5-0 out of 5 stars Hank Zipzer Series
After YEARS of trying different series of books that would hook my 5th grade son (who has Asperger's) on reading, I found the Hank Zipzer series - and it WORKED!!!Hank's experiences with his family and friends, his problems in school and his feelings about special education were all very relatable to my son's own life experiences (even though Hank does NOT have Aspergers). We have read the entire series and have found them well written, very funny (what would you expect from Henry Winkler?)and wonderfully entertaining. The best part is that this series of books opened up the world of reading to my son.He is now in 7th grade and has moved on to other types of books but I don't know if we ever would have gotten here without the Hank Zipzer series.I believe any 3rd grade - 6th grade boy or girl would enjoy this series.I especially recommend it for children who have any type of learning disability or have a friend with a learning disability.Thank you Henry Winkler!

5-0 out of 5 stars Please read them!!!
These books are so well written. I read them out loud to my 6 year old son. We laugh along at the trouble Hank gets into and I cry when his grandpa tells him how special he is. Get them, Read them, Love them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dyslexic Reader
My son and daughter are dyslexic. It is hard to find something geared for their challenges and interests but Hank Zipzer has really helped. I found this series by watching an interview of Henry Winkler. When I informed the children of his books they werevery excited about reading them. When we received them in the mail they started reading and still are. They find the books interesting and I find them helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hank Zipster collection, 1-4
Good books for struggling students, their parents, and even the teachers.A fun way to "see" dyslexia and other disablities without preaching. Thanks for giving us a first-hand glimps of the struggles of young learners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hank Zipzer is a winner!
These books are great! My son LOVED these books and wants me to buy the rest of them, which we will.My son has ADHD, and was able to relate to Hank's difficulties in school and his "escapades."The language is right on target for 4th graders (Holy Enchilada!) which makes it such a fun read. The "moral lessons" are great, but not heavy or preachy.A fun journey for kids that lets them learn good things along the way. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Hank Zipzer, Help! Somebody get me out of 4th grade
How many ways are there to get out of parent/teacher conferences?
Hank Zipzer has to figure out at least one way, and quickly. He comes up with a very unconventional idea, which could backfire and get him into a lot of trouble.
The characters in the story are strong and lively, the communications and conversations funny and entertaining. Any fourth grader could easily relate to this hilarious story and the "cool" and "sassy" way the characters talk. I love the different black/white, what looks like done by children, illustrations in the chapter headers. A book that would make me want to read more of the Hank Zipzer books.

5-0 out of 5 stars more in a good kid series
my 11 yr old 5th gr daughter is a devoted Hank Zipzer fan; she these are quick easy reads for her, but very enjoyable; I even like when she reads out loud to me; they help her better understand her Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) & learning disabilities (LD) in a fun way; Henry Winkler turned his negative childhood experiences into a positive thing for his children & ours

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun
This series gets better and better. In this adventure, Hank sneaks a peak at the teacher's register and sees 'redo' beside his name. Now he is panicked; he is going to have to repeat the fourth grade, and be in the same class as his brilliant younger sister. But rather than asking adults he trusts to help him figure this out, he devises his own plan. His plan includes getting his parents out of town so they will miss his Parent Teacher Interview.

His plan is elaborate. First he needs to forget the slip two days in a row. And he wins a trip for them to Philadelphia to catch a Rock concert. Now his mother wants to rock, but his father who collects mechanical pencils and does crosswords, has no interest. Will he get them to Philly? Will they miss the parent teacher interview? Will he make it out of the 4th Grade? Read this wonderful story to find out.

