    Movement by Saar Magal Richard, son of Edward the Black Prince, ascended the throne of England at the age of ten. An elegant, luxurious, sensitive monarch, "too favorable" to his enemies and oblivious to his people's suffering, Richard is ultimately stripped of his wealth, power, and kingdom - and with them his sense of self. Innovative director Robert Woodruff returns to stage this most lyrical and psychologically complex of Shakespeare's history plays. The major goal of our lab is to understand the biological basis of learning. We believe that a comprehensive understanding of the relevant mechanisms for learning will require relating discrete synaptic processes to behavior, ultimately in the awake animal. To this end, we focus on a constellation of interconnected brain nuclei in the songbird that acquire, produce, and maintain its learned vocalizations. The wealth of behavioral data characterizing birdsong learning coupled with the discrete anatomical nature of the song circuitry make songbirds an ideal organism in which to study the cellular mechanisms of learning and memory. Song learning in birds shares many features with speech learning in humans, including developmental restriction to an early "critical period." During the critical period, the juvenile bird listens to and copies the song of a tutor; after the critical period closes, such copying apparently is impossible. One major goal of our lab is to understand the neuronal regulation of the critical period for song learning, in part because it could yield important insights into the relatively prodigious learning power of the juvenile brain.

    history and heritage accommodation guide to England, Scotland and Wales Welcome to History UK - the History of England! The Mystery of the Princes in the Tower. In 1933 the skeletons of two young boys, one aged about 10 and the other 13 were disinterred from Westminster Abbey and examined by L.E. Tannery and W. Wright. These bones had been re-buried in an urn in 1674 and placed in the Henry VIIIth Chapel in the Abbey. The skeletons aroused much interest and debate as they were believed by many historians to be the bones of the two princes who were reputably murdered in the Tower of London in the 15th century. The princes were Edward V and his brother Richard Duke of York, the sons of Edward IV and his Queen, Elizabeth Woodville. Their uncle, Richard of Gloucester, later Richard III , came after them in the succession. Sir Thomas More in his History, was quite sure that these young boys were murdered by their uncle Richard of Gloucester and Shakespeare also portrayed Richard III as the evil murderous uncle.

    Kings of England
    Richard I.,
    Henry II. , Sept. 3rd, l189. He had previously taken the cross, and now resolved to fulfil his vow in the fields of Palestine for which object he raised money by the sale of the crown property and offices, and a great number of English barons joined in the enterprise. In 1190 Richard joined the Crusade with Philip Augustus of France; and 100,000 of their bravest subjects met together on the plains of Vezelai. The two royal crusaders proceeded by separate routes to Sicily. There they quarrelled, but were reconciled by means of a large money payment by Richard. After some months' stay in Sicily, they again set forward; Richard on the way making himself master of Cyprus, and giving it to Guy of Lusignan.
    Richard II.,
    King of England, was son of Edward the Black Prince, by his wife, Joan, called ' The Fair Maid of Kent,' and was born at Bordeaux, in February, 1366 or 1367 (there seems to be some confusion here which may be due to the old date/new date problem -CH 2002). his father died in 1376, and he was created Prince of Wales ; succeeding his grandfather, Edward III.,

    Richard, Duke of Gloucester, at Middleham Castle
    20" x 17"
    Following the death of the Earl of Warwick at the battle of Barnet in 1471, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, was granted the Lordship of Middleham in Yorkshire. He had spent many formative years there as a boy, in the care of Warwick, and it is generally accepted that he preferred Middleham to his other castles. In 1472 he married Warwick's youngest daughter, Anne Neville, and their only son, Edward, was born in the castle in c.1473. Graham Turner's painting is set around 1480 and shows Richard being greeted by his retainers as he enters the great hall at Middleham, accompanied by Anne and Edward. Price: $45

    Research Interests: Topology of Algebraic Varieties, Hodge Theory, and Moduli of Curves
    I am a topologist whose main interests include the study of the topology of complex algebraic varieties (i.e. spaces that are the set of common zeros of a finite number of complex polynomials). What fascinates me is the interaction between the topology, geometry and arithmetic of varieties defined over subfields of the complex numbers, particularly those defined over number fields. My main tools include differential forms, Hodge theory and Galois theory, in addition to the more traditional tools used by topologists. Topics of current interest to me include:
    • the topology and related geometry of various moduli spaces, such as the moduli spaces of smooth curves and moduli spaces of principally polarized abelian varieties;
    • the study of fundamental groups of algebraic varieties, particularly of moduli spaces whose fundamental groups are mapping class groups;
