Ted Williams' body now resides in a cryonic warehouse at Alcor Life Extension Foundation in Scottsdale, Ariz., moved there by the son because, as Dan Shaughnessy, columnist for The Boston Globe said: "There are only two ways to think of this: Best case The son is in denial and thinks he can bring his father back to life. Worst case John Henry hopes to profit from prospective cloning or DNA distribution." "Ted Williams was a private person in life, and in death he wished to remain private," Eric Abel, Williams' attorney, said in a statement. "He did not wish to have any funeral or funeral services."

07/05/2002 - Updated 09:58 PM ET What they're saying about Ted Williams AP file Ted Williams shows off the tools of the trade during his .400 season of 1941. President Bush: "Ted Williams demonstrated unique talent and love of country. We will always remember his persistence on the field and his courage off the field. Ted gave baseball some of its best seasons (1941) — and he gave his own best seasons to his country.'' Baseball commissioner Bud Selig: ''Ted was an American legend. Besides being one of baseball's all-time greats, he was a genuine war hero, having served as a Marine flyer in World War II and in the Korean conflict.'' Red Sox teammate and Hall of Famer Bobby Doerr: ''I think he was the best hitter that baseball has had. He wanted to be the greatest hitter of all time, and he worked hard at that, but he was also a great teammate."

11. Say Hey, Kid!
For years, Joe DiMaggio held the title of baseball's greatest living player. As of 8 March that was no longer possible, so the Denver Post surveyed explayers, managers, and sportswriters to anoint a successor. Their choice Willie Mays. While a quick look at the stats is impressive (the Giants outfielder was the ultimate five-tool player He could hit, hit for power, run, field, and throw), many believe what separated Mays from the others was his sheer baseball intelligence. In topping the survey, the Say Hey Kid beat out some pretty fair competition Hank Aaron, ted williams, and Sandy Koufax, in that order. Wired News