I have said it before but as someone with Dyslexia these books are eerily haunting. It is like reading a piece about my own childhood - my struggles, failures and successes. These books are meant for a younger audience but they are great for anyone who struggled with learning difficulties, even if diagnosed as an adult or university student. They are also great fun for a family to read together, or for those who know people with these special needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son's favorite series!
My 10 year old son loves Hank Zipzer, I do too. This book is great, very funny and so real you could just imagine your child as Hank. This book is one of our favorites in the series. They are all wonderful books, very entertaining and funny for both children and adults. My son really relates to Hank he has similar issues with reading and writing (Dyslexia), so for him the books are such a great moral boost. These books are written easy enough for my son to read, but yet so entertaining they do not seem too young for a 10 year old. We love them so much we bought a small set for my son's classroom and the school library. This is a series most boy's will relate too!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Night I Flunked my Field Trip - Good Book
I liked how the author had the idea to make Hank lose his permission slip to go on the field trip with his friends.Because his mean teacher gave him only one hour to look for it.It was funny how the captain on the ship made them mop pee off the decks.

I think I liked, "Help I'm trapped in 4th grade" a little bit better.Because it had more funny parts.

5-0 out of 5 stars HANK ROCKS!!!
The Hank Zipzer series of books are the greatest. Great job Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver ! They have such great (clean) humor and what memories it brings back from those awkward elementary school years. These books are geared not just for kids, but for adult enjoyment too. My son and I have read the first 4 and loved them all. They make for a nice book report for school too, each around 150 pages and they just whiz by. Another thing we like is that even from the first paragraph, it has your attention. :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun
As the back of the book says: "Hank Zipzer: He's smart. He's creative. He's funny. His pencils are sharpened. His binders are bound. He wants to do well in school - he really does. He tries not to be lazy, like his parents claim he is. So why is he always getting into trouble?" Maybe just because he is Hank Zipzer. Hank is blessed with good friends, a good family, and even exceptional intelligence. The problem is he has learning disabilities, and even though he tries hard, things do not always go as he plans. With the big science fair coming up, who can imagine the problems Hank will run into.

Hank comes up with a fantastic idea for his science project. He plans on trying to make the TV Guide on cable easier for kids with learning disabilities to read. He plans to take apart the family cable box and experiment with it. But while he has the box apart his sisters Iguana lays eggs in it. Zipzer must rethink his plan and deal with a nesting Iguana under his bed. Oh what an adventure.

Then Hank invites Frankie over to see the movie.I like this book because it has a good ending and it like he's talking to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Funny
It's the end of the school year and Hank Zipzer is back in trouble again. Not only did he get three D's on his report card, he managed to get the whole report card mixed into a sample batch of his mother's soy salami. Oh me, oh my, what a pickle for Hank and for his mother's deli The Crunch Pickle. At first Hank does not think this is such a bad thing because he believes the batch of Salami is bound for the garbage can, but then he discovers it is heading to a tasting for an owner of a grocery chain. Salami full of report card cannot taste very good. He has to do something but does not know what.

In this book Hank is diagnosed with learning challenges. He also admits it to himself and others. It is also the beginning of a plan to develop strategies to help him overcome his disability. This is another great adventure for the Zipzer, and will be for you and your children also.

Niagara Falls, Or Does It? #1 (Hank Zipzer)

My name is Jacob i read this book for my summer reading project.

This book is about a 4th grader named Hank Zipzer who has a learning disability.Hank needs to write a essay on what he did over the summer, but he can't think of anything to write about. So Hank decided to build Niagara Falls instead.

i liked this book because it's funny and people can get a good laugh out of it.
i would reccomend this book to anyone because it's a good book to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book for Reluctant Readers!
This is a great book for reluctant readers(or any readers for that matter)! We introduced this book to our 5th grade struggling readers, and they loved it!We heard them laughing out loud as they read, and they needed no "encouragement" from us teachers to keep reading the book.Others students in the class noticed the popularity of the book and wanted to read the book, too. When students finished this book, they wanted to read the next books in the series.(It's a rare book indeed that entices struggling or reluctant readers to want to read more.)

The writing is clever and funny, and the vocabulary is accessible for 4th and 5th grade struggling readers. I think many of our students identified with Hank's struggles.I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining
There aren't many book series for boys that I can recommend without hesitating.Hank Zipzer is the exception -- These books give you truly funny and entertaining stories, lovable characters who learn and try, acceptable language, school challenges, and respectful kids.WOW.

