I just stumbled across your site today. I'm thinking of creating my own baseball website and was seeing what the Geocities/Yahoo! sites looked like when I found yours. Lynn was my favorite player when I was a child and I remain loyal to the Red Sox to this day. I collected his cards and, if you
are still updating this site, I'll try to send some photos to you. I got to meet Freddie about ten years ago. He appeared for an autograph session at a shop where I worked. I had one of his game used bats, which he signed for me. I still have it. Anyway, here are a couple of additional items I can remember about Lynn's career. In addition to his All-Star Game grand slam in Chicago, Lynn hit three other All-Star homers. If my memory serves me correctly, he hit one in Philadelphia in '76, another in Seattle in '79 and one in Los Angeles in '80. I may have the years or locations confused, but I know Freddie hit
four A-S homers. (His four career All-Star game homers might be second all-time? Somebody hit six. Mays or Musial, maybe?) He was also named MVP of the American League Championship Series. I think the year was 1982. He was with the Angels, who lost to the Brewers that season.

BEST OUTFIELD EVER?
1975-1980 Boston Red Sox: Jim Rice, Fred Lynn and Dwight Evans Based on talent, career-length, and final numbers, this trio may be the best ever. Rice and Lynn both won MVP awards, and Evans finished in the top five twice and top ten two other times. Rice was the youngest, but his career ended first. Evans was the oldest and retired last. Lynn seemed to be headed for the Hall of Fame, but injuries and his unfulfilled 30s seem to have placed him third in line for that honor. Evans went on to have tremendous value after his 30th birthday, winning a home run title, driving in 100 runs four times, and walking at least 90 times on six occasions. Of course none of that matters, because by that time Lynn was gone. The Sox lost Lynn in the 1980 off-season after they failed to tender him a contract in time. He agreed to be traded to the Angels rather than sue for free agency, and the trio was split up. Rice and Evans would continue to produce big numbers for six more seasons in Boston (Rice often DHing). Together at a young age, the group won the 1975 pennant and nearly snuck into the post-season in 1978 after having blown a double-digit lead to the Yankees, but the lack of success was not their fault. Rice was the best hitter in the league from 1977-1979; Lynn was the best center fielder in baseball when he didn't hurt himself by running into walls; and Evans was a solid right fielder with an

Boston Red Sox TEAM HISTORY
The Boston American League franchise has been one of the most successful over the years. However, the team has been unable to garner a championship since 1918. Some have blamed the Curse of the Bambino that is the regrettable sale of Babe Ruth to the Yankees . A more accurate reason has been the lack of Red Sox pitching and some poor luck. Four times since sending Ruth to New York, the Sox have failed to win a Game Seven in the World Series. In 1948 and 1978 Boston lost the flag in a playoff, and on three other occasions they succumbed on the final day of the regular season, each time to the hated Yankees. Yet the Red Sox have boasted some of baseball's greatest hitters, many of them outfielders. The inviting short wall in left field has resulted in many sluggers piling up home run totals. Unfortunately the same has been true for Boston's opponents, and the Sox pitching staff has often been haunted by "The Green Monster." The early Red Sox were known as the Americans and Somersets briefly before settling on Pilgrims. The Pilgrims appeared in the first "modern" World Series, in 1903. In that Series veteran hurler Cy Young (the greatest pitcher in Boston history) helped the team past Pittsburgh. Boston repeated as AL champs in 1904 but John McGraw's Giants refused to face them in a post-season playoff.
