The Rational Unified Process Made Understandable
In their extremely well-organized and comprehensive book, "IBM Rational Unified Process Reference and Certification Guide: Solution Designer", Ahmad K. Shuja and Jochen Krebs make the Rational Unified Process (RUP) understandable.This book provides both the structure and the detail necessary for IT Practitioners studying for certification, as well as applying RUP in their organizations.The authors succeeded in writing a certification study guide that is a pleasure to read from cover to cover.Their book is my favorite on the Rational Unified Process.I used it to mentor follow IT professionals on RUP, and to integrate our Solution Architecture Practice & Governance disciplines with our RUP-based SDLC discipline.This excellent book continues to serve as my primary reference to RUP.I recommend this book for anyone preparing for the RUP certification exam.I also recommend it for anyone who is serious about applying RUP within their organization.

Thorough, comprehensive, and clear
In a world of lean, agile, etc., large projects and complex organizations still require rigor that is difficult to accomplish with lightweight methods. Although RUP was never intended to be a heavyweight method, misinformed and undereducated RUP users have often misused and abused RUP, counteracting its primary objectives.

Jochen's diverse background and experience offers grounding for presentation of RUP in a pragmatic manner that offers a lot of information in an efficient format. Anyone who is involved in non-trivial projects will be well-served to understand the key elements of RUP to ensure that those projects sufficiently handle critical tasks to reduce project risk. Nice and easy to read
This is a nice and easy book to read; it covers some of the necessaries skills needed to become an effective Test Manager.The combination of certain topics along with the study cases and the exercises made the chapters easy to read and follow.I would recommend this book as a good informational book (I am not sure about preparing you for the test).

This book is an easy read and took what could have been a very heavy load of information and placed it in an easy to read format. The way Rex chose to combine certain topics also made sense. The sample questions at the end of the chapters gave an excellent taste of the exam questions. A very useful source for the ISTQB Advanced Level Test Manager exam
This book can serve as adequate study guide for the ISTQB Advanced Level Test Manager certification.As Editor and one of the authors of the ISTQB Advanced Level syllabus, I can confirm that this book fits the bill.
Of course it is not enough, one book or one vision is never enough to be "Advanced", but it is a very good starting point.
I strongly suggest it to readers, as one book to have on one's shelf of testing reference books.

Are you a test manager? If you are, then this book is for you! Author Rex Black has done an outstanding job of writing the second volume of a book with a focus on the material and learning objectives for the advanced test manager.

Black, begins with an overview of contextual and background material that influences some of the basic aspects of software testing. Next, the author discusses the process of testing and the activities that occur within that process. Then, he discusses test management activities from the start to the end of the text process and introduces the considerations of risk for testing. Best One I've Found
This book presents a manageable amount of information for NREMT-P CBT prep. The other book I got had 400 pages of questions, most of which aren't really pertinent to exam material.

This book also features EXPLANATIONS of the correct answers. That is, why said answer is correct, and why the other answers are wrong. You don't need the AAOS textbook to look up the subject matter so you understand why a certain answer is the right one. This allows you to use the info to actually learn and apply concepts and protocols that will help with test questions not contained in this book.

In my opinion you are better off using a small amount of accurate, pertinent information to "cram" for the exam than try to consume a huge volume of info like many other books present.

Also, the info in this book seems to be a lot more up to date with current treatment protocols, unlike the other book I got.

I test in 6 days. I'll update this review to tell you how it turned out.

...UPDATE - Passed my test in 80 questions flat. Took about 45min. JBLearning has the exact same questions and more. If you are going to buy a review program, go to their website and buy a $40 membership. This book is great, but the website is even better.

It helps my students
As you probably already know (if you are a medic student) the key to passing a test is learning good test taking skills as it is knowing the material. This book helps you with that. I use this book to help my students get ready for their NREMT-P exams. Here is the key:

Take exam 1 and score it. Then, go back and re-study the parts that you did poorly on. Then, go back and take test 2. Keep doing this until you a)run out of exams, or b) score over a 90% on the practice exam. My students do well with this, and 100% of my students who finished my last 3 paramedic courses have passed the NR exam.

This book is an excellent tool, but don't kid yourself: If you don't know the material, you won't do well. This book is a tool to help you, not teach you to be a medic.