No real illustrations within the book, but doodling on the chapter headings. My 8-year-old gives these a big thumbs-up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you
Thank you to the authors for this wonderful series of books. My 9 year old son has been a reluctant reader and now he is begging for these books as we finish them. We have gone from me reading them aloud to us reading separately and talking about the stories together! The characters are strong and diverse. The situations are funny and Hank's journey through being misunderstood evokes empathy in a young reader.I'm in love with this series.

5-0 out of 5 stars My 4th Graders Love It
Want to capture the interest of 8-10 years old ( perfect for 4th graders ) this is the magic book. It is one of a series but the one you should start with. When you have a class say can we read today - you know the book has done its job. I recommend this book to "kick start" a love a reading older chapter books. 5-0 out of 5 stars Another hit.
The more I read this series the more I love it. Few series could hold my attention past 3 or 4 books yet this one is doing an admirable job. Not only am I excited about reading the books I have not finished yet, I am looking forward to those not yet published. Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver do an amazing job of capturing the angst, struggles and feelings of a young student struggling with a learning disability. I have said it before but reading parts of these books is like reading segments from my own childhood and my personal struggles with dyslexia.

In this segment of Hank's journey, the family is taking a road trip over the Christmas Holidays. Each member gets to choose a stop along the way. Hank's father, Stanley, started it all by wanting to go to the National Crossword championship. His mother, Randi, chose an organic bee farm; his sister a science museum, and Hank chose a roller coaster park. It looked like it would be a great vacation. Then on the last day of school he is handed a homework pack to help give him an advantage after the break. Once his father finds out about it, Hank's problems begin; he must complete it or he cannot go to the roller coaster park. But vacation and travel and hotels are so much fun he keeps putting it off, then he accidentally leaves it behind at one of the hotels. Hank tries to jump through all kinds of hoops to keep his parents from knowing he lost the package but in the end realized, maybe too late, that the truth is always the best plan.

This is another great book in an awesome series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Are we there yet?
How would you feel if you couldn't go to a place that you have been dying to go to all your life just because of an incomplete homework packet? Wouldn't you think it was unfair? Well in the book Hank Zipzer, Barfing in The Backseat, is exactly what Hank does as he struggles with this problem. His teacher gave him a homework packet because Hank has a learning disability and doesn't want him to forget anything over his spring break. His dad finds out about the packet and tells him if he doesn't get the packet done before they get to the amusement park, Hank can't go. Hank was really furious. His sister Emily, who is the smart one, makes fun of Hank because she thinks he would not get it done. She thought that because she thought he was dumb. What will Hank do to try to get the packet done in time so he can go to the amusement park? Will he succeed and be happy?

Henry Winkler is a very good author. He writes many good books. This is one in the Hank Zipzer series. Barfing in The Backseat is one of the best books he has written. They are all well written.

I like this book because it reminds me of one of my friends who had a learning disability and it would take him a long time to complete things. This book helps me understand what my friend went through.

This series is soooo cool for both boys and girls ages 3rd-???. I teach 3rd grade and these are my kids' favorite read alouds. I have an 11 year old daughter and this is the first series she has been "into". They are funny, with lots of elementary school humor and words they find hilarious.

