Love Howard
Yes I am a Howard fan so maybe I am biased. I loved this book. Private Parts was better though.

Stern is one funny Jew!
Not nearly as hilarious as Private Parts but I still got some laughs out of this. I tend to read a lot of very serious morose stuff but I like to read a book that makes me laugh now and then. Sterns humor is very neurotic and self loathing, at times very juvenile, and very Jewish (obsession with bodily functions, sexual insecurities, childhood traumas and persecution complexs) but I have always thought he was funny. Stern is one funny Jew!

As a huge Howard Stern fan, I bought this book with my expectations set very high. All of my expectations were completely fulfilled and I would recommend this book to anyone, whether you are a Stern fan or not. It is an amazing look into an amazing and prolific man's life. It has been said that you either love or loathe Howard Stern, but it's quite possible to love and loathe him after reading this autobiography. Stern sets out to offend as many people as possible (and he succeeds admirably), but two things prevent this book, and Stern, from becoming unbearable. First, he is as candid about himself as he is about the people he attacks. He describes his tortured adolescence, his physical inadequacies, and his sexual proclivities in such breathtaking detail that it's hard not to like the guy. Classic Howard Stern
This is Howard Stern in his prime. Though Miss America is also funny, it pales in comparison to Howard's first book. I do however believe that you need to at least half-way appreciate Howard's humor. Do not buy if you are easily offended.

This Howard Stern is Dead
The book now belongs in the fiction department because Howard Stern 2010 is now a liberal Hamptons Rosie O'Donnell-Chevy Chase loving phony.

Waste of time
Worst book ever, written like a high school paper.The same thing about how as an intern he had this idea for a bit on the show (I won't ruin it, and you'll find out soon enough) that he repeats over and over and over.The person that wrote this has no business writing a book.Waste of time and money.

Poorly written..more about the author than howard
The author writes at the level of a high school freshman and the majority of the book is focused on his so-called achievements while he was an intern.

As a Howard Stern fan I was hoping for insight or anecdotes about Howard or the Show but this book offered nothing.

The author is self~absorbed and the contents of the book would have been better leftin his diary.

I bought it hoping for more insight into the stern show. It was an easy read, but there wasn't much insight into the show except for the author talking about the "Tapes Team".Overall, I am happy to have read it,but wouldn't buy it again in the future.

Do yourself a favour and forget this book
I saw this on sale at a local store for 1.99$ There were literally dozens of unsold copies. I figured, "what the heck, how can I go wrong for under 2 bucks?" After reading this piece of garbage, I realized Iwould have been happier with the money. The idea of an alphabetical bio ofStern is appealing, yet this particular incarnation is little more than ahalf-brained attempt to cash in on Stern's hard-fought popularity. Itcontained nothing a casual fan wouldn't already know. Furthermore, Lucaireseemed to go out of his way to mention Judaism whenever possible, and histone sometimes suggested an underlying anti-semitic attitude. If you are aStern fan, do yourself a favour and pick up Private Parts or Miss Americainstead. A to Z rates only an F.

Awesome Book!
What a great book.Information from a fan's perspective is much more interesting than a regular biography. I highly recommend buying this book while it is still available.

Great Read!
As a young stern fan*(26), I have only been listening to the King of All Media for the past 3 years. Over that time I have been entertained daily.

I was never able to experience the Glory ERA of Stern. This book has put me in the front row center of that ride. I was able to experience them all through the pages of Dan's book. The book touches on allot of subjects that are no longer discussed on the new Sirius Stern Show, which like a history, gave me the background I needed to understand who they were taking about when the original wackpackers were discussed. Dan's stories are humorous and his collection of pictures alone are well worth the cost of the book.

Creative and Funny
This is a very interesting view of the Howard Stern Show for any obsessed fan. Dan keeps you interested in this funny, creative and easy to read page turner. Even though you get creeped out by how "into" the show and characters that Dan is, you have to admit that he is a genius when it comes to getting to Howard. Dan is as good at writing as he is at getting to Howard. This is a must have book for any true Stern fan.

