Where Are They Now? Former Twins Star Kirby Puckett.(baseball player)(Interview) Author/s: John Henderson Issue: Nov, 2000 Despite losing sight in his right eye, ex-batting champ continues to play a role in the game as Minnesota's executive vice president IT'S DISTRACTING AT FIRST. YOU CAN'T really take your eye off the eye. It's partially closed with kind of a clear, pink tint to it, like David Carradine's character in the old "Kung Fu" series. Everything else about Kirby Puckett looks the same. It's as though he went from that historic game-winning homer in the 1991 World Series straight down the hallway toward his Minnesota Twins office on Kirby Puckett Place. His shoulders are as broad as one of Minnesota's lakes.

Induction Speeches
Kirby Puckett
Transcript of Kirby Puckett's speech, August 5, 2001: Bud Selig: Kirby Puckett. Minnesota Twins, American League, 1984 to 1995. A proven team leader with an ever present smile, an infectious exuberance. Who led the Minnesota Twins to World Series Championships in 1987 and 1991. Over 12 seasons he hit for power and average, batting .318 with 414 doubles, 207 home runs. Also a prolific run producer. Scored 1,071 runs, drove in 1,085 runs in 1783 games. A six time Gold Glove winner who patrolled center field with elegance and style. Routinely scaling outfield walls to take away home runs. The ten time All-Star career ended prematurely because of an unfortunate eye problem. Welcome to Cooperstown, Kirby. Kirby Puckett: Before I get to a few words I have prepared, I would like to thank Commissioner Selig, the organizers here at the Hall of Fame, and all of these great players for being here with me today. Particularly my fellow inductees, Dave Winfield, Mr. Mazeroski, himself, and to the family of Hilton Smith. I am overwhelmed by the number of great fans who traveled all of the way from Minnesota or wherever you came from. You are the best. I also see some of my former teammates out there. It's awesome that you guys took the time to be with me today. When I asked my family for advice about my talk today, they were quick to tell me to keep it short. So I will. The only problem I have with that request is the time I need to thank all of the people who have helped me get here today. Because you don't get where I am today without help from a lot of people.

KIRBY PUCKETT
When Kirby Puckett Collected Ten Hits in Two Days! By 1987 Kirby Puckett had established himself as one of the game's best players, and also one of the most exciting. In late August he put on a show over two days that had never been seen in baseball annals. On Saturday, August 29th against the Brewers in Milwaukee, Puckett led his team to victory with four hits in five trips to the plate, including two home runs. The following day he picked up where he left off, both with the bat and his glove. Puckett stroked an RBI single in the first inning, hit his 20th homer in the third, singled in the fifth, slapped a double in the sixth, and doubled again in the eighth to set up the go-ahead rally. But his glove work did as much to deliver the Twin victory as any of his remarkable hitting. With the Twins leading 5-3 in the sixth, the Brewers loaded the bases and
