Product Description
Every morning for the thirteen years he was on Law & Order, Jerry Orbach wrote his wife a short love poem and placed it next to her coffee cup before he left for work.

Over the years Jerry wrote hundreds of notes -- all of which Elaine cherished and preserved. Now dozens of Jerry's most meaningful poems to Elaine, along with stories from his amazing career and their enduring romance, tell the tale of their life together. With essays from some of Jerry's dearest friends and a foreword by Sam Waterston, Elaine created a collection of funny and movingpoetry and a tribute to a wonderful marriage and a dearly loved man.

The world remembers Jerry as a legendary Broadway actor, Baby's father in Dirty Dancing, and of course the wisecracking detective Lenny Briscoe on Law & Order. But to his widow, Elaine, Jerry was a poet...and the love of her life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Remember How I Love You - Love Letters by Jerry Orbach
I always loved Jerry Orbach as an actor and besides watching him in every episode of "Law and Order", I also got to see him on Broadway in 42nd Street. His wife wrote this book, but passed away suddenly just before it was published so she is not around to promote the book. It's a quick read about Jerry and Elaine's life together filled with lots of letters he wrote to her daily.I recommend the book for any fans of Jerry Orbach.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book
This is a book that promises small, but delivers huge. It chronicles a love a husband (Jerry Orbach) has for his wife, Elaine. In "Remember How I Love You," it shows how a man does not take love for granted. Sometimes he will write with fluency. Other times he encounters the writer's block. Regardless, he will pen down his feelings to let Elaine journeys with him. Indeed, a marriage that depends only on a rare few gigantic showers of love, is no match for a marriage that flows with constant trickles of adoration and love. Little things add up.

Jerry's love letters is a way how a man shares his life journey with the most important person in his life, his wife. His love notes is an example of how ordinary words, written with an extraordinary heart makes all the difference. I warmly recommend this book for all couples. Read it. Practice it with your spouse regularly. You may save not only the money for marriage counseling, but your marriage as well. Below is one of my favourites:

"You said, 'Don't write a poem today.'
But I am writing anyway.
There's not enough time in the day
to say the things I want to say.
A million poems my whole life through,
could never tell my love for you!

XXX's
Jer" (p95)

The book closes with a touching poem (p178). This time it is from Elaine, after Jerry died. Prepare for tears. Really good ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just Delightful
What a wonderful example for all those whose relationships last no longer than their shampoos.Sometimes a little gesture, each day, creates a love that lasts a lifetime. It did here, and we are treated to a silly and lyrical reality of just such an affair, and the real costs of television celebrity.(You really do get to wake up in the city that never sleeps.) A real story of staying the course, but never mawkish or too sentimental.A great valentine's gift, I would think.I have bias in this, however:Jerry Orbach was one of my favorite actors.

4-0 out of 5 stars very sweet and special find

Product Description
Today the late actor Jerry Orbach (1935-2004) is best remembered as the world-weary New York City Detective Lennie Briscoe from the Emmy Award-winning NBC television series Law and Order. But that work only accounts for 12 years of a 50-year career that spanned stage, screen, and television. From the moment he landed the role of the Street Singer in the 1955 off-Broadway revival of The Threepenny Opera, he distinguished himself as a major performer in popular musicals and plays, including The Fantasticks, Carnival, Scuba Duba, Promises, Promises, 6 RMS RIV VU, Chicago, and 42nd Street.Jerry Orbach also appeared in over 40 films, with Crimes and Misdemeanors; Prince of the City; Dirty Dancing; and the voice of the candlestick, Lumiere, in Disney's Beauty and the Beast topping the list. From the '60s through the '90s, he was a guest or featured actor on major TV hits like The Defenders; Love American Style; Murder, She Wrote; The Golden Girls; and Frasier. Jerry Orbach, Prince of the City is the story of this versatile performer - his triumphs and tragedies public and private. Most of all, it is a study of a gifted actor's craft as told through the observations, insights, and reminiscences of those who knew him best. ... Read more

