Find out what Fred had to say in the full transcript of his chat below. Chat Host: Please welcome the only player to ever receive MVP and Rookie of the Year honors in the same season Fred Lynn! Fred Lynn: Hello, sports world! I'm ready for some questions. Chat Host: Great! Here's your first question... Question: Besides Fenway, what was your favorite ballpark? Fred Lynn: My favorite ballpark other than Fenway would have to be Wrigley Field for two reasons. One, I'm from Chicago, but I was raised in Southern California. And as a kid, I visited the park. And two, as a player, I loved to play there... It's really a great park where the fans are practically on top of the stadium looking down on the field. Question: Will the Red Sox ever get better?

Fred Lynn Graced Baseball Digest's Cover 25 Years Ago.(Brief Article) Author/s: Issue: Nov, 2000 TWENTY-FIVE YEARS HAVE PASSED SINCE FRED Lynn enjoyed a phenomenal rookie season for the Boston Red Sox and appeared on our cover for the first time (November 1975). In 1975, Lynn helped lead the Red Sox to the American League pennant, but Boston lost Game 7 of the '75 World Series to the Cincinnati Reds. He hit .331 with 21 homers, 105 RBI and league-leading totals in runs scored (103), doubles (47) and slugging percentage (.566). Lynn became the only player in major league history to win his league's Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year Awards in the same season.

Year In Review All-Star Game Mini Menu Box Score 1983 Box Score Navigation Next Classic Previous Classic "If you don't think you're out, read the morning paper. - Bill McGowan T he American League followed one of their worst All-Star performances with one of the greatest efforts ever by either side. It was the 50th Anniversary of the All-Star Game and the American League decided to make it a real celebration. A fter three decades of disappointment and eleven consecutive losses, the American League took the field with a vengeance and dominated the National League for nine straight innings. A seven-run third inning (all seven charged to Atlee Hammaker) gave the American League a 9-1 lead and that seemed safe even for the junior circuit. T he star player of the game was Fred Lynn, whose grand slam in the third was the first in All-Star history. National League manager Whitey Herzog had ordered Robin Yount, the preceding batter, walked intentionally, which turned out not to be a good idea. "I take it personally," Lynn said later. By '83, Lynn had four home runs and ten runs batted in with twenty All-Star at-bats. Only Ted Williams had a higher All-Star RBI count, with twelve in forty-six at-bats. Stan Musial had ten runs batted in, but in sixty-three at-bats. Lynn's four homers tied him with Williams for the American League lead. The loss left the National League shell-shocked. They were no longer invincible.