Best Preparatory Litterature
This is, hands down, the best and highest reccommended preparatory book for the NREMT-P Exam. It was reccommended by everyone of my lab instructors and Paramedics I knew from the field. I studied it cover to cover with another student from school. The questions are written very similarily to the NR test. Each question has justification for the answers. There is also a section all about each phase of the manipulative portion of the test.

I recommend buying this guide with these case study books to prepare for the Scenario based portion of the test. Medical Case Studies for the Paramedic Trauma Case Studies for the Paramedic

Being able to answer rapid fire scenario based questions from one of your classmates and these study guides provided me with the knowledge and confidence to pass on my first try.

oops!
Oops!I thought I was buying a "new" item from the seller, but when it arrived, the book was not wrapped, looked like it had been read a couple of times, and the cd-rom sleeve was cracked and opened already.I have to say, it did arrive very quickly.

I belive it did help me pass my test on the first attempt.

Great studying tool
I just started studying for the Nationals and really like the way this book is laid out and organized compared to other books I'm using. Plus there are some tips about the nationals and studying that I found useful, as well inspirational quotes that do keep me motivated!

A Must Have
I really enjoyed this book.It was more helpful than the one I purchased from the NCBTMB.It gives thorough information on all subjects presented on the test.I studied (sort of) for two weeks.I passed my exam first try.I took the NCETMB.I think this would be a great review book for school also.

The Plain and Simple Guide to Theraputic Massage and Bodywork cert. is wonderfully easy to learn from with Affirmations that are geared at trying to help you succeed in this very important moment I took the NCTMB twice first time with a different review book the second with this one and I passed with flying colors the second time around. I learned alot that my school didn't even cover from this book as it is so simple and well layed out it is easy to put together all the peices of the human puzzle.I would highly recommend this book to anyone Siting for any of the National Exams and even State exams.

Helped but had many mistakes
I found the book to be helpful w/ good review and short quizes. The CD tests were also good practice-- a bit more specific than the actual test.

My big complaint w/ the book were the obvious and numbered mistakes on the quizes. Allen would give a letter answer w/ a mismatched answer. It made it very confusing and frustrating for me, having to look the answer up on my own.

No Explanations....or Examples
DONT waste your money on this book, if you want a good detailed review. This is strictly a question and answers book. It doesn't explain anything. I purchased this book and I felt cheated. Since, It comes from ASCP you would think it would be a great help, but it really wasn't. Save your money and purchase something else...

really good study guide
this is A very good study guige it has pertainent information in easy to use format

Good final review book.
This book has helped me throughout the final laboratory year to grasp and understand majority of the concepts.
It does not contain explanations to the answers, which is different from other review books, however, as you prepare for any test, it will help you test your knowledge.

Wait for the 5th edition!!
I am a university course developer and MT(ASCP)and am using this, along with several other sources to develop content for a CLS program. I do agree with some of the other reviewers who stated just giving the raw "A,B,C,D" answer in not that helpful.ASCP should follow the lead of the NCA, AMT, and other commercially available reviews and give explanations for the answers.I do appreciate the breakout as to MLT/CLT vs. MT/CLS for each study area.What I cannot understand is that this review is over 13 YEARS OLD!I know ASCP is coming out with the 5th edition in July 09, but having a span of 13 years between editions is just unacceptable for a professional organization like ASCP.In those 13 years the profession has changed logarithmically and to publish and sell a review that is that outdated is totally unacceptable.My advice to anyone interested in buying this book is to wait for the 5th edition which should contain sections such as molecular studies, flow cytometry, and lymphocyte subset studies just to name a few (which are woefully underrepresented in this edition).

Good, but not excellent
It's a nice book if you already know DB2 9 pretty well and just need to refresh some details to pass the IBM exam 731.

It's not so nice for a DB2 beginner, because you cannot read it 'linearly': from the very first chapters you get references to material described much later in the book.

The introduction is 90% taken from the book on exam 730 by the same author. Maybe there's nothing wrong with it, but there are numerous references to exam 730 in the text of Chapter 1. Copy+paste, I think...