Excerpt: Jack Benny (February 14, 1894 December 26, 1974), born Benjamin Kubelsky, was an American comedian, vaudevillian, and actor for radio, television, and film. Widely recognized as one of the leading American entertainers of the 20th century, Benny played the role of the comic penny-pinching miser, insisting on remaining 39 years old on stage despite his actual age, and often playing the violin badly. Benny was known for his comic timing and his ability to get laughs with either a pregnant pause or a single expression, such as his signature exasperated "Well!" His radio and television programs, tremendously popular from the 1930s to the 1960s were a foundational influence on the situation comedy genre. Dean Martin, on the celebrity roast for Johnny Carson in November 1973, introduced Benny as "the Satchel Paige of the world of comedy." Jack was born February 14, 1894, in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in neighboring Waukegan, Illinois. He was the son of Meyer Kubelsky and Emma Sachs Kubelsky. Meyer was a Jewish saloon owner, later to become a haberdasher, who had emigrated to America from Poland. Emma had emigrated from Lithuania. Benny bega...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=82587 ... Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Dirty Dancing is a 1987 romantic film made in the United States. Written by Eleanor Bergstein and directed by Emile Ardolino, the film features Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, Cynthia Rhodes, and Jerry Orbach. The story is a coming of age drama that documents a young débutante's rebellion against her father by starting a relationship with a dance instructor during a family summer vacation. Almost a third of the film involves dancing scenes choreographed by Kenny Ortega (later famous for High School Musical), and the finale has been described as "the most goosebump-inducing dance scene in movie history".Originally a low-budget film by a new studio and with no major stars, Dirty Dancing became a massive box office hit. As of 2007, it has earned $213.9 million worldwide. It was the first film to sell more than a million copies on home video, and the Dirty Dancing soundtrack generated two multi-platinum albums and multiple singles, including "(I've Had) The Time of My Life", which won both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Song, and a Grammy Award for best duet. The film spawned a 2004 prequel, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, as well as a stage version which has had sellout performances in Australia, Europe, and North America, with plans to open on Broadway. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Broadway Musicals
Broadway Musicals may be the best book buy I have ever made. The price was unbelievably reasonable, and the book is fabulous. For anyone who loves Broadway musicals, I wholeheartedly recommend this coffee table book. Beautiful photos abound, and the text is very interesting.

3-0 out of 5 stars In depth in some areas
Great for perusals and a cursory overview. There were some notable exceptions to the 'greatests' that were highlighted... "Godspell"???It was still useful and entertaining.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great looking book, terrible writing
I am astonished at the almost unanimous praise this book has received -- no ratings under 3 stars!!!The book looks good -- glossy colour pics, lists of songs and production info, gossipy sidebars on personalities. But has anyone actual READ the book??Utterly devoid of insight, lacking in any style, full of banal observations and empty adjectives (everything is "remarkable", "impressive" and so on, but what do those words actually mean?) and cheesy, gushing statements of empty-headed fandom.

Bloom writes like a teenager keeping a diary:

The movie of "Finian's Rainbow":"In the manner of many film musicals that were lambasted upon their first release, it isn't bad in retrospect -- well, not SO bad." That's it -- end of discussion or analysis of the film.(The "upon" in this sentence gives away Bloom's tin ear for writing. It is pretentious, trying to sound more formal and elegant than merely saying "on".)

On "Little Me" and comedy in musicals:"It's not easy to write a truly funny musical, for the libretto is by necessity an outline linking the songs together, leaving little room for funny business.... Lyrics, too, are extremely difficult to make funny -- especially SMART and funny."None of this means anything. And why is the libretto "by necessity" merely an outline?Of course the libretto strings the songs together, but why is it necessarily merely an outline??? The use of "for" in "for the libretto" is another example of Bloom's faux elegant style. And Bloom doesn't go on to actually analyze any further why comedy is hard to write -- or why it is harder to write in a musical, or a song, than in straight drama. Is it really harder to write in musicals and songs?Or is it just difficult to write comedy? Again, his writing is just an empty statement, blandly expressed, that goes nowhere.

