Editorial Review Product Description New manufacturing technologies have made possible the integration of entire systems on a single chip. This new design paradigm, termed system-on-chip (SOC), together with its associated manufacturing problems, represents a real challenge for designers. SOC is also reshaping approaches to test and validation activities. These are beginning to migrate from the traditional register-transfer or gate levels of abstraction to the system level. Until now, test and validation have not been supported by system-level design tools so designers have lacked the infrastructure to exploit all the benefits stemming from the adoption of the system level of abstraction. Research efforts are already addressing this issue. This monograph provides a state-of-the-art overview of the current validation and test techniques by covering all aspects of the subject including: |

Editorial Review Product Description The Practical, Start-to-Finish Guide to Modern Digital Design Verification As digital logic designs grow larger and more complex, functional verification has become the number one bottleneck in the design process. Reducing verification time is crucial to project success, yet many practicing engineers have had little formal training in verification, and little exposure to the newest solutions. Hardware Design Verification systematically presents today's most valuable simulation-based and formal verification techniques, helping test and design engineers choose the best approach for each project, quickly gain confidence in their designs, and move into fabrication far more rapidly. College students will find that coverage of verification principles and common industry practices will help them prepare for jobs as future verification engineers. Author William K. Lam, one of the world's leading experts in design verification, is a recent winner of the Chairman's Award for Innovation, Sun Microsystems' most prestigious technical achievement award. Drawing on his wide-ranging experience, he introduces the foundational principles of verification, presents traditional techniques that have survived the test of time, and introduces emerging techniques for today's most challenging designs. Throughout, Lam emphasizes practical examples rather than mathematical proofs; wherever advanced math is essential, he explains it clearly and accessibly. Coverage includes Simply put, Hardware Design Verification will help you improve and accelerate your entire verification process--from planning through tape-out--so you can get to market faster with higher quality designs. Editorial Review Product Description The exponential increase in transistor density on computer chips, supporting Moore¿s law now for four decades, poses new design challenges to engineers and computer scientists alike. New techniques for managing complexity must be developed if circuits are to take full advantage of the vast numbers of transistors available. This book investigates both the design of high-level languages for hardware description and techniques involved in translating these high-level languages to silicon. The author introduces the first-order functional language SAFL, designed specifically for behavioral hardware description, and describes the implementation of its associated silicon compiler. Finally, the SAFL language is extended with pi-calculus style channels and channel passing and primitives for structural-level circuit description. The semantics of these languages is formalized and results are presented arising from the generation of real hardware exploiting these techniques. This monograph is based on the author¿s PhD work conducted at the Computer Laboratory of the University of Cambridge, UK, under the supervision of Dr. Alan Mycroft. |

For ages 5 and under If you want to learn aboutcomputer architecture, I would recommend: "Computer Architecture: AQuantitative Approach" by John Hennessy and David Patterson.
A comfortable and well-written read It is a well-balanced book suitable for both IT students and those working in the industry who want to know what goes on in PCs and system servers. The cleanlayout, the sequence of information presentation and the author's writingstyle makes this diffcult topic a joy to read about. Some criticism -the presentation of numbers could be reduced, the appendices on logic couldbe expanded and a chapter on client-server architecture would be the icingon the cake. Another worthy book but a bit dry is 'Silberschatz et al.'.Check it out before you buy.
Too much useless detail, not enough context
This book is crappy..I use it for a course
Practice questions without giving any answers! Also, I would say that although Irv'swriting style is readable it is wordy. It would be a much better book ifthere was a summary section following each section of each chapter. And ifthe damn answers were in there! ... Read more |
