Extractions: 2 - 5 September 2003 ParCo is the longest running series of international conferences in Europe on the development and application of parallel computers. The first conference was held in Berlin in 1983. At that conference the publication of the international Parallel Computing journal was announced. The conference thus marks two decades of progress in the dynamic field of high-speed computing. From the outset the prime goal was to maintain a high scientific standard both in the conference itself and in the published and refereed proceedings. This was also the reason for running the conference on a bi-annual basis in order to allow researchers to produce significant new results. The high standard of conference presentations and of the refereed proceedings have become the hall-mark of ParCo The scientific program, in combination with the industrial exhibition and industrial session, regularly gives an overview of the state-of-the-art of the development, application and future trends in parallel computing. The conference organisers plan the conferences such that a maximum opportunity is created for delegates to meet and interact with fellow researchers. As organisers we do hope that delegates will participate in the scientific activities, will visit the industrial exhibition and sessions and will use the social activities to make new and renew old contacts. The informal nature of the conference allows for easy interaction with fellow delegates.

Extractions: The Colgate Parallel Computing Laboratory consists of several parallel computers. The newest machine is a 32 node Parsytec PowerXplorer pictured above. Each node consists of a PowerPC601 processor for computation and a T805 Transputer for communications. Each node has 12 MB memory. The system is hosted by a Sun Sparcstation5. The older system in the lab consists of over 100 T414 transputers. These are connected in various ways. Typically, we have four stations, each with 17 transputers connected in a four dimensional hypercube. These are hosted by PCs and a Canon NeXTstation. Both the newest machine and the original transputer system in our lab were funded by National Science Foundation ILI and CSIP grants and a grant from INMOS Ltd. COSC 445 Parallel Computing This course is an overview of parallel computing. It includes a laboratory component where students learn to develop programs to solve large scale computational problems in the Colgate Parallel Computation Laboratory.

Extractions: A 200-node wide-area distributed system built out of four Myrinet-based Pentium Pro clusters DAS (Distributed ASCI Supercomputer) is a wide-area distributed cluster designed by the Advanced School for Computing and Imaging (ASCI) . DAS will be used for research on parallel and distributed computing by five Dutch universities: DAS consists of four clusters, located at the first four universities. The first cluster (at the VU) contains 128 nodes, the other three clusters have 24 nodes (200 nodes in total). The system was built by Parsytec and runs the BSD/OS (version 3.0) operating system from BSDI The DAS system is funded by NWO (the Netherlands organization for scientific research), SION (the foundation for computer science research in the Netherlands) and the participating universities. Technical description: Each node contains: A 200 Mhz Pentium Pro (Siemens-Nixdorf D983 motherboard) 64 MB EDO-RAM in DIMM modules (128 MB for the clusters in Leiden and VU) A 2.5 GByte local disk

Extractions: Search entire web site The latest stable version of LAM/MPI is 6.5.9. If you are using a version prior to that, you are strongly encouraged to upgrade immediately. LAM (Local Area Multicomputer) is an MPI programming environment and development system for heterogeneous computers on a network. With LAM, a dedicated cluster or an existing network computing infrastructure can act as one parallel computer solving one problem. LAM features extensive debugging support in the application development cycle and peak performance for production applications. LAM features a full implementation of the MPI communication standard. There are currently three different versions of LAM/MPI available for download. The 6.5.9 release has been heavily tested and is considered stable.