Review for DB2 9 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Database Administration: Certification Study Guide

This is the best book for preparing for Exam 731. I have used Roger Sanders' books in the past (viz. for v8 exams - 700 and 701). This book, like the other ones, is lucidly written and easy to understand. Also, since this is an exam preparation book; he has sample questions after every chapter. There is a 150 question set at the end of the book for practice that goes through all the main concepts (with answers too !!). If you preparing to get DB2 v9, buy this. (Also, for reference purposes you can check this out: Understanding DB2(R): Learning Visually with Examples (2nd Edition) )

First Rate Author
Excellent book. It is well written and the subject matter is spot on. If you need to learn Microsoft's Project 2010 in addition to getting up to speed (or re-hone) Project Management skills and theory, this is the book to get. It should be required reading for all Project Managers that are currently using or going to upgrade to Microsoft's Project 2010. I have taken Masters Level Project Management courses and this book can be used to supplement course material. It is a first rate subject matter book.

Test review
Excellent book for IC3 test review.Lots of sample questions, tips and advice for taking these certification tests.

Not so much...
I saw that this was the cheapest book in the area of IC3 review, and now I see why. The book is not necessarily terrible, but it doesn't really tell you anything you can't find in a book on networking or Excel that you could get from your local library.

It claimed to have insider tips on the test, but there were maybe 2 or 3 throughout the whole book. I can give you an insider tip: When you are asked a question that requires you to do things in a specific sequence, don't just click one thing and assume that since it says "answer complete" that you are finished. You've probably just clicked the wrong thing. I kept retrying each question until I couldn't anymore, which helped me pass.

Also, the CD-ROM with the practice test was awful. I KNOW I clicked on the right answers and it gave me a failing score, and when I went back and checked it against the answers in the book, it was totally inaccurate. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. ... Read more

Don't think is worth the money
I bought this book while going through the process of getting nationally certified. It's cumbersome to used and it really is not help at all. Save your money and used it toward the hefty fee you have to pay for your certification.

Helpful advice!
I am applying for National Board certification this year and I was hoping this book could help ease some of my fears about the process.It definitely did that!It's filled with great advice and lots of helpful places to record reflections and thoughts.I had hoped it would give more samples of what the assessors were looking for, but it didn't really do that.I was also hoping it would give more insight on the content of the 6 hour exam that comes at the end of the certification process, but it mostly gave advice about the test.Regardless, I found this book very helpful (moreso than "Navigating the National Board Process" which I also purchased).In my opinion, every little bit of information helps, so if you have applied for National Board and you're looking for helpful advice and info, you might enjoy this book.

This book has a few typos, the content is basically a course outline, all references are not stated and most of the sample questions and answers are not relevant based on the course of study. CISSP prep
This book does a good job at summarizing and explaining ideas and concepts without going into too much detail or "fluff" as most of the later versions do.If you have a very good understanding on computer technologies and had no problems with A+ and Security+ and you have a short amount of time to study...then this book is for you. If you have more time on your hands, then the most recent print of the book (approx 1100+ pages) is better to review especially if you are going to teach it to others in the future.

Easy Read and very useful!
This is a very easy book to follow and has a good approach to reviewing the material necessary for the CISSP exam.

Great book.
This is a tone down version of the All in One by Shon Harris.It's the bulk/meat of the bigger version.If you've read the AIO you probably didn't retain majority of the information in that book.But this book makes it fairly easy to retain all those information.For the CISSP exam I sugguest read the AIO and then read this book to get the high level material that will most likely be covered in the exam.I used this Passport book mainly for the exam and used the AIO plus other materials to reenforce the topics.I came back here to check, and found the price WAAYYY over priced!!Why is it $300+ when it was printed for $29.99??Even if it is out of print!

The book is as great as I was told it was, it is an easy read and very informative. It should help me a lot as I pursue a CISSP certification. I bought it used but it looked new, the personsold it from will get my business anytime, I'm very happy with the whole deal!

What a disapointment (and a ripoff)
First, the disappointment:
I must say, it is obvious to me that the writer is not only non-technical, but on occasion has trouble with composing coherent sentences.The book very much left me the impression that it was written in a major hurry, and that the writer just Googled each topic, and then slapped something together based on a quick read.Based on the apparent lack of technical knowledge and how concepts relating to software development, protocol stacks, networking, etc. were badly mangled in the book, I am really left wondering if I'll be able to pass the CISSP exam.

Now to the ripoff:
"Free online practice exam" is plastered all over this book (front, back, inside cover, entire section in the book, etc. But when you actually go the the specified web address to claim your free practice exam, they tell you it is no longer available for free, and now you have to pay $20 to get it!!! Haven't these people heard of a class action suit?This is outrageous.

