I paid for the book the day i ordered it! it was SUPPOSE to be shipped within 2 days.. i paid the expedite extra charge as well.. i did not recieve it on the day promised! I not happy with the sender.. they ripped me off! Next time, I will never order from Amazon ever again! I got the book in 8 days! which i wasted 6.99 for nothing because my order was not expedited to me in the time that was promised! so pissed off... if you dont know how to do business, dont be part of it!

Good product
Bought these for my husband about a month ago. He has been using them ever since. They were in excellent shape when I received them.

not good for step 1
I was really excited when I found theses cards, at first sight they looked far superior to the BRS/Lippincott cards that everyone uses.However, after going through them I'm finding they are not good for learning drugs for step 1.There are more clinical 'stories' than hard facts about each drug and there is little overlap with the drugs covered in First Aid (scares me I'm not learning what I need to).Perhaps they will be better for step 2 and/or 3 but I'm not going to use them to teach myself drugs for step 1.

Good review aid
The question and answer format is helpful. You need to have a fair amount of background knowledege to get the full use of these cards. Great to read in the train, bus etc!

good for pharm and more
I had a number of questions on step 1 that I wouldn't have gotten correct if I hadn't used these cards.It doesn't seem like it, but there is a lot of information in the cards. I plan on using these cards to review for my other board exams. I used the other pharm cards to study but ended up primarily sticking to this set.

Step 1 Taker
Okay, I got these because I really am weak on pharmacology for step one. They are chock full of information (more then you need) but they explain that on the insert and how to use them if studying for step 1, 2, or whatever. There were a few typos which I was not pleased with but they weren't so bad that I didn't know what the actual drugs name was. Also, I wish the cards were made of sturdier material as they were a bit to thin for my liking and bent easily.I haven't gotten any other flash cards to compare them to but overall I would recommend them. They did the job and I think they'll be still be useful next year for when I take Step 2. ... Read more

too many mistakes
This is not for board review and not exactly high yield for finals either. It has way too many mistakes for being the fifth edition. The ANS section is by far the most unwell written chapter.

Good, but too detailed
This is a good supplement to class notes and First Aid for pharm if you need to go above and beyond. However, it is very detailed compared with other titles in the BRS series. I found it too detailed for my pharmacology class and too time consuming for board prep.

New edition
This is a new edition.Disregard the other reviews about the older, outdated edition.

An excellent book.
I was one of the few people in my medical school class that liked this book.I used it as a supplement to my class notes and pharmcards to study for pharmacology. I used it in addition to FirstAid to study for the boards.I found it to be excellent.I like the outline format. I found that it hit upon the pertain side effects and interactions, and I liked the organization.Mechanism of action descriptions were adequate for nearly all questions I was asked. Most in my class used the Lippicontt Illustrated Reviews Pharmacology book. But, they weren't #1 in their class for both Pharm I and Pharm II in medical school. I was.It is a good book.It is a little old now, and is certainly over-due for a new edition. If you're looking for high-quality review questions to supplement your studying, this is the book. Question stems are clinicaly-oriented and do a great job of giving you a sense of both the scenarios in which a drug is likely to be used and just how the side effects actually manifest. Explanations are thorough and address not only the correct answer but rather all of the options with adequate depth such that they still have much to teach even if you get the question right. Good for review but.....
This is a really nice complement to the textbook however, I am very disappointed that it does not include an answer key for the quizzes for each chapter.

Great study guide!
This workbook is a must have if you also purched the Basic Pharmacology For Nurses textbook. I use this to study for all my weekly Pharm tests. It has a very informative chapter summary section before you get into the questions. It also has practice NCLEX questions relating to each chapter. The only thing I don't like is there is not an answer key. So you have no idea if you are really answering the questions correctly.

Basic Pharmacology for Nurses
This product was new and still in plastic wrap. I saved quite a bit of money by online purchasing. Amazon.com has been great in helping with my education!

