I believe that California Suite is one of the funniest plays that i have ever read. I am fairly new to Neil Simon, but I have enjoyed everything that I have read from him so far.

A Neil Simon comedy classic!
Comparable to his later success, Biloxi Blues and Lost in Yonkers, California Suite is a set of four playlets set in one hotel room.They feature A- A divorced couple meeting to decide on their daughter'sfuture

B- A man with a hooker in his room tries to hide her when his wifecomes

C- A neurotic actress and her homosexual husband come to town forthe Oscars

D- Four friends really get to know what it's liked going onvacation together.

The first and third are the best, because theycombine wit and emotion.The other two are hilarious, but somewhat hollow. Overall, it is worth reading, and certainly ranks as one of Simons best inthe past 25 years. ... Read more

Only the Russians could have called Chekhov's last play a comedy. This L.A. Theatre Works production leans more heavily on the dramatic, even tragic, elements of the play. Marsh Mason is particularly strong as Ranevskaya, who has returned to her beloved estate several years after her young son drowned there, only to watch it slip from the family's hands. Hector Elizondo, as Ranevskaya's brother, is an excellent supporting character, as is Michael Cristofer as the wealthy neighbor who ultimately buys the property. The lone clunker in the cast is Jennifer Tilley, who is entirely inappropriate for her small role. ... Read more