So would I buy this book again? No sireee. And I'll stay away from McGraw-Hill/Osborne as well.

Do not see how anyone could rate it 5 stars, but...
This book is full of great information.I have received a computer networking with Cisco emphasis certificate degree at a community college.This is more of a review for me before I take the CCNA.I must say I enjoy the way the author presents the information, but this book does have faults.I have read the 5 star reviews, and it is alarming to me that most people have not picked up on the mistakes in the book.I understand no one is perfect, but when preparing for an exam I do not want to see typos and misprints in my study guide.Although the mistakes were not major, it still alarmed me and made me question the reliability of some information.

Overall, everything was great, but we will see when I go to take the actual CCNA.If I pass this book will get a 5 star rating regardless of the flaws it has.The purpose of the book is to pass the CCNA and if I can do that with the help of this book, then who I am to rate it any less than perfect.

Excellent for studying CCNA
A very comprehensive and well organized CCNA study guide that answers all of the questions you will see on the CCNA test.Also comes with a CD with three separate practice test that you can take.The writing is fresh and interesting and the authors keep things moving along.If you are only going to read one book before taking your CCNA, get this book!

Do not buy this book!!!
A lot of mistakes and not just typos but misconceptions. For example, on page 372 3rd paragraph from the top: "All devices on the LAN see the ARP request, but the target device is not in the local network. So, it does not see the ARP request. However, the LAN gateway (that is , the router), like all devices in the LAN, does see the ARP request. It recognizes that the ARP request is for an IP address that is located in a remote network."

So, from this text we can get that a PC from which we want to send a request to a remote network doesn't need to know the default gateway IP address. Why? Because the router will recognize (by itself) through ARP broadcast that this request is for the remote network!!!

Great Study Guide and Desk Reference!
I have pretty much read through this exam guide cover-to-cover and must say this is a solid book for preparing for the CCNA exam. I have 10+ years experience in the IT field and I am using this guide to polish up my Cisco skills and earn my CCNA. This book also doubles as a nice desk reference when not studying for the test. At about 1000 pages (Holy Bible size and weight ;-), the book contains a wealth of Cisco and networking knowledge, lots of practice test questions as well.I recommend it for dummies and non-dummies alike!

Great book!!!
I've read a bit more than halfway through it so far. This book is very informative and well written. It's a perfect study guide for Cisco CCNA certification. It also contains a lot of information about Cisco products, networking best practices and advice, a lot of tips and tricks (this guy obviously knows what he's talking about).

I consider myself a beginner/intermediate in networking and so far, it's been quite easy to understand the concepts explained. Plus all this info will probably be useful as reference ongoing. It even covers newer stuff like those sexy Cisco IP phones that you see on all TV shows now.

I like the way the author explains things, for example I have heard my colleagues speak about EtherChannel and port trunks and VLANs... all this sounded like rocket science to me, until I read an example that compares EtherChannel and port trunks and VLANs to a freeway overpass in the VLAN chapter. Now I get it!!! Also, the diagrams in the book make it very easy to understand some of the more advanced stuff.

This book has been very helpful so far. It helps me understand networking stuff that felt intimidating before. I am quite confident about the CCNA test now. I'll probably use the tip and tricks and best practices ongoing as a reference. I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

CD does not work with Windows 7
One of the tools available with this book is a CD from Learnkey. Unfortunately, I have been unable to make it work completely with Windows 7 OS. The book itself is informative, and the chapters broken down into managable parts. Self tests at the end of each chapter are helpful, but the final tests are on the CD.
I've been working with the Techs @ Learnkey to try to fix the CD issue.

Not for IPAD
I purchased this mainly because it was the only one available for electronic delivery. The primary text was fine but the text in the tables was unreadable making the book useless for me. Amazon very quickly credited my account and I'm waiting on "Pass CCRN" to become available electronically. Has anyone else had this problem?

Unprofessional
Multiple spelling and grammatical errors within the first 50 pages made it very hard to focus on the information, i.e. 'vasodialtors', instead of 'vasodilators' on page 41, and 'hypotention' instead of 'hypotension' on page 46. It's almost as if they didn't bother hiring an editor or proofreader. Kaplan's integrity is lost.