Many Answer Key Errors
I was assigned this book for an online pharmacology course connected with a nursing re-entry program. I have found an unacceptable number of errors in this book and believe it can be dangerous for nursing students to use. The publishers should certainly be required to immediately make an erratum available with corrections. I am only about a third of the way through my program and note these errors:

p79 Exercise on sliding scale insulin dosage
**first answer should be TEN units (7+3) (book says 11)
**second answer should be ELEVEN units (7+4 - not 8...)
**p80 example 3 answer should be .66 ml NOT .75

p82 Exercise on drops per minute should say 60gtt PER ML NOT per hour at top of page. Also section is on gtt/min yet the answers are calling for mL/hr...

p261 Q3 answer should be 0.625 NOT 0.75 as noted in answer key.

p 355 paragraph on "fostering health maintenance" lists "high cholesterol foods" as "...fried foods, fatty desserts, and nuts..." While also saying that cholesterol is an animal product and not found in plants.

The book has excellent well written sections which make these errors look like a sloppy lack of editing and quality control.

  Great for Pharmacology students
  It is a great pharmacology textbook for introductory students. It goes in-depth enough for you to understand the mechanisms behind pharmacological processes. Most likely this review isn't necessary as this will be required for whatever class you are taking but if you are independently thinking about a pharmacology textbook, I would recommend this one. It comes with online material for further instruction as well.

Great book!
Maybe it's because I have the second edition but I thought this book was clear, concise, and easy to understand unlike many other reviews.I'm not in nursing so I skipped the parts of the chapter on the nursing process and wished there were more detailed descriptions of how the drugs worked.However, for nursing this books seems great.It definitely gave me even more respect than I already had for all that nurses do.

The book is quite heavy, and the contents are quite dense. As I read the book more carefully, I saw many contradicting information about the book. The contents inside the book was not very accurate. Essential for Pediatric Nursing Students
This book explains things very clearly. I'm a first year nursing student and I enjoy reading it and usually with other textbooks I have to read them a few times before I can really grasp the information but with this one, I only have to read it once, highlight what I need at that time and move on. falling apart
Book immediately started falling apart within the first couple of times of opening. The binding broke and with each time I open the book a new page falls out. Bought book new, very displeased!

Edmunds Pharmacology for the Primary Care Provider
Concise and organized, it is helping me thru my Pharmacology course in the NP Program, some information missing but in general is OK.

BAD! BAD! BAD!
I ordered the pharmaocology flash cards on sept 1st,I did not know that they were being shipped from INDIA! certified mail. With my hectic scedule I was not here when they were delievered sept 15th. I finally recieved my order today the packaging was pitiful,they used an old box and overkilled on the packing tape. The cards themselves had a lot more then shelfware as stated in the sellers notes the box is ripped and cracked down the back and the cards theselves are bent at corners and some of the med cards were not in their proper tab! I will not order from books a plenty again It was definatley not worth the 25 bucks I paid.

Pharm Phlash
These cards are a valuable tool to use during clinical rotations.They are small enough to fit in your pocket and reference while passing medications.They are color coded by body system and drug classifications that also include pictures, which really helped me memorize certain drugs.The only down side is that they leave out some pertinent side effects, so I would suggest using your drug guide concurrently.

All the drugs are categorized and there is an index in the back that is alphabetized the only thing that I didn't like was there are no dose ranges for the drugs. Other than that it is like a drug book and some cards have nursing diagnosis on them.

Pharm meds on the go
These pharm cards were great. They covered all the meds covered in all the meds on my Eliminiation, Respiratory test and Pharm Quiz so far...Kind of disappointed in the list of side effects...I think they could have just listed the pertinent ones most common with elaboration if needed. Waste of my money
I purchased this book for class, not by choice.This book sucks!!!!!! I can't follow it AT ALL.The examples it gives in the chapters are not clear.For example, it doesnt tell you "..we want mL/hr at the end" i actualyl don't know what it wants!!!!!! Don't buy it.I've only opened this book twice, and I'm already trying to get rid of it.

Great resource
This is an excellent resource for working through pharmacology.Really helps to put concepts in order.

Very helpful
Got this study guide for my wife who is working towards her Masters in Nursing.The answers are on a website but I was easily able to print them all out for her.They don't cost extra but you do have to click a few things to get to them.She reports the study guide is very helpful to understanding the material and well worth the extra money and hassle of pulling the answers off the web.