Hank LOVES baseball. L-O-V-E-S it! Unfortunately, though, he's not very good at the game. So everyone is surprised--including Hank himself--when Hank throws a zinger pitch at a practice for P.S. 87's annual School Olympiad baseball game. Hank knows how he pitched the "Zippity Zinger"--it must have happened because he accidentally wore his sister Emily's lucky monkey socks! Because of that stellar pitch, Hank has been chosen to pitch for P.S. 87 for the Big Game. The pressure is on--Hank's got to wear those socks again, or risk blowing the biggest ball game of his life. The only problem is, Emily wants to wear the lucky monkey socks herself since she's competing in the Brain Buster for the Olympiad. Will Hank be able to pull off another Zippity Zinger--or will he strike out? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Knocked it out of the park
What does any child fear? Looking like a fool in public. Hank loves baseball but he doesn't think he can play very well, and even with his grandfather wanting to spend time helping him hone his skills he doesn't want to try out for the school Olympiad. PS87 is having their annual Olympiad and the students are divided into two teams - team Yellow and team Blue. There are three events - Brain Buster Trivia, Softball and Triple C, Clean and Clutter Free. Hank had signed up for the 3C but while practicing with his Grandpa starts throwing wicked pitches. Unfortunately he thinks it is because of his sister's red socks with pink monkeys. He believes they are lucky socks.

Soon however, his sister is looking for them for her own part in the Olympiad. His sister Emily is a brain, and always knows way more on a topic than most people would care to know. Hank on the other hand, struggles in school because of his dyslexia and has a low self image because of his consistent struggles and failures. Once Emily is looking for the socks, he struggles with the idea of hiding them from her. He has already committed to pitching in the Olympiad but does the right thing and gives her back her lucky socks. Can he still pitch? Will his yellow team win? Read to find out. This is yet another good book in this great series.

My son and I have read the first 3 books in the Hank Zipzer series together. We enjoyed each one, especially the underlying theme of hope for children who learn differently. This fourth book, was the turning point where my son actually is reading the book alone. If I could contact Mr. Winkler I would like to thank him for being such a great role model for kids who are bright and creative but have difficulties in areas that the rest of us take for granted. The print is large and the vocabulary is not overwhelming yet the stories are fun and meaningful for the tween age group. We can't wait for the 5th book to come out in May 2004. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great fun read for kids on vacation!
This is a delightful book from the series by Henry Winkler. My grandson is autistic--but has a wonderful sense of humor (he draws his own cartoons). He also participates in drama camp -- so even though this was a little below his reading level, I knew he would love the character and the circumstances surrounding the story. He did-- so I consider this a good summer read for kids.As a former English teacher, I believe that reading fun things develops both imagination and skill.

4-0 out of 5 stars Positive for kids learning from each other.
I really like these books. Hank learns he can learn from other kids. Kids can sometimes learn better from other kids because they have a closer point of view on things. I really like that the know-it-all girl learns she can really learn from someone like Hank and be better for it. In real life I have paired LD with Gifted students and had something like this really happen, each learns something from the other. I do wish the dad would learn that LD students really do have to work harder and take small steps to get the better grades. Why doesn't Hank get some help in his school to get better? All schools are supposed to have some sort of classes to help these students learn how to see things like Hank learned using the library books with peer tutoring. Even with these problems as I see them, I really do like the books and the message they send about how you can learn even if you learn a different way to see the answers.

5-0 out of 5 stars All of life is a stage for Hank Zipzer
This is a great series, it does an amazing job of capturing the experience of living and growing up with learning disabilities. Henry Winkler admits that he himself has a form of dyslexia. However this is the second book with a glaring continuity error, and it is beginning to bother me. In Book 10 My Dog's a Scaredy-Cat: A Halloween Tail it states that Hank never got above C's he saysthat his "grades have only ever traveled to C-ville and parts south". In this book on p.3 Hank states that "A C-Minus was a step up for me. I usually live in D-Ville." Yet in book 8 Summer School? What Genius Thought That Up? He got an A+ on his oral presentation. There is also a second incident in this book whwre he states he never got A's. The continuity error being missed a second time by editors and proof readers is disappointing. However setting that aside this is another wonderful adventure for Hank and his friends at PS 87(Public School 87).