Decent book about mostly wack packers
This book was pretty good. IT IS NOT a tell all from someone close to Howard. Its a book about an obsessed fan trying to get on the show by any means necessary, from scaming Howard ( which I still remember hearing on air ) to making friends with wack packers, he tries it all. The book doesn't shed any new light on Howard and the gang but it does have alot of interesting stuff about some1990s wack packers. There is a chapter devoted to kenneth keith kallenback, one devoted to elephant boy, one devoted to Melrose Larry, and one about the old Prodigy Howard Stern chat lines. These chapters alone are well worth the 5 bucks. If Dan writes another book I hope it has alot more wack pack stories. The other stuff is good too but I like the wack pack stuff more.

Great Book Must read for Stern Fans
Great Book btw Dan, I received my copy very fast, signed and in perfect condition. I am starting chapter 3 already so far I love it. The only downside is I will be spending less time on SFN, Your Book has opened my eyes. Worth the read
This book is dated but if you are a real Howard Stern fan, it is actually kind of fun to read about his earlier days, especially the Sam Kinison, Jessica Hahn stuff and the early video releases.I thought it was well done and definitely from a fan's perspective.

Great book ... so sad seeing history repeat itself
This is an amazing insight into Artie Lange. I'm a fan of the Howard Stern Show and Artie is a big part of what I love about the show. I miss him a lot. I read this book after he left the show. I got a lot of insight into Artie and what probably happened last December.

Aside of the sad parts of the book, it is really funny at times and there are some great stories.

ARTIE!!!
This book is only for people who like Artie Lange, or even just crazy stories while being apart of show business. Excellent humility and stories to relate to. Easy to read, couldnt stop reading it get it if you like Artie at all.

Overall this is a good book, and a nice read for Artie fans.

If you are a Howard Stern fanatic you might be slightly disappointed in that there are no really crazy revelations that haven't been discussed on the show already. BUT, it's worth the money, especially since you can buy it used for around $5.

Funny.
I found Artie Lange's book to be sobering while funny at the same time. In light of the terrible things that has happened with Artie, this book takes on a whole new light. I felt the writing was a tad poor but the stories were hysterical. Here's hoping for the best with Art.

Not your usual Bio.
Ive never been a big fan of autobiography's by actors. They are always the same story (and so is this one) but I dont know, this is one great book. Ive been an Artie fan ever since I saw him on MadTV season 1. At the age of 12, I started listening to Howard Stern. I became an instant fan. The book goes through Artie's life between 1993-1998 when he really hit rock bottom with cocaine. It then skipped over to when he joined the Stern Show. Its a great book and its probably one of the only auto biographies that Ive actually enjoyed (besides George Carlin's book "On Words"). Its a great book which really surprised me. Check out the audio book as well, even though Artie only narrated the first hour of it. ... Read more

Confidence Is Being Bold Enough To Be Yourself!
America has been known the bastion where you have a right to be different if you have the confidence to stay with your beliefs in the face of societal ridicule. Pioneers end up two ways, some find prosperity by starting new paths, and some end up with arrows in their backs. After reading this book, Howard Stern is a Pioneer that prospers due to his will to be different and confident at work and in life.

It was a joy reading an unbiased book on Howard Stern. I enjoyed his radio show once in awhile but admit I have had to tune it out and off now and then too. The book gave interesting information on the salaries of his staff and inner workings of Radio and TV Stations and how programs acquire airtime.

I agree with author who never trashes Howard Stern but actually gives a good picture of him and his struggles to being a Top Radio personality. I admire Howard's sheer determination to work hard at job, support his family and talk about anything.

I really enjoyed learning how the Stations Sponsors who advertised on his show were impressed with his professionalism and interest in knowing and learning everything about their products and services they were selling. This is a true mark of an honest man living up to his job as a professional.

I was surprised to learn that Infinity did pay off his FCC fines to avoid problems with a merger later. I feel Howard has been a pioneer with the airwaves and first amendment issues to the public benefit not to anyone's detriment.

Since losing his marriage and wife as well as Jackie the Joke Man it is not the same show. But is still entertaining. I now use it as one of three stations I use walking in the morning. I find National Public Radio more enlightening, Jim Quinn for more thoughtful and Howard and crew interesting and delightful on entertainment issues of our day.

