Chapters: Mame, Uae, Windows Virtual Pc, Multi Emulator Super System, Mac 68k Emulator, Connectix Virtual Game Station, Vmac, Disk Copy, Sixtyforce, Palm Os Emulator, Macwise. Excerpt:Windows GUI of Virtual Game Station The Virtual Game Station (VGS) was an emulator by Connectix that allows Sony PlayStation games to be played on a desktop computer . It was first released for the Macintosh , in 1999. VGS was created by Aaron Giles . The recompiling CPU emulator was written by Eric Traut . Released at a time when the Sony PlayStation was at its peak of popularity, Virtual Game Station was the first PlayStation emulator, for any platform, that enabled games to run at full speed on modest computer hardware, and the first that supported the vast majority of PlayStation games. It was advertised to run at full speed on the original iMac G3 /233 MHz system (relying on its built-in ATi graphics hardware), and in some cases it was able to run on 200 MHz 604e systems reasonably well. The impact of this product was huge as it changed the available Macintosh game library from a very small, select group to nearly the entire collection of Playstation games. Graphics could be run full screen, at full speed. Several Playstation-type hand controllers became available with VGS in mind. The only lacking features were the ability to receive Dual-Shock force-feedback or use light-guns. VGS was initially released for NTSC based Playstation games but later versions were made for PAL based games. Like the PS1, only games released for the selected VGS system could be run, copied games would not work either, although it didn't take too long for the hacker community to release a "Mod Chipped" version. Versions 1.1 and 1.2 of VGS attempted to make "modding" more difficult but were soon modded as well. VGS proved to... ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Commo is a telecommunications program which was written and maintained from 1989 to 1998 by Fred P. Brucker. It was a macro-driven package and could be customized by the user. The program, written in optimized assembly language and distributed as shareware, was small and fast. The macro language used by Commo was simple, with assembly language-like statements surrounded by curly braces. It offered the ability to control most aspects of the terminal. The program's macro and configuration files were free-form text which could be edited with any text editor. This led to popularity among those who wanted to be able to configure the program. Fred Brucker actively provided support for screen readers to work with COMMO, which made it a popular program for the visually impaired. The Powermacros add-on made COMMO one of the first Trade Wars 2002 'helper' programs. MacroBBS was a Bulletin board system system written entirely out of COMMO macros. ... Read more

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Multi Emulator Super System (MESS) is an emulator for many game consoles and computer systems, based on the MAME core. The primary purpose of MESS is to preserve decades of computer and console history. As technology continues to progress, MESS prevents these vintage systems from being lost and forgotten. MESS emulates portable and console gaming systems, computer platforms and calculators. The project strives for accuracy and portability and therefore is not always the fastest emulator for any one particular system. However, its accuracy makes it useful for homebrew game development, for example on the Atari 7800. ... Read more

Excerpt: SWGEmu ( the Star Wars Galaxies Emulation Project ) is an open source community project aimed to develop, maintain and expand a free Pre-CU-era Star Wars Galaxies server software set. The goal of the SWGEmu Team is to provide a complete software solution that is effective and accurate in recreating a Star Wars Galaxies service once provided by Sony Online Entertainment. The SWGEmu Team runs a number of services to benefit its community, and assist in development. With a registered member base of over eighty thousand and growing, SWGEmu handles thousands of users daily across the Network; consisting of a Web and Forum service, IRC Chat service, Public Test Center service and Open Source Development services. The Nova Test Center server, funded by SWGEmu community donations, remains an essential part of the project's development. The SWGEmu Developers use the Test Center to find and fix bugs that may only arise when large numbers of players are using the server. Daily population on the TC has steadily grown since its launch, the Test Center now idles around ~900 players on weeknights. The Community Service team, created during the staff expansion in mid 2008, handle live support via IRC chat and in-game (much like most commercial online games today). Upon completion of the test cycle and the release of v1.0, SWGEmu plans on hosting an official live server which will be called Suncrusher. In addition, players will be able to host and run their own independent servers. The project opened to much fanfare and began to gain in popularity. Product Description
A Bulletin Board System, or BBS, is a computer system running software that allows users to connect and log in to the system using a terminal program. Once logged in, a user can perform functions such as uploading and downloading software and data, reading news and bulletins, and exchanging messages with other users, either through electronic mail or in public message boards. Many BBSes also offer on-line games, in which users can compete with each other, and BBSes with multiple phone lines often provide chat rooms, allowing users to interact with each other.Originally BBSes were accessed only over a phone line using a modem, but by the early 1990s some BBSes allowed access via a Telnet, packet switched network, or packet radio connection. The term "Bulletin Board System" itself is a reference to the traditional cork-and-pin bulletin board often found in entrances of supermarkets, schools, libraries or other public areas where people can post messages, advertisements, or community news. ... This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A277193. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: This thesis details the engineering, design and implementation of a real-time, distributed, application emulator system (AE system). The project had two main goals for the tool: emulation of real-time distributed systems, and as a programmable resource consumer. The AE system is currently being used in the HiPer-D test bed to activate a resource leveling tool that monitors several software components for real-time response. The AE system is highly flexible and can be used in the context of a variety of network topologies and system loading options. The results presented show that the AE system can also emulate distributed systems. ... Read more

Excerpt: QEMU is a processor emulator that relies on dynamic binary translation to achieve a reasonable speed while being easy to port on new host CPU architectures. In conjunction with CPU emulation, it also provides a set of device models, allowing it to run a variety of unmodified guest operating systems; it can thus be viewed as a hosted virtual machine monitor. It also provides an accelerated mode for supporting a mixture of binary translation (for kernel code) and native execution (for user code), in the same fashion as VMware Workstation and Microsoft Virtual PC. QEMU can also be used purely for CPU emulation for user level processes; in this mode of operation it is most similar to Valgrind. One feature exclusive to QEMU is that of portability: the virtual machines can be run on any PC, even those where the user has only limited rights with no administrator access, making the 'PC-on-a-USB-stick' concept very real. Similar applications exist (such as MojoPac) but they currently require administrator rights to run, making them useless in areas such as public libraries, internet cafes, and so on. QEMU was written by Fabrice Bellard and is free software. Specifically, the QEM...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1465669 ... Read more