In this story Hank wants' to try out for the role of the King of Siam, in the school's adaptation of the play Anna and the King, but he has just flunked a math test and started peer tutoring. His father only allows him to try out for the play if he agrees he will get a B+ on his next math test. If he does not achieve this mark and has got a spot in the play, he will have to drop out. As we can tell from the title it sounds like he made it but how many trials does he have to overcome to make it. Follow Hank as he get's to know Heather Payne as both a peer tutor and friend, and maybe Hank can teach Heather a thing or two, read and find out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Zipzer hits back
What do you do when you discover you love something but most people do not understand it, or they think it is lame? Well if you're Hank Zipzer you try to hide it. It's the beginning of the 5th grade and Hank has joined the soccer team, but he's not very good, and does not really enjoy it. Then his grandfather takes him to a Ping-Pong Emporium, and not only does Hank like it, he can actually see some skill developing. But when he tries to feel out his friends on the subject of Ping-Pong they leave the impression it is lame, and the school bully McKelty mocks it the most. So he tries to hide his newfound love of the sport Ping-Pong.

Unfortunately he loves Ping-Pong so much he keeps skipping soccer practice to play; when his father finds out he gets a big lecture. His father lets him know he does not think Ping-pong is a real sport and he is disappointed in Hank for letting his soccer team down by not following through on his commitment.

The story comes to a head when at PS 87's Parade of Athletes, McKelty mocks a kindergarten kid about Ping-Pong and makes him cry. Little Sam Chin will try again if Hank will play with him, but to do so will be to admit his love for the sport. Can he overcome his fear of ridicule? Can he change his father's attitude about Ping-Pong? Can he rise above and help Sam? Read and find out why being a Ping-Pong wizard helps Hank with more than just developing hand-eye co-ordination.

Another excellent addition to the Hank Zipzer collection. Any child will be sure to relate to Hank's excitement of learning and succeeding at a new sport, as well as his apprehensiveness of telling his friends for fear of their reaction. Your child will be cheering for Hank all the way as you read of his finally telling his friends of his new talent, his getting to see that bully Nick McKelty put in his place, and then seeing Hank get his chance to show off his talent to his friends, teachers, and parents.Looking forward to book #10... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best in the Series
Out of the 16 books available in the Zipzer series, this is now my favourite for a few reasons. First, Hank really begins to accept his learning disability; he also chooses to seek extra help for it. Now true, there is a female interest that draws him to that option but when a young person chooses reading gym over Tae Kwon Do, you know something serious is up. Hank has his first crush and Zoe is in the reading gym also. Hank also tries to keep this change in after-school activities a secret from his dad. But best of all Hank learns how to describe his life with his learning challenges and how it feels to live and struggle with them day in and day out. In learning to admit he has a problem and really working on it, Hank learns how to communicate his struggles and feelings that have been pent up for years.

What is remarkable about this book, and the series as a whole, is the ability by the authors to capture the essence of struggling with a learning disability. I was diagnosed in grade 2 because of a very persistent teacher, but many people are now being diagnosed in college, university and even in the workforce. I know many people who were not diagnosed in school and feel the way Hank does, but they did not know why. These books, even though written for children, are excellent for anyone struggling with learning disabilities, no matter their age. For they will help them see it is not just them and in Hank will see a mirror of some of their own experiences. These books are wonderfully written and are also fun to read. I highly recommend them.

5-0 out of 5 stars too bad this is the last Hank Zipzer
My 11 yr ADHD & LD daughter will be in 6th gr 8/2010.We stumbled on Hank Zipzer in 2009, & she became an instant fan.I very much enjoy them myself when she reads aloud to me from the back seat of the car while we are riding, or when she comes to tell me a funny part of the tale she is reading to herself. The 17 bks in the series average about 150 pgs & are easy fun reading. They were well below her reading level as a 4th & 5th grader, however, she read them & loved them because of the kinship she felt w/a character with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder & learning challenges, & because of the entertainment value. The bks are funny & easy to "zip" through. She had read #s 1-7 by 12/2009 & received #s 8-11 for Christmas &/or bday 12/2009.She squeezed these into free time reading in the 1st few mths of 2010, & then received #s 12-17 as part of an end of school gift. Those last 6 bks in the series were finished in a matter of about a wk's time before the end of May!She is so disappointed that the series has ended. She has enjoyed not only the bks, but also the associated website w/fun activiites & author interviews & video. She has enjoyed learning about Henry Winkler's personal story of school troubles & learning issues & how he came to write the bks as a parent, as well as his early stardom as "The Fonz".We entered the drawing @ our local bkstore, hoping to win the honor of having him speak @ her school's middle school graduation, in conjunction w/Hank's graduation from middle school in the last bk of the series.Unfortunately we did not win. These bks would appeal to any early elementary age boy or girl with or without ADHD & LD.Read & enjoy

