Google Chrome is a web browser released by Google which uses the WebKit layout engine and application framework. It was first released as a beta version for Microsoft Windows on 2 September 2008, and the public stable release was on 11 December 2008. The name is derived from the graphical user interface frame, or "chrome", of web browsers. As of 1 November 2009, Chrome was the fourth most widely used browser, with 3.6% of worldwide usage share of web browsers. Development versions of Chrome for Linux and Mac OS X were released in June 2009. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Complete Rip-off!It's just Wikipedia printed on paper.
From what I've seen on amazon, these editors seem to specialize in just printing out Wikipedia sections and charging high prices for them, while concealing the fact that the "book" is just Wikipedia articles.Click on any of the "editors" names to search for all the "books" they've edited that are available here, and you'll see what I mean.

1-0 out of 5 stars Warning
Alphascript Publishing has a big published about 40 000 "books" that are nothing more than a collection of Wikipedia articles. The books retail for between $40 and $100. This is a big price for something that is available for free. Shame on Amazon for stocking them. Often the cover picture does not even match the subject.

Four stars???Dude, you gave four stars for a WIKIPEDIA RIP OFF BOOK???

4-0 out of 5 stars Good read for Web 2.0 solutions
This book is good read to ensure quality Web 2.0 AJAX solutions. This book provides in depth coverage of browser components, threading, garbage collection, memory model etc. And thus facilitates the process of replacing legacy presentation-tier on server with client-tier(JavaScript) in browser. This boook covers css parsing, html parsing, rendering, layout, javascript interaction etc.

This book can be used while creating Rich Internet Applications which pull coarse grained data with services in cloud[-computing]. Although, there are various sections with low level details which I skipped and may be good read for somebody trying to embed/develop browsers.

This book has concise and crisp coverage of inner workings of Firefox components of gecko, spidermonkey, tracemonkey etc. For example how DOM Objects as scriptable XPCOM objects interacts with Javascript using XPConnect. This book details Chrome and Safari's Webkit components of WebCore, JavaScriptCore, V8. This book provides insight into how IE 9 Javascript compiler (Chakra) compiles JavaScript source code into high-quality native machine code etc.

Just because you can make a giant of a friend, doesn't mean you'll have it easy. "The Adventures of Browser & Sequoia" tells the story of a mammoth and his human companion who can talk to him. Through their partnership in these prehistoric times, they find themselves raging against rival clans, hungry sabretooths, and people who are just plain mean. Product Description
Nonfiction. Art. Criticism and Theory. Following the words of Giorgio Agamben (from his 2001 article "On Security and Terror"), security has become the basic principle of international politics after 9/11, and the "sole criterion of political legitimation." But security--reducing plural, spontaneous and surprising phenomena to a level of calculability--also seems to operate against a political legitimacy based on possibilities of dissent, and stands in clear opposition to artistic creativity. Being uncalculable by nature, art is often incompatible with the demands of security and consequently viewed as a "risk," leading to the arrest of artists, and a neutralization of innovative environments for the sake of security. ... Product Description
With a New Preface on the End of the World

Charles Panati, America's favorite gatherer of origins, now offers the last word on how people, places, and things of all sorts have met their ends through the centuries. From famous presidents to frightening epidemics, from ancient extinctions to vanished vogues, from bizarre last wills to the death styles of the rich and renowned, The Browser's Book of Endings presents the amusing, the surprising, and the generally little-known stories behind the terminations of practically everything and everybody. Illustrated with more than 100 drawings, diagrams, and archival photographs, with an extensive reference list and index, this is the most readable and complete compendium of deliciously trivial and profound facts about history's endings.

1. What were Oscar Wilde's last words?
2. What caused the extinction of the Dodo bird?
3. How did Belle Starr meet her death?
4. Who was the last great castrata (castrated male soprano singer)?
5. When was drawing and quartering banned in England?

