P1 Owner Robin Yount to Race at Long Beach By Geoff Fickling April 5 The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach may seem like just another race weekend for P1 Racing part-owner Robin Yount. Discussing race strategies, down- loading session data, and changing an occasional spark plug will all be on his agenda to help the P1 Racing Atlantic team succeed. Yet a new task for the multi-talented retired baseball player will confront him this weekend. He will drive in the Toyota Pro-Celebrity Raceas a pro. Robin has competed competitively in professional racing off and on for over 15 years, so even though he has celebrity status because of his 20-year professional baseball career, he will race as a pro. In fact, the first time Robin met Bill Fickling, P1's majority owner, was when he was looking into purchasing a Sports2000 racecar. They've been close friends ever since. In the summer of 1999, Robin was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. His achievements are numerous as he was MVP of the American League twice, once at shortstop and once at centerfield, and led the Milwaukee Brewers to the American League pennant in 1982. He has been involved in P1 Racing for over ten years and became a part-owner of the team in 1997.

Robin Yount Co-Owner P-1 Racing A long-time racing enthusiast, Robin Yount has always loved to go fast. Playing Major League Baseball for the Milwaukee Brewers for twenty seasons slightly impeded his pursuit of becoming a professional racecar driver, but didn't shelter him completely from the sport. Having raced cars and motorcycles off and on when the time permitted during his Baseball career, Robin decided to buy a racecar in the winter of 1986. Having made a few phone calls to see what the best class to get into, Robin was given the phone number of P-1 Racing team owner Bill Fickling. Robin called Bill to buy a Sports2000 racecar, Bill offered to prepare it for him and help him out and their friendship grew from there. Robin and Bill drove together in many Sports2000 races during Robin's off-seasons from Baseball. As P-1 Racing developed, so did Robin's involvement with the team. Three years after retiring from Baseball in 1994, Robin accepted Bill's offer to become a part-owner in P-1 Racing in November 1997. Since then, Robin has become much more hands-on. He has attended nearly every race, and become inspiration for the team on what it takes to win, no matter what sport it is. From changing spark plugs to down-loading race data, the two-time MVP doesn't mind setting the example and doing some dirty work.

The 1999 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee will manage Arizona pro alumni against the 2001 Wildcats in the annual seven inning exhibition game on Feb. 11. Fifth Third Bank is the title sponsor for the 2001 game. "Having Robin Yount manage the Alumni team is very exciting for everyone involved with the Fifth Third Bank All-Pro Alumni Game," says Stitt. "Robin is one of the best ball players to have ever played the game. Our current players, our former players, the fans, everyone involved is very excited that he has agreed to be a part of the game." A 20-year Major League veteran, Yount was a three time All-Star and was twice named American League MVP. He was the third youngest player to amass 3,000 career hits and is just one of three players to combine for over 250 home runs, 200 stolen bases, 3,000 hits and 100 triples for a career.
