Ryan Nolan is a reporter for FOX 11 Sports. Before coming to Green Bay, Ryan worked at KWQC -TV in Davenport, Iowa, as a sports reporter/photographer. There he covered everything from minor league baseball, the PGA Tour (John Deer Classic), Bix 7, University of Iowa - Illinois athletics and the Little League World Series. Ryan says that meeting people from all different walks of life and telling their stories is the best part of a sports reporter's job. Prior to working in the Quad Cities, Ryan worked in Durango, Colorado and Farmington, New Mexico. Ryan's parents could not have known at the time of their son's birth that his name would later be confused with that of the Major League Baseball Hall of Famer, Nolan Ryan. Coincidentally, baseball turned out to be Ryan's first love. And of course, he was a pitcher. Ryan grew up in DeForest, Wisconsin, just north of Madison. He played baseball and basketball through high school and went on to play baseball at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. Ryan earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree there in Radio/TV/Film. He says it's great to be back in the Badger state and root for the teams of his youth.

What even needs to be said about the indominable Nolan Ryan? He was the most dominant pitcher that Major League Baseball has ever seen. He carried a consistently hot baseball in his pocket for over 20 years...often topping 100 MPH with his fastball...then frightening even veterans with his stifling curve. Nolan threw 7 no-hitters in his Hall-of-Fame tenure, while setting the record for most strikeouts in a career. He has the biggest and most loyal fan-following of any player to have ever played the game...and all the merchandise we have is limited edition. What more could you ask for...it even comes with our Just the Proof authenticity, and a certificate from the Nolan Ryan Foundation to boot.
Here's to one of the best, ever.

Nolan Ryan Fullname : Nolan Lynn Ryan
Born : 1/31/47 in Refugio, Texas Debut: Pos : P Ht: Wt B: T: R Years Games IP W L Sv SO ERA By Rob Olds Nolan Ryan, one of the most dominating and intimidating pitchers the game has ever seen, enjoyed the longest career of any player in major league history. He was drafted by the New York Mets in the 10th round of the June 1965 free agent draft and, like most power pitchers, had trouble mastering his high octane fastball. His first few years in baseball were marred by frustration due to a lack of consistency in his throwing routine. The Mets used him mostly out of the bullpen and allowed him to start occasionally. At the conclusion of the 1971 season, Ryan had a mediocre 29-38 record along with a 3.58 ERA in 105 games (74 starts) with the Mets and, as a result, was traded to the California Angels (along with pitcher Don Rose, catcher Francisco Estrada, and outfielder Leroy Stanton) for Jim Fregosi on December 10. A change of scenery was all Ryan needed to prove to his critics that he had what it took to succeed at the major league level. He would go on to win 138 games for the Angels, throw 4 no-hitters, win 7 American League strikeout titles in 8 seasons, and lead the league in shutouts twice. After the 1979 campaign, Ryan left the Angels after setting franchise records for wins, strikeouts (2,416), complete games (156), and shutouts (40). He led the Halos to their first ever divisional title in 1979.

30. The Baseball Guru - The Greatness Of Nolan Ryan By Rob Olds

http://baseballguru.com/articles/analysisrobolds01.html
The Greatness of Nolan Ryan I have been a baseball fan since 1977. The first memory I have of watching baseball on TV was during the World Series that year. The Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees , I would later learn as I educated myself on the subject of baseball history, were facing each other in the Fall Classic for the first time since 1963. That year, the Dodgers, behind the pitching of Sandy Koufax Johnny Podres , and Don Drysdale , swept the Bronx Bombers. The '77 Series, however, marked the birth of "Mr. October", as Reggie Jackson slugged three home runs on three successive pitches in Game 6 to clinch the Series for the Yanks. Less than two years later, on July 13, 1979 , I watched the Yankees on Sunday Night Baseball. They were facing a 32-year old fireballer named Nolan Ryan . That night, he nearly threw his fifth career no-hitter without his best stuff. He "settled" for his 7th one-hitter while striking out 9 in a 6-1 victory. It was this type of performance by the Ryan Express that helped him gain the respect of his peers and the adulation of millions of baseball fans all over the country. Every fifth day, fans came to the ballpark to see if Ryan was going to add another milestone to the baseball record books and a notch to his no-hitter belt. Nearly a decade after his retirement, and only two-and-a-half years after his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, the name Nolan Ryan surprisingly draws the ire of some of his detractors. Just recently, I encountered some baseball "fans" on an Internet message board that expressed their beliefs that Ryan shouldn't be called a "great" pitcher. They also stated that no-hitters weren't "special". All they do, these "fans" stated, was make a good baseball story.

Lynn Nolan Ryan, Jr. was born January 31, 1947, in Refugio, Texas; the youngest of six. He grew up playing Little League baseball, his father coaching, and later played in high school. It was there that a Mets scout saw him and signed him to play rookie ball in Virginia. Nolan's flaming fastball caused many problems when he pitched; namely lack of control and painful blisters on his fingers which caused him to be skipped in the Mets' rotation. Soaking his fingers in pickle brine helped the blisters, carefulness helped the loss of control. His first claim to fame was earning a save in the 1969 World Series, game 3, which the Mets eventually won. However the lack of control and too many walks led him to be traded to the California Angels in 1970 along with 3 other players for Jim Fregrosi. Nolan's tenure with the Angels caused him to shine. he set the single-season strikeout record in 1973 with 383 and threw 4 no-hitters. Unfortunately the Angels were an incredibly mediocre team. In 1980, Nolan packed his bags to go back home to Texas, where he signed baseball's first $1 million contract with the Houston Astros. Ryan kept it going in Houston, consistantly striking out 200+ batters and throwing his record 5th no-hitter in 1981. In 1987 he led the league in earned run average. Then in 1992 Nolan was asked to take a pay cut. His response sign with the Texas Rangers to put the perfect end to his amazing career.

Lynn Nolan Ryan Jr. was born on January 31, 1947 in Refugio, Texas. When Nolan was six weeks old, his family moved to Alvin, Texas where he grew up and still resides today with his wife of 35 years, Ruth, also a native of Alvin. In 1965, after graduating from Alvin High School, Nolan signed a professional baseball contract with the New York Mets, and was assigned to rookie-league ball in Marion, Virginia. Three years later he was pitching in the major leagues, debuting with the Mets in 1968. Thus began his illustrious 27-year big league career, which included four teams - the Mets, California Angels, Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. During his career, which spanned four decades, Nolan set or eclipsed 51 major league pitching records, including seven no-hitters and 5,714 career strikeouts. Along with his many on-field accomplishments, Nolan has the unique distinction of being the only player in major league history to have his uniform number retired by three different teams - the Angels, Astros and Rangers. On January 5, 1999, the Baseball Writers Association of America awarded Nolan the ultimate recognition when he was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, by 98.79 percent of the vote, second highest of all time. Also in 1999, baseball fans across America voted Nolan to the All-Century Team. Following his retirement, Nolan was able to further pursue his business ventures. He is the majority owner and Chairman of the Board of The Express Bank in Alvin and Danbury, Texas, and owns Nolan Ryan's Waterfront Restaurant and Bass Inn near Three Rivers, Texas. Nolan also owns and operates several cattle ranches in South Texas. In May of 1998, he joined his son Reid and a group of investors in bringing a professional baseball franchise to Central Texas by purchasing the Jackson (Miss.) Generals, a Houston Astros Double-A affiliate, and moved the team to Round Rock, Texas.
