The Wishsong of Shannara By: Terry Brooks Reveiw Second Reveiw Analysis The Wishsong of Shannara By: Terry Brooks Four Stars I have read many fantasy books, and compared to the others I have read, The Wishsong of Shannara was pretty good.There were times when I had to force myself to keep reading, but more often than not, it was a real page turner, and I had to force myself to put it down. The things I liked most about " The Wishsong of Shannara " were the characters and the conflicts. The characters had very colorful personalities, and after reading the book, I felt as if I had known some of them personally. I also liked the main conflict which was between "good" and "evil". This is not an unusual conflict, however Terry Brooks presented it in a way that was exciting and suspenseful. For once I was not sure whether good or evil would win the battle. The thing that I disliked the most about the book was the way the writer wrote it. The setting would have been more interesting with better description. Also, the way Terry Brooks wrote seemed awkward. The words did not flow smoothly, and at times sentences seemed extremely choppy. I would recommend this book to a person who enjoys strange worlds and even stranger characters. A person who likes fantasy would probably love "

BROOKS, TERRY The Sword of Shannara (First Shannara Trilogy #1) The Sword of Shannara is set on Earth in an extremely distant future. A nuclear holocaust almost annihilated mankind, but a few survived to form new kingdoms and societies. Some mutated to become dwarves, trolls and other races, quite similar to the "traditional" mold. Magic appeared in this post-nuclear world, and was extensively studied by a gathering of wise men called the Druids, who also wanted to reclaim the ancient technologies. One of these Druids turned bad, and almost conquered the world in two terrible wars; the Wars of the Races. He was known as the Warlock Lord ( Sauron :-). The story begins 500 years after the Second War of the Races, in a time when the Warlock Lord appears to be dormant in the Skull Kingdom ( Mordor :-) far to the North, believed by most to be dead or mythical. Next Page (Steven Brust) Previous Page (David Brin) Brooks, Terry Star Wars: The Phantom Menace This is the official novelization of the first chapter of the Star Wars saga envisioned by George Lucas. Judged purely as a story, it is all right, and I'd probably give it very high marks just for the richness of the Star Wars universe in which it exists. Judged with the movie as its basis, and this book isn't all that great. Oh, it follows the story-line close enough with a few minor discrepancies (in the book, Anakin blurts out "I will marry you someday" to Amidala, a far cry from the innocent "Are you an angel?" comment in the movie), but the book doesn't go into much depth about any characters, adding little for anyone familiar with the movie. Perhaps the most space in the book is given to further revelations about the relationship between Obi-Won and Qui-Gon, which is portrayed as far more antagonistic in the book than in the movie. I can't decide if I like this or not, but I suppose it helps to give the Jedi a little more than "boy scout" depth. On the other hand, does Lucas really intend that Obi-Won thinks Qui-Gon is occasionally a buffoon, more or less? I find that hard to fathom, but such is life as an author shackled with the Star Wars rules in order to get a healthy payday. The only other interesting revelation in this book not explicitly mentioned in the movie is that the population of Jedi at the time of this story is in the neighborhood of 10,000 (!), far more than I expected. I'm sure this well be explored more at length during later movies dealing with the clone wars, though. I can't wait!
