All About Me! In case you might be curious (and even if you're not), here's a bit of information about the webmaster (web mistress?) for the Michael Cole Mussina web site. I am Shelley, and I've been a Mike Mussina fan since 1995 specifically, September 6, 1995, when his former Baltimore Oriole teammate Cal Ripken, Jr. broke Lou Gehrig's consecutive games played streak. I "discovered" Mike in the midst of all the excitement and hype over Ripken's streak and record-breaking game. I'm one of those very rare creatures who became a baseball fan after the 1994 strike; prior to 1995, baseball was merely a way for me to pass the time in the summer until the beginning of football season. (I've been a football fan pretty much since birth it remains my favorite sport, with baseball a very close second.) But I watched all of the Orioles' games during the week preceding Ripken's record-breaking game because of their historical significance, and Mike happened to be the starting pitcher for Ripken’s 2,131st game. Even though it was Ripken's night to shine, I found myself more interested in the pitcher than the (iron) man of the hour. I must confess that Mike's good looks are what first made me notice him. Yes, I know that's shallow and sexist...but I knew very little about baseball at the time, and hey, Mike is quite easy on the eyes!
