, 4,893 against arbitration by an independent adjudicator. A man arrived from Washington, a reputably honest man born and raised in Cleveland, where once an immense light bulb popping industry flourished. His name was Cecil M. Stark. He worked for the Department of Labor.

MTravel "I have to give this story the blue ribbon of the bunch because it attempts a style unprecedented. It's a story in a documentary style. Perhaps this is my own personal bias, but I'd like to see even more of the documentary style. What's great about Presenting James Hoagland is that it gives such serious commentary about something ridiculous lightbulb popping. When I read the story, I see it in black and white, as serious as the Depression, and just as ridiculously demeaning. Big monster machines crushing light bulbs. John I'd like to write a documentary about lightbulb popping. The audience will ask, 'Did this actually happen somewhere? Did they pop lightbulbs in some industrial midwest city maybe?'" Information, and Technology September 11, 2000 Computer Security: How Vulnerable Are Federal Computers? Mr. Chairman and Members of the Subcommittee: Thank you for inviting me here today to discuss computer security at the Social Security Administration (SSA). We appreciate this subcommittees interest in systems security and agree that system security is critical in todays environment. At the outset, let me emphasize that SSA has always taken its responsibility to protect the privacy of personal information in Agency files very seriously. The Social Security Boards first regulation, published in 1937, dealt with the confidentiality of SSA records. For 65 years, SSA has honored its commitment to the American people to maintain the confidentiality of the records in our possession. We understand in order to address privacy concerns we need a strong computer security program in place. Modern computer security requires the implementation of sophisticated software and control of access to the system. SSA uses state of the art software that carefully restricts any user access to data except for its intended use. Using this software, only persons with a "need to know" to perform a particular job function are approved and granted access. Our systems controls not only register and record access, but also determine what functions a person can do once access is authorized. SSA security personnel assign a computer-generated personal identification number and an initial password to persons who are approved for access (the person must change the password every 30 days). This allows SSA to audit and monitor the actions individual employees take when using the system. These same systems provide a means to investigate allegations of misuse and have been crucial in prosecuting employees who misuse their authority.

Chairman Horn, Chairwomen Morella, Representative Turner, Representative Barcia and Members of the Subcommittees: I appreciate being here today to discuss the Social Security Administration s (SSA) Day One Plan and Business Continuity and Contingency Plans for the Year 2000 changeover. I would like to thank the subcommittees for holding this hearing to make the public aware of SSA s plans for a continuation of service if the unexpected should happen. Social Security is recognized as a leader in preparing our systems for the Year 2000, and we are confident that the monthly payments to 50 million people and the earnings records of 145 million workers will not be affected. Social Security s benefit payment systems are Year 2000 ready.

Phone: (504) 928-2228 Research Experience 1991- 94: Estimation of error in satellite rendezvous targeting algorithms, as a function of initial state of satellites. Least squares parameter estimation results in error correction which can be incorporated into the targeting algorithm. Better models of Earth's geopotential are used to solve for relative motion to give new targeting algorithm. 1992-95: Improved tracking of missiles using data from several radars. Data from each observation contains random error; this error has a covariance matrix; the data and their covariances are fused by new filters to give position, velocity and acceleration estimates.

They were married at the Thomas W. Phillips' house. Children of Jack Dyer and Ollie Phillips: Bessie Belle Dyer Born March 9, 1901, near Mt. Vernon, Lawrence Co., MO. She disliked the name Bessie and was known as Betty as an adult, although her family still often called her Bessie. She moved with her parents to Canon City Colorado by 1902, but her parents separated by 1903 and she had returned with her mother to Missouri by 1907.Betty spent her childhood in in Missouri and Arkansas, moving around with her mother Ollie, who was a licensed evangelist in the Free Methodist church. In 1917, when Betty was 16, Ollie remarried Frank Helsel and the family settled in McPherson, KS where Betty met and married Lester Alvin Dye on May 14, 1919. Lester and Betty had three children, and the family moved often with Lester's jobs. They lived in Nebraska, North Dakota, California and Colorado. Known as "Momo" to her grandchildren, Betty had a sweet and gentle disposition, and a great sense of humor.
