Excerpt: Nicholas Ridley (c. 150016 October 1555) was an English Bishop of London. Ridley was burned at the stake, as one of the Oxford Martyrs, during the Marian Persecutions, for his teachings and his support of Lady Jane Grey. Ridley is remembered with a commemoration in the Calendar of saints in some parts of the Anglican Communion on 16 October. Ridley came from a prominent family in Tynedale, Northumberland, and was born c.1500. He was the second son of Christopher Ridley. The boy was educated at the Royal Grammar School, Newcastle and the University of Cambridge, where he received his Master's degree in 1525. Soon afterward he was ordained as a priest and went to the Sorbonne, in Paris, for further education. Meet the Master
H.R. Giger studied architecture before he decided he wanted to be a full time artist. But his backround helped him in his art as you will see. Everything he draws, paint or build is perfect. And his airbrush technique is so unique, he should make a DVD on how he does it! In this book you can read how he got his ideas for movies like Poltergeist, Alien and Species. And also other foreign and unrealized movies. (I think his Dune would have brought exciting nightmares!)

SHEPPERTON STUDIOS-STYLE OVER SUBSTANCE!
This visual celebration of the great British Shepperton movie studio,contains some wonderful stills, posters and "behind the scenes" photosof it's celluliod history -but little else! Some studio history is mentioned, but despite its 384 pages it all looks like it has been put together in a condensed easy-to-read presskit style. Now that the once independent studio is part of the Pinewood Studios group, its easy to see why. You can just picture new producers and tenants to the lot, being given a copy along with their rental contract and assigned parking spaces.

Selecting the great films of any studio is largely subjective, but in Shepperton's case the choice should have been expanded to cover the great production sets that highlight the studio itself.THE GUNS OF NAVARONE with its mighty cave set housing the huge guns themselves.OLIVER's numerous interior and exterior sets of old London, RAGTIMES New York street set and so on. Where are the photos of the soundstages and backlot?Shepperton richly deserves to be seen in a better light. ... Read more
