Use the book; chunk the CD
I have not real gripes with book.It is not great; it is not bad.There are not a lot of resources out there to use to study for the OCP Developer exam.This seems to be one of the few resources out there outside of one of the exam prep companies.

I've been in this business more than a few years, and I am used to reading technical manuals and books.This one is especially dry.I really had to crack my internal whip to get after it.

My real gripe is the CD packaged with it.I'm not even all the thru the practice tests and modules and I ready to take it to the skeet range.It is a piece of junk.

Let's start off with the interface.It looks like something coming out of a high school computer class 10 years ago.And the button that says "Guess again" after an incorrect answer is so juvenile.

Then add in the errors, bugs and poor design.My favorite design flaw is where they state after a question "Choose all that apply" then give you radio buttons.Well guess how many can apply!If there is more than one answer they give you check boxes.

More than once I have a question come back as incorrect, look at their explanation text only to have it tell me the one I selected was the correct answer, arrggghhh.

On a few questions the chosen answer was just flat out wrong.I have spent time researching these which is I suppose a good learning exercise, but hopefully that is not what they intended.

Use the book; chunk the CD in the trash.

Need thorough knowledge
I took the test last week but failed with a score of26.Looks like you need to prepare thoroughly and in depth to clear this test. I took by word the other reviews which claimed after studying this book,the test would a cakewalk. It doest seem so and the questions were more tricky and difficult. If you are planning to take ,prepare in depth and be prepared to expect tougher questions than in this book.

Good for 1Z0-147
This book is good for preparing 1Z0-147,which is 2nd paper of OCA.It covers almost 90% of the course.

Very Good Book, Bad CD!
Although this book is a guide for the 1Z0-101 exam, I got it to prepare myself for the 1Z0-147 exam, which I just passed. It covered everything but LOBs and the use of CALL for triggers (topics not supposed to be in the 1Z0-101). So, it is a great book: easy format, very realistic practice exams. The only reason I give it 4 starts instead of 5 is because the CD that cames with it is horrible. The software has a lot of bugs, so it's a waste of time using it. To give you an example, some questions that are intended to have multiple answers, just don't let you chose more than one. Ridiculous!

Book needs to be upgraded to 147
The book is fine and covers almost 80% of the topics of OCP 9i as well. So far little upgradation is required to make it effective for 9i exam papers. The book is wonderfully organized even a novice user can start with the book and take a hold.

Good book but doesnot meet the exam objectives anymore!!
The author did a pretty good job in writing this book. I believe since the book was published Oracle Corporation updated the exam objectives which makes the book not very useful for the exam. The reason I gave 4 stars to the book is it is not the author's fault if the exam objectives were updated. But the author did cover a lot of grounds even though it is not complete. He managed to explain in a few pages the huge exam objectives. He wrote his book according the to published exam objectives avalaible at that time. That is my sense. Just so you know topics like report was not covered in the book. The First part of the book is almost complete but the second is not even closed. Some areas are not covered at all in the book. So just be aware of that.
Having read the book and completed the exercises in the book I thought I was ready. I tried to play with some STS and Transcender demos software on the subject and that is when I become aware that I needed other materials to study for the exams. I supplemented my study with other books and training courses in pdf. I completed my exams with a score (1z0-131 55/60) and (1z0-132 57/60).
Overall the book is well-written. It can be used as a starting point but you would need other materials to supplement your study before taking the exams. I don't regret buying this book. I like it and I am planning to keep it around.

Is the exam guide trust worthy?
I agree with most of the guys that to pass the fourth exam (Build Internet Applications II) you need to prepare more than that is covered by this exam guide. For example it didn't mention a single word about Oracle Report but it did appear in the fourth exam. Even for those part that IS mentioned in this guide, you need to take extra care about the property palette details to pass the exam. Also I'd like to say this book is a bit hard to read, though it did help me to pass my third exam.

Not enough to pass the OCP exam.
This book does not cover the exam topic completely. The second part is nothing. This book could be a good introducing book on Internet application form building, but absolutely not for OCP preparation. This book gave not enough example to build Oracle forms with not clear explanation on important concepts, and usages. Persons get OCP only by this book actually does not learn some of Oracle.

This book is incomplete
This book only covers about 2/3 of the material on the exam. It covers those 2/3 pretty well, but if you use nothing else to prepare for the exam, you will be in for a rude surprise when you take the exam.

There are a handful of errors in the practice tests and some poor explanations, but this is a good book as PART of your preparation for this exam.

First part good but second part not enough
I passed both exams end 2002 using this book and other materials.

It is certainly a good preparation tool for the first exam but it is not enough for the second part. You need 46 correct answers on 60 questions which is one of the highest score needed for an Oracle exam.

For at least 15 questions I had during my exams, the answer could not be found in this book. For some points of the exam Test Content Checklist which can be found on the Oracle web site, there is not even a word in this book.

My advice :
- use this book to have a general understanding of the subject.
- do all the exercices of the book, it's really useful if you don't work with Forms everyday.
- buy youself a Self Test Software. At least 15 questions I had during my exam were simular to the ones you can find in this preparation tool and there are not in the book.