5-0 out of 5 stars Henry Winkler, please continue this series!!
My son with learning challenges absolutely loves Hank Zipzer. He can relateto so many of Hank's struggles. This series has been such a motivator for him. We read the first several books aloud, but now my son is actually reading them on his own. This is a huge thing for him. I hope there will be at least 17 more in the series!

5-0 out of 5 stars Greak Book Great Series
Hank Zipzer, the world's greatest underachiever, is back at it again. In this seventeenth book in the series, we again encounter Hank towards the end of a school year, and again Hank is in the position of not finishing. This time it is because he has failed to complete his community service requirement. The biggest difference between this book and earlier books in the series is that Hank starts to see something in himself, some potential for something other than failure. He realizes this with the help of Mr. Rock, the school music teacher who helps him explore this new side. Soon he is practicing monologues, improv, and characterization. He has set his goals on auditioning for the Professional School of Performing Arts. Yet, as usual, he needs to convince his father to let him try out, and if he gets it, to go. Hank is desperate to succeed as his two best friends are going to the Enhanced Science program, and he does not want to be left without them or something special himself.

These books are very well written. In the last year I have read or re-read 16 of the 17 in the series. They keep my attention, and are fun and enjoyable to read. The humour is age appropriate. As someone with dyslexia, these stories do an amazing job of capturing the experience of living with, and learning to deal with, learning disabilities. They are great reads just as books, but for young people with learning disabilities or people close to them, they will provide encouragement and support also. ... Read more

Hank Zipzer - theworld's greatest underachiever

By Winkler & Oliver

Book Review:

I have only one complaint to Henry Winkler and Lin Arnold his partner who wrote this book and that is only a small one.Henry and Lin, the cover doesn't do the book justice because at first glance it is easy to pass it by to select one with a less flamboyant cover. If you did that you would lose out because this is a story of substance, well told and very enjoyable.

There is nothing quite so disgusting as a know-it-all and a persistent one is even worse. This plot introduces Robert early to the horror of the other kids in the story and he plays a strong part.He sits next to Emily who has an iguana as a pet and which Robert knows heaps about. The lizard girl, Emily, needs to be paired off with Robert so that her brother won't be annoyed with her company thus two worries are bundled together and out of harm's way - well we think so.....

The magic 3 is as the name implies, made up of the main characters, Ashley, the treasurer of the group Robert, a magic performer or one who does magic tricks. When the twins have a party for their birthday, the Magic 3 get a gig to perform.

It doesn't run smoothly!

This is a 5 star book and will be a favourite with all of those who like kid's clubs and intrigue and adventure.

Our last adventure found Hank making it out of the fourth grade but only if he attends summer school, to strengthen his academic skills. This book begins the first day of summer school. And while Hank will still get to walk to and from school with his best friends Ashley and Frankie, they were participating in the Junior Explorer's program and Hank was stuck back in the classroom with 10 other fourth and fifth graders. While he sits in class he can watch the junior explorers prepare for a luau.

Hank desperately wants to attend the luau, but his father has set a condition - Hank must get an A on his assignment on Friday, a presentation on a person that they admire. Mr. Rock the music teacher who is leading summer school suggests that Hank does his on Albert Einstein. Papa Pete takes him to the NYC Library to get a library card and a slew of books. The interesting thing is Hank begins to have fun learning; he also reads for fun. But can he get his A and be able to go to the party? Read and find out.

