The award is named for Jason Varitek, the career leader at Georgia Tech (1991-94) in Games Played (253), AB 9914(, Hits (351), Doubles (82), Runs (261), RBI (251), Total Bases (610), IBB (303), SF (15), and Home Runs (57). Also a successful student at Georgia Tech, he is currently the starting catcher for the Boston Red Sox. A member of Team USA and a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, in 2000 Mark batted .427 in 241 at bats. he scored 104 runs and drive in 80. 18 of his 103 hits were round trippers.
