Another Great Henry and Mudge Book!
My 1st grader just loves Henry and Mudge books. They are "chapter" books-- and not "baby" books. But, they are easy to read. (Easier than Magic Tree House, for example.) Plus, this series appeals to both boys and girls (but especially boys).

This book deals with learning to be around people who are different from you. In this case, Henry learns to deal with, and actually have fun with, a somewhat prissy cousin. I love how the book tackles the important concept of enjoying people who are different from you without introducing the disturbing idea of racial prejudice and other adult-type prejudices to young children (who are not prejudice to begin with!)

Note: you might want to purchase Henry And Mudge First Book before this book or with this book. It introduces the characters used in the rest of the series.

LOVE THIS SERIES!
I can't say enough about this series. It's amazing. I have actually bought the whole series & just put it away. Every time my daughter gets a new one she has to read it over & over again.

School Days for Mudge
This is a very fun book with wonderful pictures drawn in pen and ink and watercolor.After seeing a very obedient dog walk by his house, Henry and his mom decide it might be a good idea to take Mudge--their big, slightly wild and sloppy dog--to obedience school.Henry is worried: "He thought Mudge might drool on the teacher's foot.Or sit on a poodle by mistake. Or not even stay awake long enough to do anything."

The book is funny and teaches kids some fundamentals about training dogs.If Mudge can do it, maybe your dog can do it too!
The book is rated at "level 2--reading with help" by the publisher, and it has enough repetition and short sentences for the beginning reader. However, the humor and great picture make an interesting as well as readable book!

Mudge goes to school

We have about 9 of these books. Each is a unique story, there is no formula here. They are creative stories that deal with real life situations in a special Henry and Mudge fashion. They are warm and loving and fun.Henry loves his big dog Mudge. I am going to buy more of them.

I liked thisbook because it's about camping and I like camping.The fish had a great picture.Henry's mother was setting up the camp and the really funny part was when Mudge unpacked a ham sandwich and it looked like a bunch of leaves.His dad brought his guitar and a smile on his face because he was happy to be camping.It was funny when Henry and Mudge thought that there were bears so they were hugging each other.I thought it was a good book because in the end Mudge does something really funny but you have to read the book to find out what it is.

She is four now and she still loves them.We would reccommend these books for both boys and girls.There is aHenry and Mudge book for every occassion.Henry and Mudge and the StarryNight is perfect to prepare for a camping trip.The feeling of a campoutcomes through loud and clear and the story is delightful.

Charming books
Henry and Henry's big dog Mudge are out having fun again. They almost get into trouble for going out with out permission and playing in the puddles, but Henry's dad is a kid himself and jumps into the fun. ALL these books are charming and warm. I look forward to each new one. Mudge is not a talking dog or any of that. He is a real dog-like dog who slobbers. The love in this family is what really makes it special. The words and the illustrations just radiate love and compassion without being corny or maudlin. My 4 year old boy loves them. I highly recommend any of the series. The first book is the most touching when Mudge gets lost. Henry is able to track him down. Mudge is so grateful and never goes exploring on his own again. I found a new off shoot series of Mudge as a puppy series. Should be interesting too.

Another favorite from Henry & Mudge series
Another one of our family favorites from the series.We especially like the humor in Snow Glory and the story of the Kittens.We have nearly all the Henry & Mudge stories.This one is on our top 5 list.

ANOTHER KEEPER
These are such wonderful books about a boy named Henry and the frienship that he shares with his big 180 pound dog Mudge. Nice Illustrations and easy to understand stories. They are great books and my 9 year old nephew loved these when he was in second grade. I bought some of these for him when he was 7. Now my son Ramon who is 7 loves them too.

Great book!
My daughter loves all of the Henry & Mudge books, and this is no exception.

This is our favorite of the Henry and Mudge books we have read so far.The illustrations are great and it shows a nice spark of creativity from Cynthia Rylant.We have read it many times.The reading level is perfect at level 2.Nice story, nice illustrations, nice challenge, nice humor.Kid-approved, Parent-approved.

Not Just for Mother's Day
Henry's dad helps him cut up the pineapple into a "pineapple sofa" and then make "people" out of fruit to sit on it, all as a surprise for mom on Mother's Day. In the tradition of PLAY WITH YOUR FOOD and APPLE PIGS, kids would love making their own apple people, peach people, plum people and fruity dogs after reading this story. Even Mudge will enjoy helping kids who want to start "cooking up reading."

Great way to make reading fun
I purchased these books for my nephew.These have certainly made reading more enjoyable and easy for him.

WE LOVE HENRY AND MUDGE!!
We love the Henry and Mudge series. My 5 year old raided all the books out of my classroom and in order for me to have peace (and teach my first graders to read) I had to buy him his own set. My only complaint is that there isn't a Mudge toy. He was dying for a Mudge this Easter so I scoured and scoured and finally found a Steiff bulldog puppy (mohair so wasn't cheap, as if any Steiff is ever cheap!!!) in a lying down play position (yes I know it's a bulldog but the Steiff toy looks like puppy Mudge from the books!) that would work. He LOVES the toy and carries it everywhere.

Cynthia...please consider letting toy companies make a Mudge toy. We found our Mudgie but I'm sure others would like one too and Steiff are SOOOOOOOOOOO expensive!! ... Read more

Wonderful gift for sixth birthday

What a great book!
Wow!I picked this up by chance at the library and we read it on my daughter's first birthday (yesterday).What a special book!Both the story and the pictures capture little kids' personalities so perfectly at their various phases.The book shows a little girl's first few birthdays, starting with her birth, and emphasizes her development and the bonds between her and her parents.It's really more of a book about parents and how we love our kids than a kids' book, but my daughter liked it, too.It's a bit of a tearjerker-- keep in mind that it's an emotional time for us, since it's hard to believe that our little baby is a year old already-- but I got a little weepy and my husband got a lump in his throat while reading it.It's just a perfect book for us-- it captures our joy at our daughter's birthday and our nostalgia for the past year.Since it covers the little girl's first several birthdays, it also gives us a chance to look forward to birthdays to come.I'm so glad I happened upon it, and I'm now purchasing a copy to keep.