My son loves the serie. And this is quite surprising, given that he comes from years of reading challenges. The fact that Hank -the main character- has learning challenges, but lives a rather exciting life in fourth grade, with his friends and family, has probably a lot to do with it. I personally like to sarcastic, realistic and hopeful undertone of the book, which is much like my son's psyche. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Frightfully Funny
In this adventure Hank finally has had enough of Nick McKelty. The school bully has gone too far. During the school Halloween Parade, Nick mocks a kid in kindergarten, and makes everybody laugh at Hank but the topper is he mocks Hank's younger sister and her friend Robert. With the help of grandfather he comes up with a plan to create a haunted house and get revenge on McKelty.

With the help of his best friends Ashley and Frankie, they set about transforming the family living room into a haunted house of horrors. They test it on two other schoolmates and McKelty arrives just before their parents close up shop. But will their plans and work really scare the school bully? You need to read this to find out.

This is a great series about a young boy with a learning disability. It really captures the experiences of someone with those struggles. My only complaint about this book is the first inconsistency in the series and it is a big one. On p.15 Hank says his books have never gone above the C's range, yet in book 7, Help! Somebody Get me out of Fourth Grade!, he achieves an A+ for his presentation. He says his grades have only ever travelled to C-ville and parts south. It is a great line but doesn't match the other books. It's a little disappointing but not enough to stop me reading the book or the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Holy Enchilada! They've done it again.
Yet another great addition to the Hank Zipzer series.Kids will love to see what happens to Hank, a 4th grade boy that has just won the chance to have the school's Japanese exchange student stay at his house. The book is hilarious, in true Hank style, from the iguana sticking to the kitchen floor with wallpaper paste to his teacher farting her way out of the room.At the same time, readers will be sympathetic for Hank when they see what he goes through as a dyslexic student. This book will keep students engaged, as well as show them a realistic story about a boy with a learning disability.I've read books in this series with my class before and this one (book 6) is just as wonderful as the others and will be added to my classroom library next year.

4-0 out of 5 stars Explosive fun
What kind of trouble can Hank Zipzer get into when his school is hosting a multi-cultural day? All kinds. In this segment of the adventures of Hank, his friends and family the Zipzers, are selected to host a visiting international student. Yoshi Morimoto and his Father are from PS87's sister school in Tokyo and are visiting schools in America. The visit coincides with PS87's multicultural day.

The problems begin when the gang, Hank, Frankie, Ashley and Yoshi try to make enchiladas and the task of reading the recipe falls on Hank. With his dyslexia he struggles with the fractions, and the enchiladas end up with a lot of zing. Once again Hank learns that telling the truth is the best way to go. A good story in a great series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent experience
This book was delivered in just the condition that had been advertised (in this case excellent condition) and the shipping was excellent.I would definitely use this seller again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but not excellent
My 4th Grade son has read most of the Hank Zipzer series and found them to be "ok" -- funny and reasonably well written, but somehow not completely engaging for him.I found some of the writing to be a little formulaic.Still and all, I would recommend you give this series a try if you're looking for something new.My boy is a little finicky, and he liked these well enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Gem from Henry!
I am an elementary teacher who just wrapped up third grade.I read the Hank Zipzer series aloud to my class this year and they all agreed this was their favorite. At one point, we were laughing so loud that a colleage stuck her head in the classroom to make sure we were okay. All of these books kept the kids interested, made them laugh, and got many of them reading them independently after I had read it to them! One of our class catch phrases this year was, in the words of Frankie, "right, and my name is Bernice."Many of my students could relate to Hank's learning challenges and felt better knowing it was "okay" to struggle!Hats off to Henry Winkler and Hank!

