Excelling with Exploring Excel 2000

Good Read
This was a good read.It was the textbook for the Tactical Medic course I was in.Didn't really get a chance to read it at the course, but since then have gotten into finishing it.

Save your money
I have prior experience with "Tactical Medicine" through my service within the military, and as a Swat Team medic and I would have to say that there's nothing "Tactical" about this book whatsoever other than the picture on the cover-Save your money! It wasn't worth the hard earned money that I spent on it, Don't make the same mistake that I made and by this "Tactical" book!

I'd Give It Zero Stars If I Could
As a operational medical provider and later physician, having served in combat, civilian TEMS, and international disaster and remote medicine for 25 years, I can say without hesitation that this 'text' is a useless rehash of standard CONUS urban EMS and outdated and abandoned military medicine concepts. It reflects none of the critical lessons learned since Gulf 1, nor our changing understanding of how people die, and live, in operational and resource limited settings.

Many of the facts are simply wrong, wrong when the text was written, and even more so today.

The suggested solutions show no evidence that the authors have any real appreciation for the second by second difficulties, change in priorities, and realities of limited resources that actually characterize 'military and operational out-of-hospital medicine.'

If you think the topic is wholly encompassed by helicopters and ambulances at your beck and call, care under white lights, and someone else to do your carrying and grunt work, this book is for you.

If you are looking for solutions to managing an officer with a heart attack while pinned down behind a barricade for 6 hours with the resources you have on your tac vest, managing a pelvic GSW with a field transfusion under NVG's, or coordinating the evac of a trooper down a mountain... in other words, real operational medicine rather than sanitized urban CONUS EMS medicine in BDU's... look elsewhere.

uneven quality
tho re-issued in 1999 (with corrections), this book is not very well edited. For example, the index is often off by a couple of pages, figures are miss-captioned, & I'd love to be there when the unsuspecting reader applies eucalyptus oil instead of eugenol to your toothache. No doubt a fine text in a classroom situation with a good instructor, but on its own merits, leaves much to be desired. A bit out-of-scope for entry-level EMS personnel wishing to 'expand their knowledge', but the chapter on ambulatory care, for example, is hoplessly 'in-scope' compared to books like 'ditch medicine', 'special forces medical handbook', 'barefoot doctor's manual' or 'where there is no doctor'. And $... ???? Textbook price reminds me of college.

Tactical Operational Medicine
Dr. De Lorenzo and Mr. Porter have written a very readable product on operational medicine.This is an area of medical practice that begs for more documentation, and this text is a good start.Although the information contained in the text leans heavily to the military operational side, there is a great deal of information useful to civilian Tactical services.Some of the opinions are a little controversial, but the authors take a stand and attempt to justify their opinions.Topic areas such as laser and microwave injuries are not available in other sources.The approach taken by these authors is very practical and useful from a clinical point of view.This book is a valuable addition to any emergency physician or paramedics library.I hope to see further editions with improvements. ... A Powerful Gem - Will Change How You Write Forever
You know, I was worried at first. I picked up this book, knowing the time it was written and what the language is generally like. For example, I have trouble reading some other classics (like, everything written by David Ogilvy). so I was concerned this would be some "stuffy" turn of the century English book.

I was DEAD wrong.

Collier's skill at writing shines through. Not only does he verbally teach you to write... but in his own writing methodology he exemplifies it.

In layman's terms: he practices what he preaches.

I really enjoyed this book. Collier has great stories and very powerful ads. He doesn't just say, "This is a good idea, try it." He takes you by the hand, shows you what was done, how it was done, why it was done, and how to do it again.

Incredible book. Highlighted, dog eared, and to be read again and again for days to come.

By the way, this book is much bigger than I expected. It's a heavy, information stuffed masterpiece.

Playing devil's advocate...
There are a couple of master copywriters among reviewers. They sold me the idea I should get this book. It's not their fault, even Gene Schwarts calls it "a gold mine". However, I'm not so sure it is that great.

I have been reading, day after day, this book. Some things are good, others not so good.

The first chapters are the "theory" chapters. They are the good part of the book. Not mind blowing, but really good. They contribute to your understanding of copywriting. Basically, understand your prospect, appeal to his emotions, know your product in and out, write an original sales letter. Proof, proof, proof, you need proof to back up what you are saying. Words, use the right words, powerful words, exciting words, big words, nice words, polite words... That's it.Well, there is some more but you'll have to buy to see it yourself.

The rest of the book is a compendium of what Collier wrote throughout his career. Here is the problem. I read a sales letter... so far, so good... Next sales letter... almost the same, only a bit different strategy... Next sales letter, same style, same strategy, different product.

I'm bored.

I try again. The same.

I'm more bored.

Change, variety, please, sth different. The book does offer different sales letters for different situations, still it was some what repetitive.

This book is good, but not as close as other better ones.

Really sorry to be the negative voice around here. Would I buy it again. MMM... ok yes. But not expecting too much... only from the first chapters, the rest of the book misses the point of teaching by example. Copywriting should be exciting! Super exciting! Super extra exciting! The sales letter in the book are not so, not any more. Ok, some are... but I was expecting more because of the couple of "master" copywriters who sold me the idea of a bible for copywriting, which it is not.

Smile! It's just a review, which I hope was helpfull to you.

This book although written years ago still has relevence today.I do wish it had more examples of copy that was outside the book sales indrustry.Collier was way ahead of his time.

Top-notch introduction to op amps and applications.
It is a shame that this book is out-of-print.I have used it several times as the text in my op amps course.Students often remark about how well-written it is.Very nice labs are included at the the end of eachchapter.It is especially refreshing to find that the labs really work! The homework problems are plentiful, clearly written and cover each chaptercompletely.I hope that the authors and the publisher will consider comingout with a new edition of this fine text! ... Algebra Programmed
I had always wanted to go to college, but my high school math skills were sufficient for me to get into college.My community college offered this series of programmed books as a remedial math lab to enable those deficient in math skills to become able to complete college math in the future. This was absolutely the only time I ever understood Algebra.It is self-paced and everything is clearly laid out with directions on where to find the answers. Worthless........for some
Stupid book, stupid class, waste of time.Unless you are totally, 100% computer illiterate.I have a friend from Arkansas named Shawn, who didn't even know how to turn the computer on (literally), who used this book and is now typing his own personal letterheads and using all the Microsoft programs taught in this book to their full extent.He woulda given it 5 stars if maybe I found some use for it other than starting fires, making patties, disposable coasters, etc.

I propped up a table in the cafe at my college with it...that was about the most use I ever got out of it...

Well laid out, high physical quality, effectively written text good for teaching pure beginners how to use this tool [and even v.1 has some tips for those who are experienced] with lots of useful exercises.What limitsthis to 3 stars is the fact that OUTLOOK 2000 is not covered in any waywhatsoever, despite the fact that it is an essential part of OFFICE whichis heavily used in many organizations.The index also proved lacking whenI wanted to find out about 'speaker's notes' in POWER POINT.