Pharmacology for Nursing essential for any nurse
This study guide is a great tool to understand the book. The only thing thats annoying is the answers are online, so to check if you are correct you have to sit down at the computer and find them all. To make this easier, i downloaded all the answers and saved them to a file on my computer, but I still don't like it as much as having the answers in the back, although it is saving a lot of paper, so that makes it worth it

Pharmacology for Nursing Care
Great textbook! Required for a pharm class, this is one of the best textbooks I've read. Factual, concise, and certainly NOT dry, plus broken up into fairly short, manageable chapters. High marks from me - highly recommended.

Best prehosp pharm book out there
Dr. Guy is a phenomenal educator and his pharm book is hands-down the best one out there--not just for paramedics but for all critical care transport professionals.It's well-laid out, concise, topical and easy to use in both clinical practice and as a teaching reference.Dr. Guy understands what it's like to be out on the streets (what, you mean our patients *don't* read the textbook?) and his case studies reflect that practical applicability.And let's face it, pharm can be a little boring, but Dr. Guy's mix of humor and expertise makes it kinda fun.Our flight crews often listen to his podcasts on the way back to base as quick, effective reviews of patho and pharm.This book and its accompanying Podcasts should be standard curriculum in any paramedic program.I would give this book six stars if I could.

I enjoy Dr. Guy's podcasts on iTunes and his book has made learning pharm for paramedic school much less stressful. Great buy for new paramedic students, flight RNs, and even seasoned paramedics looking to review and gain new insights into prehospital drug therapy.

great study guide...
I felt this purchase was a good one. It was well thought out and used analogies to explain complicated information, that helped greatly in understanding the material. It also had drug cards in the book, i copied them on a printer and kept them in my purse to study in various 'down time' like waiting for car repairs, etc. overall, it was very helpful in learning necessary information for my medic education.

it took a whole year to get my own copy, but the waiting was worth it. One of the best books I have ever read conceived to introduce a difficult field to Paramedic students. Readible but wrong
We purchased this book thinking it might be useful for our medical students.It is not.This book has numerous basic errors of pharmacology principles.It is laid out well and communicates things clearly however it is misleading and wrong about important aspects of pharmacology.Believing some of what is written in this book could result in harm if it influenced prescribing decisions.

A book written in this style covering these areas could be very useful if it was correct.

Easy Reading
Great reading for anyone having trouble understanding Pharmacology...I highly recommend it to anyone needing a bit more clarity in the subject.

Excellent book
I am really pleased with this book, I am doing a course by correspondance and there is so much material to cover; this book has provided a logical framework to work from. I particularly like the way key information highlighted in text boxes.
The price is very reasonable for the amount of information included in the book.

Good first read
This book is great for the adrenergics and cholinergics.In other areas it is a good foundation, but you need to fill in the details.It gives good suggestions on name recognition - which is invaluable in pharm.It is worth the money, but you can't use it as your only source.It is an excellent building block though.

Concise but skimpy and out of date
This is a very useful book for someone who needs a quick pharmacology review for the USMLE step 1 exam.It can be studied in its entirety within two days, but cementing all the information in long-term memory will require returning to it frequently during the course of study.

Stringer's casual student-oriented style helps put the nervous reader at ease and builds confidence while studying, a rarity in review books which are more likely on one of the two polar extremes of intimidating or condescending.The sheer mass of detail can be overwhelming in pharmacology as well, and Stringer is also very helpfully pragmatic in emphasizing which details are important for the student to learn the first time around, and which can be saved for a second pass through the material.

Pharmacology books become obsolete quickly, and, like most others, this one needs an update.For example, it covers only sulfonyl ureas, not even mentioning the three newer classes of diabetes drugs.

Stringer reminds the reader constantly that her book is not complete, and that it should be supplemented by other material, and she's right.At times its coverage is a bit skimpy, especially on side effects, and it has little discussion about recent trends in treatment options (e.g., that barbiturates are being phased out in favor of the less toxic benzodiazapines).Still it's an excellent starting point and emphasizes well what's most important versus what's less so.

One minor quibble is that the editing on this book needs to be tighter - there are quite a few grammatical errors, such as confusing the contraction "it's" with the possessive "its".But this is a minor quibble over a book that is an excellent starting point for reviewing pharmacology for the USMLE step 1. ... Pharmacology class
Great book, but unable to use the registry card inside since the log-on provided doesn't work. It's not just for this particular one, the whole class is unable to use it. Tried contacting cengagebrain and it's been over 3 weeks and they still can't seem to fix the problem.
