4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Beginier to Advanced
I really love the book. I have it in my Web Programming Library in my office and use it almost daily for reference. My one complaint.... hard to look up anything. I find my self really searching through the book when Iam looking for one in particular example or answer. All-in-all GREAT bookthough

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best CGI programming book EVER!
When I picked up this book, I could not believe it!It is the best CGI programming book ever. It's just perfect for someone like me, I know about seven programming languages already, and wanted to learn CGI.I haven'thad the book four hours and already my first script is working perfectly! I'd rate it a billion stars, but this form won't let me go that high!

2-0 out of 5 stars I could not find the any addresses of pub or Author.
In the CD ROM the following are not included:require "FormData.pl"; require "ctime.pl"; The problem is the book doesn't have any e-mail address nor any kind of addresses for questions.I find that to be not very good.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Stop Learning for the Web Professional
As a professional web designer, I needed to learn CGI fast. This book brought me up to speed on CGI, Perl, and the concepts that tie them together. My first real scripts were up in the same week that I bought the book

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction to CGI & Perl
Bravo! This book is very well done.

Complete, easy to read, and very helpful, this book is loaded with useful insights. Steve Lines' pragmatic approach leads the reader from clearly presented concepts to well-implemented programming examples. The code he provides can easily be transplanted and used in many CGI applications. The included CD-ROM works on all platforms (Macintosh users are often left out!) and contains several important web development tools.

By no means is this text simply for beginners, although they will benefit the most from it.

Overall, this book is the very best resource available for developers of dynamic web pages ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great animation book
The book has all the things i need to know for a beginner.I find this book easy to read, very helpful with lot's of illustrations/examples and the computer models are useful to practice the animation after reading it.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on animation I've ever read!
I've bought a lot of books on 3D animation over the years and most of them are either full of information that I don't need (how to build sky scrapers or how to spin my name in letters) or don't have anywhere near enough information on how to animate (usually only one chapter).
This book has everything I need to learn how to animate!
It starts by showing how to do an exercise using 2D traditional skills and then goes on to do the same exercise in 3D (if you want to skip the 2D bit and just do the 3D, that seems to work fine). Most employers today want to see evidence of traditional animation training and this book gives you all that!
It covers everything; weight and balance, timing, walks, birds, fish, snakes, four legged animals, acting and lip-synch.
I'd rate this book with Richard Williams' The Animator's Survival kit. In other words one of those books that every animator should have.

So if you want to learn how to animate or if you want to improve your 3D skills, buy this book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book
If you know PERL or are familiar with programming languages and are looking for a good book on PERL and CGI with lots of examples, this is the one. It's a great little book that's easy to follow.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very poorly edited
The overall idea of Kevin Hanegan's book is a good one. An appreciation of CGI Scripting using Perl from the basics up to a couple of real world examples is exactly what anyone new to authoring CGI scripts would want from such a book.
Unfortunately, the text seems to have been written in one go and never checked as the litany of glaring errors, most noticeably in the examples, testify. I was fortunate to be coming at the book from a background in Unix and 'C', so some of the mistakes were glaringly obvious but a complete beginner would struggle to get the building blocks together to be able to make a real go of it.
I used this as my first port of call into Perl scripting but soon found myself using resources on the web as I stopped trusting what was written on the pages. Perhaps there is a second edition with the errors corrected, unfortunately, I haven't got it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Easy to follow examples.Great for a beginner to learn CGI.Learn the language by the end of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book!!!!!!!!!!!
Great book - I am a beginner and was able to learn with relative ease.I knew Mr. Hanegan in high school and it is no surprise to me that he was capable of writing such a fine manual.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best CGI Book
I am a beginner and this book was very helpful.Author did a fantastic job. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Book Review
This book is wonderful and is the best resource book for Cinematic job information that I've seen yet.It is a must have!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Encyclopedic
As far as I know there are two books on the subject - the other being Eric Taub's "Gaffers, Grips and Best Boys". From those two Hines' book is the more encyclopedic one. It is well structured into chapters preceeded by organigrams showing the job dependencies. All jobs featured - although it's the more complete approach of both books, don't expect the book to contain every movie job - are precisely described with pre-, production and post-production duties. If you need 'technical' and concise information, buy this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for any filmmaker
This is a great book for anyone who has ever wondered what each person in the credits does. This edition is far more comprehensive than others (including associate producer, line producer etc.).It could be a little more comprehensive and better organized if the headers were easier to read and each new job started on a new page. However, I'm an independent filmmaker and it's a valuable resource to have. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Still relevant!
I just purchased this book, I am also a web designer, although it is already outdated the theories presented by the author makes this book relevant to newer versions of HTML etc. This book is still a must fordesigners and a would be CLASSIC!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners
I bought this book after taking on the task of learning *gasp* all of the facets of web programming and design, hoping this would be currentinformation. A lot of it is. If you're still developing and writing HTML inthe 3.0 version. I was surprisingly let down by this part of the Unleashedseries, which is usually known for high quality info. Not that it isn't agood book, it's just out of date. ** Wondering how to get money back now**.. My advice.. keep looking. This one is just not current enough to beuseful for so much of what's new now. Sorry Mr. Stanek, et al.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, but that was 2 years ago.
This book was great when I first started reading it....2 years ago.The author was well organized and very informative in his descriptions. If youwant basic knowledge, and then to expand on present material, this is thebook for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Information is Too Old
Although this book has great content, the information is too outdated.According to this book Java and frames, are not supported by IE. This bookis still teaching HTML 2 and HTML 3 (not 3.2). Don't expect to learn thatmuch about Java and CGI from this book either because it explains what theyare more that it teaches how to create applets and scripts using them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Information in one excellent book
Stanek did something 'heroic'. He wrote an overview in which every topic is written down in a clear and understandable way. The book is not just a summary, but it shows how several 'languages' could be used in web publishing, how to choose for a language, it's pros and cons, and how they can cooperate. It was about time that such a book was written, because many people could be overloaded with information without knowing what to do with it. By buying and reading this book you won't get 'overloaded'. Stanek takes you to a point from where he shows you what the possibilities are, what the differences are and how to make decisions in good design. For newbies and experienced people who are working in the field of webdesign, marketing and programming business a must! (Mr. Stanek, I owe you one..) ... Read more
