The Norwegian midfielder and City had both said in the past that they were investigating the possibility of suing Keane after the tackle in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford in April 2001. Mardi 11 février 2003 - DUBLIN (AFP) - L'Irlandais Roy Keane, capitaine de Manchester United (D1 anglaise de soccer), a annoncé mardi à Dublin qu'il mettait fin à sa carrière internationale après avoir reçu des "recommandations médicales sans équivoque." "Les médecins qui m'ont opéré de la hanche en septembre m'ont fait des recommandations sans équivoque: je ne devrais pas reprendre (la compétition internationale). Je suis au regret d'annoncer que je suis contraint de confirmer ma retraite internationale", a affirmé Roy Keane dans un communiqué. "Je suis extrêmement reconnaissant pour le soutien reçu ces derniers mois et je suis également très désolé de ne plus pouvoir jouer pour mon pays", a ajouté Roy Keane, 31 ans, qui avait manqué la dernière Coupe du monde après avoir été exclu du groupe durant le stage de préparation à la suite d'une sévère explication avec le sélectionneur d'alors Mick McCarthy, qui depuis a été limogé.