Not Good, pass on this one
I just passed my CCRN and I used a bunch of different materials including this one. Kaplan covers the basic concepts but the test questions do not reflect the actual test very well. (Pass! CCRN was the most accurate). Also the included web based test was a joke-- half of the questions were on Peds and Neonatal-- uh HELLO this is the Adult CCRN book!

I have gotton to page 100 as of today.I am truly trying to read slowly and put meaning to the information.However, I do not think that this book alone can get you ready for the exam.I plan to supplement with a 10 CD course and also a live speaker review just before taking the test. ... Read more

If stranded on an island with a need to practice Six Sigma...
This is a very practical and well done introduction to Six Sigma, the DMAIC framework, and introductory statistics using Minitab.As a trainer, it has become my primary recommendation for Green (and even Black) Belts.In fact, if you find yourself stranded on a desert island with a constraint of bringing with you only one book and a need to practice Six Sigma, this book would be my recommendation.

As an aside, Kindle for PC and iPhone make it possible to reference and *search* the text from anywhere without lugging around the book.This is just the sort of resource that benefits from the Kindle for X technology.Great stuff!

Six Sigma for Green Belts and Champions
It is amazing book for study six sigma. Good explanations and practical examples in combination with Minitab software. For those who are dedicatedin learning six sigma, this book can offer enough information and practice.

Comprehensive Textbook at Black Belt Level
I was surprised by the well balanced and complete coverage of the Six Sigma methodology from DMAIC, including managerial steps, all the way to statistics up through Design of Experiments.The all inclusive topics seem to parallel full Black Belt training.I would expect green belts to be offered selections from the book in a standard course.I would say no other book has this "textbooky" look and feel (that is not meant as a criticism).At the end of chapters find Minitab instructions including screen shots.The material is well written, hence understandable, hence I think this is one of the best overall introductions to the subject without slamming the reader with high levels of mathematical theory.

I think this book is an excellent resource for experienced Six Sima managers. However, if you want to buy this book as a study guide for the SSGB certification test, or as an introduction to Six Sigma, it isn't going to help you out much.I guess my lowered rating is due to the fact that the book didn't meet my expectations as it was described on the Amazon site. ... Excellent study material for the Network+ exam
As others have said before me, Todd Lammle's book gives you everything you need to pass the N10-004 exam, while giving you knowledge outside of the exam, which could surely come in handy in the professional world. I really like his style of writing, which was humorous at times, and explained things in an easy to understand manner. The chapter on subnetting was especially well done. I've read some other explanations of how to subnet, and his was by far the best. I also read Bill Ferguson's book, which really cemented the knowledge I needed to know for the exam. There were also some parts where I felt Bill did a better job of explaining things, like on the structure of MAC addresses. After I read Mr Furguson's book, I went back and reread Lammle's and was finally able to understand what he was he was trying to say. I haven't got into the street smarts book yet, but I intend to when I buy routers and switches to study for the CCNA cert. If you buy this book, and you take the time to learn it thoroughly you will definitely pass. I got a score of 829.

Good enough
This was the only material I used to study for the Network+ 2009 Certification and I passed on the first attempt.I would give it 5 Stars, but there were a handful of questions on the example exams that had incorrect answers.There is no need to read the Network Administrator Street Smarts book in order to take the test.I didn't even look at it.You only need the Study Guide and the Review Guide to pass the test.I will probably read the Street Smarts book if I ever get a job in the Networking field.

This Network+ set separates those who know, from those who don't.
When it comes to technical writing, I'm extremely impressed with Sybex. I have read books from other publishers such as Cram Exam, McGraw/Hill ect., but Sybex sets a new standard. If you work in the IT field, then you know troubleshooting and unique problem solving is a must have. Just puking out exam facts and terms may get you past the test, but it won't get you a better job or advance your career. The Sybex group will give you knowledge well beyond the scope of CompTIA's Network+ objectives, and this is what will set you apart from your co-workers when it comes time for a promotion or a pay raise. Not only will you pass the test, but it will provide skills that can be used NOW! You'll be able to SHOW your employer that you didn't just "pass" a test; rather, you actually learned something that can be used on the job, and this increases your "worth" to that company. We've all met people who boast about knowing something, that they really know little to nothing about. Don't be that person; use Sybex materials for your studies.