***

Answers: 1. "I am dying as I've lived: beyond my means." 2. Introduction of Dutch colonials and their animals to Mauritius. 3. Ambushed and shot twice by her son and sometime lover. 4. Giovanni Velluti (1780-1761). 5. 1870. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Death Was Never So Interesting
Charles Panati has always been a fascinating author. His books are typically dedicated to information, mostly about the origin of things. There's his Browser's Book of Beginnings and his Sexy Origins of Intimate Things. But I use this book the most by far when it comes to information I need to know, along with his Sacred Origins of Profound Things. Where as most of his books deal with beginnings, this book deals with endings. There of course origins of instruments of death such as the electric chair and the guillotine, but the whole is concerned with death and the ways it happens. Great for reference and great for just reading. Though at first it is a grim subject, Panati deals with it in such a way, that you could almost read it as humorous yet respectful. Points of interest include last wills and testaments of past presidents and the last words along with cause and description of death with famous figures in history such as Buddha, Joan of Arc, Edgar Allan Poe, and Ludwig van Beethoven. And in reflecting how these monumental people died, we also reflect on how they lived and realize that no one is exempt from death, and that we need to make the most of it, and laugh about it in the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bubblegum For The Brain
All of Panati's books are a good read, just the kind of book you need if you've got a curious mind.

For a rainy day read, or a break from more 'serious' reading, Panati is the choice.Hey, it beats watching television!

Recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Source for the Odd
A great source for all sorts of useless (and not so useless) information on just about anything.Highly recommend to anyone who likes weird stuff.

4-0 out of 5 stars WRY & WITTY & A WONDEFUL WEEKEND READ
Oscar Wilde's last words? What caused the extinction of the Dodo bird? Author Charles Panati has compiled a most fascinating look at the end of practically everything and everybody. Last words of famous folk. Final resting places of the rich and famous. Bequests of dying Presidents. There are all here, in this witty (and highly readable) compendium of all things dead and dying. Think of it as the beginning of the end and you'll finish first. Or is it last? As for the answers to our questions . . .

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Read
Panati reviews all forms of endings, and writes well and frankly---there is much good historical information here, and he touches on little discussed topics!!! ... Read more

Supported protocols are Gopher, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, WAIS, and NNTP. Browsing in Lynx consists of highlighting the chosen link using cursor keys, or having all links on a page numbered and entering the chosen link's number. Current versions support SSL and many HTML features. Tables are linearized (scrunched together one cell after another without tabular structure), while frames are identified by name and can be explored as if they were separate pages. Lynx cannot inherently display various types of non-text content on the web, such as images and video, but it can launch external programs to handle it, such as an image viewer or a video player. Because of its text-to-speechfriendly interface, Lynx was once popular with visually impaired users, but better screen readers have reduced the appeal of this application. Lynx is also used to check for usability of websites in older browsers. It is still included in a number of Unix products and Linux distributions, and is particularly useful for reading documentation or downloading files when only a text-based environment is available. It is also useful for accessing websites from a remotely connected system in which no graphical display is available. Despite its text-only nature and age, it can still be used to effectively browse much of the modern web, including performing interactive tasks such as editing Wikipedia. Excerpt:Developer(s) : AOL LLC AOL Explorer , previously known as AOL Browser , is a graphical web browser based on the Microsoft Trident layout engine and was released by AOL . In July 2005, AOL launched AOL Explorer as a free download and as an optional download with AIM version 5.9. AOL Explorer supports tabbed browsing . Release History In November 2005, the next version, 1.1, was released. Version 1.2 was very similar to version 1.1, but included two new features: Tab Explorer and RSS Widgets from Favorites. When the Tab Explorer button is pressed, a thumbnail preview of each tab is displayed in a full-screen window. The user can click on one of the previews to instantly access the page. Microsoft has implemented a similar feature in their Internet Explorer 7 browser, called "Quick Tabs". Version 1.5 was launched in May 2006, and included many new features such as Desktop Widgets, Visual Themes, a Feeds Screensaver and various performance improvements. Desktop Widgets allow the user to "tear off" a side panel and use it independently from the browser. The panel will remain open and functional, even after one closes AOL Explorer. When ones computer is idle, one can set the AOL Explorer Feeds Screensaver to display the RSS feeds stored in the feeds panel. Another feature new to 1.5 is the Show Page Preview feature, which allows the user to preview a webpage without leaving the current page by simply holding down Ctrl and right-clicking on a link. This feature is especially useful when there are a large amount of links on a page, or when search... ... Read more