This is yet another good book in this great series. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The story of the man who made "Fonzie"
I was a visual presence at the onset of the television series "Happy Days" and still consider it one of the all-time best shows on television. The rapid emergence of the "Fonzie" character from a minor player to a star of the show was a cultural phenomenon. Although Winkler played an uneducated auto mechanic, he was in fact a well-educated actor, having earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from Yale University.
This book is the story of Henry Winkler, from the struggling actor living in tight quarters with limited means, repeatedly failing his math classes to his success as a major television star. He is Jewish and his parents fled Nazi Germany as the persecutions began. When he was growing up, his father's ambition was for Winkler to take over the family lumber business. One benefit that Winkler derived from that ambition was due to his father wanting him to learn the lumber business from the ground up. During summers, Winkler was put to work at the lowest level positions so that he would appreciate all aspects of the business. This helped drive Winkler to succeed as an actor and no doubt gave him some working class perspective to bring to his "Fonzie" character.
Loaded with photos and a relatively small amount of text, this book is a brief, yet reasonably thorough description of a success story. Although he came from money, Winkler worked for what he earned and succeeded through determination, a willingness to take on unusual roles and to take some chances and of course a little bit of luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Other Side of Henry Winkler
I grew up with Happy Days and The Fonz.I obtained this Warner Books for $3.95 in May 1981 when it was already 5 years old.I found the book very interesting. On the cover it states:My Story by Henry Winkler. The book covers his youth, college, theater, movies & television. He addresses his family in detail, even providing photos from his Bar Mitzvah. The book shows the human side of a 70s icon. The book allows you to see that he has a true love for his family, friends, and fans.I was honored with the pleasure of meeting Henry Winkler on several occasions in 1994...he proved the book to be 100% correct...he was and still is 'very human'.His love for his family, friends and FANS is exceptional. If you are over 40 and enjoyed watching The Fonz during the original airing of Happy Days or rumbling with Butchy Weinstein in The Lords of Flatbush; this book will be very nostalgic. If you are much younger and only know Henry Winkler from reruns or Adam Sandler's THE WATERBOY, this book will show you the real person behind the character(s) he has played.THE OTHER SIDE OF HENRY WINKLER by Henry Winkler...A must read for anyone who was born prior to 1963 and a must read for any Henry Winkler fan, regardless of age.

4-0 out of 5 stars Both sides of the fonz
As a huge Henry Winkler fan, of course i found his book to be both interesting and entertaing.I got this book from a friend of the families, since I am only 15 years old not many people are still a fonzie fan, none the less a henry winkler fan.i can say i am and if anyone else is they should read this book/autobiography by henry winkler.it is very impressive.i keep it on my shlef and no matter how valuable it is or gets i can make a bet it is staying on my shelf!

I highly recommend them. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good story (with continuity issues)
As much as I love this series, some of the inconsistencies in the story line are starting to get to me. I have documented in other reviews inconsistencies regarding Hank's statements of his best mark in school. This time it is something different. In this one the principal of PS87 is talking outside the school to Hank's grandfather about peer tutoring and how it might be good for Hank with his learning difficulties. However in book 11, The Curtain Went Up, My Pants Went Down Hank goes through peer tutoring to improve his marks so he can be in the school play. These are great books especially for children with learning disabilities. Yet these story line inconsistencies are starting to detract from the strength of individual books.

In this one Hank learns that his parents are having another baby. All he can see is how this is going to ruin his life, starting with his birthday party that very weekend. Hank makes two major decisions in this book. First he decides that looking after a pet might help him learn how to help with a baby, so his Grandfather papa Pete buys him a Mexican red-knee tarantula named Rosa. He soon finds out a tarantula can cause all kinds of difficulties especially in a pizza parlour. He also decides to throw himself a birthday party, but neither of his best friends can come because they made commitments to go with Hank's mom to look at baby carriages.

This is another fun light adventure in the Hank Zipzer series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Zipzer book
You can't beat this series. I absolutely love this book too. The way Henry and Lin deal with real issues in an entertaining way teaches kids lessons without readers even knowing it. I loved this book!