In the end, Howard learn to be confident in his own ideas, own behavior and always paid attention to his sponsors, people who helped him and mutual friends and professionals. I believe having supreme confidence in you like Howard Stern demonstrates every day. Those seeking to banish him just need to tune him out or off, but not remove him in anyway

Howard Stern : King of All Media.
It pretty much is a factual account of Howard Stern's life from his childhood days to his days in Detroit and WNBC radio. Nothing risque is really discussed. I would recommend it to someone who is looking for a viewpoint of Howard's life other than Howard. The author neither supportsor chastises Stern, but presents the facts without any bias one way or theother, and that's nice to see in journalism. It's definitely worth checkingout.

Good insights into Stern's history.
I found this book to be informative to Stern's rise to fame and fortune.Nothing really groundbreaking or unbelieveable, just the facts.A very quick, but honest look at Howard's personal life.How he keeps everyone atbay and tries to isolate himself from the world at this house, which isunderstandable.Private Parts offers more humor, but a lot of the samestuff, of course.

Here's an honest review
There's something highly suspicious about all the one-star reviews on this book. Sounds like somebody is out to promote their competing book if you ask me. Some of the "reviews" contain outright fibs: e.g., the entry on NBC's Monitor Show states very clearly it was a radio show that ran from 1955 to 1974, not a "TV show" as the reviewer alleges. I used to listen to radio as a kid, starting in the late 1940s. I looked up all my old favorites, and found the entries to be accurate and informative. The huge number of entries are necessarily short, but this book brought back memories! It's good place to start in getting into the history of old radio. Also contains 120 period photos.

Worst excuse for a "reference" book I've ever come across
Five years later, and nothing's changed - this book is still an embarrassment and Facts on File will never own up to it.

I need not cite any other example than this one:The entry on the pioneering program "Amos 'n' Andy" runs for several pages - and through the entire piece, Lackmann confuses Charles Correll, who played Andy, with Freeman Gosden, who played Amos, persistently having it the other way round.If he cannot even get this elemental fact about the show straight, there is no reason to pay attention to any other assertion he might make.It's inexcusable.

As others note, errors like this may be found on every single page.What a waste of paper.

Readers interested in old-time radio are directed to the very excellent "On the Air:the Encyclopedia of Old-Time Radio," by John Dunning.

Sloppy, Sloppy Research
The book is published by Facts on File.Apparently having facts on file is not a substitute for knowledge of the subject.In just one sitting I discovered... The Lone Ranger was produced in Pittsburgh (No, Detroit). NBC Monitor was a TV show (No, radio). Paul Harvey retired in the mid 80's (I heard him yesterday). And the errors just keep on comin.' Buy Tune in Yesterday, instead.

Mr. Lachmann, in his comments on our 'amateur reviews,' says that its easier for us to criticize his work than produce one of our own, and in that manner dismisses our critiques.Yes, writing is definitely hard work, completing a project even harder.Congrats to Mr. Lachmann for that.BUT,we are not saying that the book is poorly written - i.e., something that issubjective.We are saying that the book is filled with factual errors! Mr. Lachmann should rather embrace our comments so that he can fix theseerrors in a new edition, rather than not even address the issue.As forthe 'professional' people who gave it such good reviews, it can only bethat they didn't do much more than skim over it.If we 'amateurs' saw allthese errors, think what the pros would have seen had they actuallyconcentrated on it!

What's amazing is that author Howard Stern is clearly a master of each genre. All of the characters are memorable, especially the title character Thomas, who is one of the most compelling creations I've read in recent fiction. Stern takes you deep inside this fascinating, maniacal character's head and you won't be able to put the book down until you see just what he is ultimately capable of. This is a completely fresh take on the legal thriller. Stern immediately proves he's worthy of comparisons to Grisham and Turow. Highly recommended.

Exquisitely Written Shocker

Bizarre Hidden Gem
This book is a pet lover's delight, if you are not politically correct or easily offended. The slim volume contains cute and cuddly anecdotes about how pets got their names (a cat jumps on the TV set only when the 1990s show Blossom is on, hence it is cleverly called Blossom). And of course there are the titular creatures on the cover, named for their putative resemblance to larger than life radio personages.

What separates this from a traditional pet names book is that the author (with a silly name himself, Francis Pfaff) chimes in at the end of each personal story to insult the contributor! And he insults these "pet parents" with all the campy, sniping venom of a bitter old gay dude. No homophobe I, but it is pretty clear that the acerbic Mr. Pfaff is not fond of the ladies. In fairness, he doesn't seem fond of anyone.
