This picture was first published in the Johns Hopkins News-Letter . I camped out on Somerset Road to get front row Centre Court seats for the chance to see this Agassi backhand Sabine Appelmans
Here's a close-up of Sabine from the Lipton. I also have a nice shot of a forehand on the Grandstand court. I also caught Sabine at the Olympics Olga Barabanschikova
Olga has played in Fed Cup and the Olympics for Belarus. While I did see her play at the Olympics, I only took pictures of her practicing. Check out the overhead and forehand of the new "Belle of Belarus". The next year she played in the qualifying for the U.S. Women's Hardcourts. If you look closely, you can see Olga's pierced navel in this photo from the 1998 Boston Cup Dawn Buth
Dawn won the 1996 and 1997 NCAA doubles championships with Stephanie Nickitas. They also helped Florida win the 1996 and 1998 team championships. I have pictures of Dawn hitting a

    Patty McCain Position:
Head Coach Experience: Sixth season Patty McCain joined the Husky tennis program during the summer of 1997 and quickly established Washington as an up-and-coming team after enjoying much success on the court herself as a former top-20 professional player and two-time NCAA singles champion at Stanford University. She guided the Huskies to the NCAA Tournament in each of her five seasons. Last year, the Huskies advanced as far as the NCAA second round, ending the season with a No. 24 national ranking and a 14-11 overall record. The 2001 squad registered the finest season in UW history, posting a 21-8 record, advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals and finishing with a No. 11 final ITA ranking. The Huskies posted four wins over top-20 opponents, including victories over No. 5 California and a Sweet 16 triumph over No. 5 Tennessee. UW tied for second in the Pac-10 with a 6-2 mark. Due to the impending birth of her daughter, Keegan, McCain did not travel to Stone Mountain, Ga. for the round of 16 and quarterfinals during that year.

    http://www.nasdaq-100open.com/history/hist.html
home tickets news players ... 2002 results The dream of an international tennis tournament in Miami began three decades ago, when top tennis players such as Jack Kramer, Frank Sedgman, Pancho Gonzalez, Pancho Segura and Butch Buchholz toured the country in a station wagon, playing tennis in darkened arenas and fairgrounds. It was before the days of Open tennis, and they traveled with a portable canvas court and plenty of hopes. Buchholz - an original member of the "Handsome Eight" (the first recognized pros of Lamar Hunt's World Championship Tennis Circuit introduced in 1968) - competed until he was forced to retire from tennis in 1970 with chronic tennis elbow. In 1980, when Buchholz was executive director of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) - the player's union - he met a vice president of the Thomas J. Lipton Company who liked his idea of creating a two-week players tournament. A sponsorship agreement would eventually be reached for $1.5 million a year for five years and Lipton would own the title. The "Winter Wimbledon," as it was first dubbed, would be the first major tournament of the year (the Australian Open was then held in December). It was decided that the first tournament would be held at Laver's International Tennis Resort in Delray Beach, 50 miles north of Miami. The following year, the tournament relocated to Boca Raton followed by a move to its permanent home in Miami in 1987. Buchholz approached the ATP and Women's Tennis Association and offered prize money, a percentage of the ticket sales and worldwide television rights. In return he wanted the rights to run the tournament for 15 years. The associations agreed.