On Oklahoma!:"... it told the story of honest, three-dimensional characters who had dreams as well as disappointments. The Rodgers and Hammerstein formula worked then and it works today, because, while time and circumstances change, basic human values and dreams are eternal."Ugh!!!Everything about this sentence is ugly and banal.

On Cabaret:"Take the dark, ominous world of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, mix it lightly with the sequined, showbiz celebratory world of John Kander of Fred Ebb, and add a soupcon of Christopher Isherwood's dispassionate reportage.Bake well and serve to enthusiastic audiences around the world."

Addendum to this recipe:If you add lots of cheese to the writing, you have baked a terrible book about Broadway.

Bloom's book is full of this tacky kind of non-writing, utterly lacking in original insight or analysis, full of cliches in its writing and observations, rife with empty enthusiasm and fake elegance. If this appeals to you, by all means buy the book.

I enjoy all the colour photos in the book, but for content, it gets one star.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Coffee Table Book
If you like musical theater as do I, you will love to thumb through this fine book.I am an "old guy" and this book brings back so many memories but it still offers coverage of recent productions by Andrew Lloyd Webber for example. It is a heavy book with excellent printing and paper quality. It highlights the key cast members and the most memorable music from the productions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Happy with purchase

When psychiatric nurse Sharon Blautner inadvertently helps patient Bill Kaiser escape from New York's Bellevue Hospital, she is torn between stopping him and allowing the modern day Robin Hood to continue his twisted efforts on behalf of the city's powerless. Simultaneous.Amazon.com Review
The odd couple at the heart of this extremely impressive firstthriller--a psychotic genius and a sensitive, scarred psychiatricnurse--have already led to the inevitable comparisons to The Silence of theLambs. But Bill Kaiser is no Hannibal Lector: he uses hisformidable physical and mental skills for a good cause, thepreservation of historic buildings. And Sharon Blautner doesn't go upagainst Kaiser to further her career, like FBI agent Clarice Starling:she's already lost her job because of an act of kindness toward Bill, and seems to genuinely care for him. What's also amazing is how muchauthor Matthew Hall knows and communicates about everything from howto fake mental illness to the way painters create their works. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable read
Nice thriller, interesting twists, original ideas (as far as I know), engaging context, believable characters. What more can be said of a book in this category?

5-0 out of 5 stars pure awe
this story really dove into the depth of every character... making them realistic with indepth backgrounds. The characteristics are realistic along with the many detailed chemicals in the story. As the cover says it definately is a thriller... and though the relationship between the two main characters was ment to be similar to that of haniball and clarice it was extremely different.A good different... and amazing different. You certainly are hooked to the story the whole way through.I would suggest this story to anyone who likes thrillers mysteries... the word usage and style is truely beautiful and you can tell how much time was spent on retrieving details and accuracy...

5-0 out of 5 stars Very awsome!
This was one of the first "real" books that I read.It is a little bit confusing at first, because there are so many characters, but after the first couple of chapters you won't want to put it down!I hopethat if you are doubting about buying this book, STOP!This is an awsomebook I recommend it to anyone that likes to read!I hope that you enjoy itas much as I did!

5-0 out of 5 stars Vigilantism at its best
I think if Bill resembles any literary character it is Hamlet (or perhaps the less well known Stainless Steel Rat).He is dark and tormented, and he has issues with his mother. But what makes this book exceptional is Bill'scommitted (no pun intended) liberalism. He us a crazy man fighting thegood fight. That, coupled with his undeniable brilliance, is whatultimately makes him so likeable. And you may finish the book, like I did, with an urge to engage in some creative social justice yourself.I've readthis book three times, and I could read it again tomorrow.Buy it now, youwon't be able to stop reading once you start. And, if you can afford it,buy the hardcover. The jacket and cover design are really snazzy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Book!!!
