I recieved the new book cold and little wet
I am upset when I bought this new book, Emergency Care: Update (Emergency Care) from Amazon.
UPS shipped my order and the book was wet and damage when I opened from the box.
I believed that the seller which is Amazon did not secure the book with plastic. On the time I ordered the book the weather was rainy.

Decent text, comprehensive information.
Not a bad text. Includes pertinent info and is organized pretty well. My instructor (with 20 years of experience as a medic and firefighter) prefers another author, however.

Life Saver for the Life Saver!
I obtained a copy of the "Essentials of Emergency Care:Refresher for EMT-B" to review for the state written test in order to become an instructor.It had been 20 years since I last took this test.To say that things have changed would be an understatement!
This book was a life saver!I sat down with it, reviewed the objectives, read the material and passed the state test with a 90%.This book made all the difference in the world.

Excellent resource
For anyone who used the AAOS's "Orange Book" for their EMT-Bcourse, this book is an excellent choice because it gives you a differentperspective on the same things. Of course, the Brady series is solidreference material anyway.

Very Helpful
This workbook has helped me out in many ways. I have always had an issue with taking tests and the workbook helped me improve better. It helps give you an understanding on what to expect when taking a test/exam. I hope that it gives people the help that i also received from this workbook.

This book is very helpful in studying the book that it goes with. If you honestly complete this workbook then there is no reason why you should get less than a 90 on any EMT-B exam.

Just Study and you'll be fine without it....
This workbook is precisely what you think it is, a multiple choice review of the chapters in the book. I would imagine it would be very helpful for the students that do not read the book. I did not find it very helpful. I used it for about the first ten chapters and then realized it was a waste of time. Read the book and you will be fine without it.

Actor, Michael O'Keefe has written a masterpiece. His writing skills are exemplary as a poet. The speaker of the poems allow the reader to visualize and interpret the meaning of the poetry making it meaningful and giving one a new perspective on life and various other subjects with emotional impact. Great Book
Our teacher Ordered this book for our EMT class(with the work book). Accurate & valuable info. Comes with a CD-rom with learning games and quizes for every chapter. Also a website that comes with it including health simulators, more tests and quizes. Audio glossary and video sims. If your about to take an EMT course or are already in it you should buy this product. Passed MA- State practical and written w/ no problems 1st time.The work book is also a great buy. You cant put a price on education so this price seems perfect.

Good Book but Paperback is not Good
I can't believe they made a huge thick expensive book that is only made by Paperback. They should create a Hard Cover because I always carry and drop my Emergency Care during training and Emergency that can ruin the book easily. In regards to the CD, the CD has lack of information. I am expecting that the CD composed of all chapters that is detailed so that students can learn in reading and listening from the CD.

Hardback is Hard
After getting into class, most of my fellow students had paperback books.They were in hardback book envy and didn't know it came in hardback!Very informative book that I will keep in my library for a long time.Book was the required text book for my EMT Basic class.Should come in handy for my Paramedic class.

Great book
This book is great. Its easy to read and understand. This book doesn't use big medical terms but plain english.

Overly Simplified and Extremely Repetitive
The chapters are extremely lengthy for the material that they are trying to explain. I feel that this book is made so that it can be understood by middle school children but if you're of reasonable/average intelligence, you will find this book to be unnecessarily detailed/lengthy. Each chapter can probably be summed up in 2-3 pages at the most and you will know everything that you need to know from that.

The book also doesn't come with any sufficient practice multiple choice problems and they "recommend" you get the workbook when those problems should have been included in the first place.

Btw, a new edition is coming out in a few months, so don't buy this book because the value will literally drop by a lot overnight.

Also, a lot of the chapters are just ridiculously simple and don't require 30 pages to explain. If I had to say what chapters were probably the most useful it would be the chapter on how to open the airway and what types of breathing masks to give to a patient, the one on CPR, the one on diabetes, and the one on Obstetrics/Gynecology but even then the book goes way too much into detail.

Nevertheless, you have to end up reading all the garbage if you want to do well in the class, because you'll probably end up getting multiple choice exams that ask VERY SPECIFIC questions that are only from the textbook...

Oh yeah, for some decent problems for this book, go to [...], and type in Emergency Care 11th and one of the top results will be the website for that book. On that website you can do multiple choice exams and true/false problems. My advice when doing those problems is (if time is short) is to just put down any random answer on the bubbles, and click submit, and then it will show you all the correct answers for them, otherwise you'll end up spending more time on those problems when you could be doing other things.

Also, if you're planning on becoming a paramedic, please don't. The pay is terrible. They make close to minimum wage (25,000-30,000/year), so until the government/hospitals start to realize that EMTs/Paramedics/etc. are much more important, go into a field that pays a lot more (i.e. nursing, respiratory therapy which is like the same thing as paramedic school except you do everything in a hospital setting and get paid at least $45,000/year).

This is odd
Have you noticed the other five reviews here haven't reviewed this book at all, but just talk about McCammon retiring?This has got to be the strangest set of reviews.

Swan Song
I just discovered McCammon a few weeks ago when I picked up a copy of Swan Song at a thrift store.He is an amazing story teller.I now have a new favorite author and am trying to locate a copy of all of his works.I understand he no longer writes - our loss.

I read on a website about a year ago that Robert was coming out with a new novel... they even had a picture of the cover art.I don't remember the naem, but Robert said it was going to be areal departure from his work with more supernatural leanings.Hope itcomes out soon!
