Paisley Uni: Placement For Chemistry & Chemical Engineering Students Students on other degrees (eg pure chemistry, medicinal chemistry) have this as theSAFs as they prefer their own applications procedure (cvs, own application http://www.cce.paisley.ac.uk/chemistry/home/placements/placements.htm
Extractions: At the end of 3rd year, all industrial chemistry and chemical engineering students can take a one year industrial placement to obtain work experience relevant to their degree course. Students on other degrees (e.g. pure chemistry, medicinal chemistry) have this as an option. Industrial experience improves career prospects and provides a good talking point at job interviews after graduation. For recent publicity on one of these posts, click here. The placement can also be of great value to students who are uncertain about the type of work they want to do after completing their studies. Also, students who have completed a placement tend to achieve better grades in their final honours year than those who remain at University, and earn a years' worth of wages. Any tax paid can be reclaimed at the end of the year (ask your employer or local tax office for a rebate form and more information), but National Insurance contributions are not refundable. Applications to companies and subsequent interviews are usually arranged through the placement officer ( Dr Durrant ) at the University.

Extractions: The Fellowship CVs and abstracts of Fellows elected in 2001 Dr Robin Batterham Connecting vision to reality The search has covered several fields. In all of them, mathematical modelling was used to better understand real processes to allow their improvement. Brief examples will be given in the nucleation of sugar crystals, radiation in kilns, the packing of solids, a direct smelting process and a novel low-energy reactor. The same scene of connecting vision to reality has run through my review of Australia's Science, Engineering and Technology base which culminated in the recent package delivered by the Federal Government. While mathematical modelling was not at the forefront of the review, understanding the process of science and its interaction with the triple bottom line was essential. I look forward in the future to continued involvement in some major research breakthroughs: a new aluminium process, biomass production and artificial photosynthesis. Professor Allan Canty Professor Canty received a PhD (1972) and DSc (1993) from Monash University for studies of organometallic and coordination chemistry of the heavy metals. After a period as an 1851 Overseas Scholar at Cambridge University in 1971-73, he joined the University of Tasmania. His research interests have included ruthenium carbonyl organometallics; the biological, inorganic and structural chemistry of mercury; and the coordination and organometallic chemistry of heavy p block and late transition metals, in particular mercury, gold and platinum, and more recently the development of organopalladium(IV) chemistry and probing the role of palladium(IV) in organic synthesis and catalysis applications.

Extractions: Contents The XFree86 Project, Inc is the organisation which produces , a freely redistributable open-source implementation of the X Window System . XFree86 runs primarily on UNIX(R) and UNIX-like operating systems such as Linux, all of the BSD variants, Sun Solaris x86, Mac OS X (via Darwin), as well as other platforms like OS/2 and Cygwin. XFree86, provides a client/server interface between display hardware (the mouse, keyboard, and video displays) and the desktop environment while also providing both the windowing infrastructure and a standardized application interface (API). XFree86 is platform-independent, network-transparent and extensible. With XFree86 a user cannot only choose the desktop environment they prefer, but because we are an open-source project, users can also modify and update their systems as they see best. As XFree86 has always been an unabashed supporter of freedom of the user desktop, so we encourage users to customise and personalise their desktops with the application of their choice, whether it be KDE, GNOME, Enlightenment, Blackbox, AfterStep,Window Maker, fvwm or twm. Our goal at XFree86 is to have X run on every platform available, including those we do not currently support, as the best windowing system available on that platform.
