"THE WHITE SOX AT COMISKEY"
April 17, 1956 - Opening Day at Comiskey Park, Billy Pierce vs. Bob Lemon. Sox beat Cleveland before 16,773. Jim Busby HR for Tribe. Managers Marty Marion and Al Lopez.
June 27, 1956 - Red Sox at Comiskey. Boston wins slugfest, 11-9. Chicago reliever Dixie Howell hits first ML homer! Third baseman Fred Hatfield also connects for Pale Hose!
May 5, 1957 - Red Hot White Sox are 11-2 so far in '57 and over 41,000 pack in to see first Yankee invasion of the year! But Johnny Kucks twirls 3-0 three-hitter vs. Jack Harshman in this 2nd game as Yanks sweep doubleheader.
June 11, 1957 - The Sox are back in first place by five games when Yanks return, and huge crowd witnesses tremendous first inning Mickey Mantle HR to dead centerfield! Sox are in classic "Go-Go" mood, and big argument follows Minoso's attempted steal of home! Despite Sox hustle, Yanks squeak by and win, 3-2.
Sunday, July 14, 1957 (2nd game DH) - Dick Donovan can't hold 4-0 Sox 9th inning lead for DH sweep vs. Yanks and Whitey Ford. With Jim Wilson in relief, Bill Skowron pinch-hits a grand slam homer to bring Yanks 6-4 comeback win!

All-Star Game
Memorial Stadium
Baltimore
The preview to the '57 game is a look at the individual players selected for both squads, including close-up or action shots of each, taken during the first half of the season or from the '56 All-Star Game the year before.
Most of the game action is packed into the ninth inning. In the top of the frame, the A.L. expands its 3-2 lead to 6-2, but the Nationals come roaring back to come within a run in the bottom half. Minnie Minoso of the White Sox, who drives in the winning run with a double, is the star of the game, with two came-saving ninth-inning plays in the 6-5 American League victory.
After Vice-President Richard Nixon throws out the first ball, American League starter Bob Turley gives up all three N.L. runs during the first two innings. After that however, A.L. hurlers dominate, especially Billy O'Dell of the hometown Orioles, who pitches three perfect innings to close out the game for a 4-3 American League win. Nellie Fox has two hits, while Mantle, Cerv, Malzone, Triandos, Ray Narleski, Mickey Vernon, Mays, Skinner, Thomas and Musial have one apiece.
You can get the highlights from both these games, now available all on one video for the first time ever! Send $29.95 plus $5.00 shipping (Illinois residents must add $2.00 sales tax) to:

THE NATIONAL BASEBALL HALL OF FAME
GETS A GRAND SLAM By Andre Morrison
1, 2, 3, everybody... T ake me out to the ball game - Take me out to the crowd - Buy me some peanuts and Crackerjacks - I don't care if I ever get back B ack, that's exactly what Tommy Lasorda, Phil Niekro, Nellie Fox, and Willie Wells are back at the plate in Coopersown, New York. These all-time greats converged in this scenic community to esteem the 1997 Hall of Fame inductees. The Induction Ceremony was held on August 3 at Clark Sports Center for the 58th consecutive year. Knuckleball great Phil Niekro, the 1997 electee of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA), was honored as well as Veterans Committee electees Tommy Lasorda, Nellie Fox, and Willie Wells. In addition, veteran New York and Pittsburgh sportswriter Charley Feeney, was honored during the ceremony with the J.G. Taylor Spink Award. "If Nellie were here, I think he might say, 'why all the fuss?' " said Joanne Fox, widow of Nellie Fox. "As a beautiful bouquet of flowers can brighten, so can memories of time." she continued. Lasorda added "When you honor me here, you honor my family, you honor the organization I have represented for 48 years."
