"I gave candy to Cleo because I fell in love with her," he whispered, nodding toward the pink-clad girl with the honey blond ponytail the "class heartthrob," according to kindergarten teacher Kim Spigener. Just in case the candy wasn't enough to woo the elusive Cleo, Alex followed up with a Sponge Bob Squarepants valentine. The kids at St. Josephs School in Columbia know a valentine is more than a little slip of paper. And even a kindergartner can tell you there are certain rules to be followed before one drops a sticker-sealed envelope onto a classmate's desk: Give a card to everyone, try to match the card to each friend's personality, and above all, don't be too mushy.

If You Have Info Or Corrections For This Page Click Here Audio Info To fully understand what this was all about, lets go back to the 1960's. Seattle was yet to have it's NBA franchise, the Sonics. Further, the "slam dunk" was in it's infancy. KJR enjoyed unique supremacy and thankfully, KJR had an owner who let me do must about anything I wanted! So, an idea evolved into a promotion that is fondly remembered today. Not just by the participants but thousands of high school students who here, some 35 years later, bring it up and fondly recall a visit to their school by this basketball team. The following was the premise. Now, lets describe the event itself and try to picture this. No less than 30 times each winter, this team visited an area high school but due to popular demand, no school could host a visit more than once every two years. It all started with the promos of where the team would play in the month to come. The schools agreed to a put numerous posters around the campus promoting the event. All proceeds from the evening went to a fund of the schools choosing. The All Americans required a payment of $250.00 which would insure that the school was committed. It is accurate to say that a game that wasn't a sellout was rare. It's 7:45pm and the team takes the floor. Beautiful red white and blue uniforms, we brought our own referees and PA system. The announcer for the game was Lan Roberts. After an astounding warm up session where our "ringers" would put on an astounding "slam dunk" exhibition, one of the keys elements of the whole event took place. Just before the players were introduced, a giant trophy, (4 feet high) was taken to the center of the floor. The announcer would then say, "Ladies and Gentleman, tonight, you faculty has challenged the mighty KJR All Americans. The All Americans have a life time record of 92 wins and only 3 defeats, At the center of the floor, the giant trophy that will become a permanent fixture in your schools trophy case if you faculty can tonight, defeat this powerful team." Well, the stands would go nuts! God, what if there school could actually do it. Think of the acclaim on the radio the next day. Think of that trophy belonging to their school forever. WOW!

Feb. 20, 1963- Basketball player. Among the preeminent talents in the National Basketball Association is the outspoken forward of the Philadelphia 76ers, Charles Barkley, whose quick and aggressive play around the basket has placed him among the league's leading rebounders and scorers since the 1986-87 season. At six feet five inches tall, Barkley is the shortest player ever to lead the NBA in rebounding. The 250 pounds packed onto his relatively stubby frame helps Barkley to overpower taller players; never has a player so heavy been able to leap as high or dribble as skillfully. "Charles Barkley is unique with his body frame, with his structure, with his jumping ability," Pat Riley, the former head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers and currently the head coach of the New York Knicks, explained to Jan Hubbard of New York News day (February 25, 1990). "The whole thing is unique, and that's why he is truly great." An extraordinarily intense competitor, Barkley plays every game as though it were his last. "A game for Charles is a passionate experience," Matt Guokas, Barkley's former head coach with the 76ers, told Mark Ribowsky for Inside Sports (June 1986). "I've never seen anyone so ferocious in wanting to prove he's better than his opponent." But Barkley's highly emotional nature and his frequently blunt comments to reporters have often made him the center of controversy.

Game Show Host or CIA Hit Man? You Decide!
Chuck Barris was the great mind behind hit television game shows The Dating Game, Newlywed Game and The Gong Show
"I have had a lot of ups and downs in my life," says Barris. He made a name for himself early after writing a song and passing it around Hollywood. It became a hit, but the executives asked him to stop hi s music career because they didn't want him stepping on Dick Clarks toes. Instead, he was asked to keep an eye on Clark to keep him from doing anything "crazy."
