Frank Robinson
Frank Robinson Frank Robinson Frank Robinson was one of Baseball's great "gamers." As Rookie of the Year in 1956 and the only man ever named MVP in both leagues (with the Reds in 1961 and the Orioles in 1966), he developed a reputation as an aggressive outfielder and hard-charging baserunner. Also a feared hitter, Robinson ranks fourth on the all-time home run list with 586, trailing only Hank Aaron Babe Ruth and Willie Mays . His intelligence and leadership helped him become the major leagues' first African-American field manager in 1975, when he skippered the Cleveland Indians. Did you know ... that Frank Robinson's high school teams boasted great talent: he played baseball with future major leaguers Curt Flood and Vada Pinson and basketball with NBA Hall of Famer Bill Russell? FRANK ROBINSON BASEBALL'S DEAN OF DISCIPLINE.(vice president of on-field operations - Major League Baseball)(Brief Article) Author/s: Issue: August, 2000 Hall of Famer is making a point that he means business DURING his playing days, Frank Robinson was considered to be, more than anything else, a ballplayer's ballplayerone who was hard-nosed, dedicated and a student of the game who respected it to the utmost. It's that same spirit that he has brought to the front office as he proceeds on a mission to preserve the integrity of the game as baseball's vice president of on-field operations. One of the primary duties of the job that he took during the off-season is to maintain order, including dealing with players who participate in on-field brawls. And it didn't take long for the Hall of Famer to show that there's a new sheriff in townand he means business.
